Estevot lay with his daughter watching over him.

He knew he didn't have long now. Minutes at best.

He had been visited by as many friends and family as could come.

He was ready.

He closed his eyes, and when he opened them next, he stood in a white space.

It was quiet, eerily so. When he looked down to see himself, he saw he was in the form of himself at his prime.

It was strange. The sensations he felt were no longer of a corporeal nature. He had left the mortal coil. He was dead.

It was a strange mix of bittersweet acceptance and relief from the pains of living that led Estevot to begin crying. After many years of service and suffering, of persecution and protest, he was finally free.

Yet he was alone.

It was crushing. No one was waiting for him here. He didn't even know if it was the Seven Skies.

Estevot let out a wail of crushing grief, echoing from his very soul. He didn't want to be alone. He had prayed to GOD not to let him be alone.

Had Estevot been punished? Was this punishment for his failures in life? Was he still unworthy, useless, a pathetic excuse for a servant of the Lord?

Estevot did not know how long he stayed there, crying, as the white space shifted into the great coil of a dark dragon, choking Estevot slowly, as Estevot clawed at it, screaming in terror, for somebody, ANYBODY, to hear him, to come for him, to be there for him.

It was then that Estevot realized something. He didn't need to be constrained. There was no white space. There was no dragon. Only him. Only Estevot Heymor.

It was always just him. IS him. Only him.

Estevot calmed himself and his mind, and finally just let go.

It was wonderful beyond description.

He felt those who had gone before him, his friends, his family...his loves. He could only beam widely as he felt the warm embrace of the Skies, the ultimate proof.
The darkness that had hounded him in life was powerful, patient, and it always won. But it had one weakness. Only a single candle could hold it back.
Love is more than a candle. Love can ignite the stars.

"Hello again, everyone. I made it."

A letter made its way to his remaining living family, and one was spread around the Empire of Man.

@Joanoah1k @Frisket @Bethinwonderland @PrinceJose270 @__Stal27 @Lirinya @ketof

Spoiler

"If you are reading these letters, then I am dead. This shall be my last will and testament. Throughout my life, I have never been more blessed than I was when I was with all of you who are receiving this letter. I love you all and am so grateful to have been a part of your lives, no matter how brief it was. I hope I made you all as happy as you made me."

"My wish is for my remains to be cremated in a funerary pyre or buried in Vortice."

"To my beloved daughters, I leave you all my mina to be split equally among the 3 of you, as well as leave to you my possessions to be split among you as you desire or donated as you see fit."

"To Lotharia, I gift the nation my remaining weapons and armor to be used for the defense of the nation from darkspawn and aggressors."

"To Lenora and Gusiam, thank you for being a part of my family, my life. I owe so much to you and that in the short time I've known you in your lives, you shaped so much of who I became. I hope my brief part in your lives will hold good memories despite all the bad surrounding it."

"To my beloved sister Vivien, please do not the sorrow of my passing engulf you. I am so grateful to have had you as a sister, and hope that no matter how much you change and grow over the course of your life you'll remember me fondly. I wish I could be there for your wedding, but I wish you and your partner a very happy union, and will be watching you both from the skies. Always."

"I wish for all of you to know happiness, and even if we do not yet meet again in the skies, then I hope we find a way to see each other regardless."

"I love you all. Take care of each other. Trust one another. Farewell."

Spoiler

"My name is Estevot Heymor."

"I am honored if you are reading this and honored to have these words be heard. It's strange...I can almost see it. I remember the first time I saw a funerary pyre. I remember the smell of the ashes, the tears, the history behind that person. How the dead lift us up with their stories, and their truths. And now I am dead, and I yearn to lift you. Not to shine or even be remembered, but because I want you to go on. I want Canonism, humanity, descendant kind, all of it to continue. In my waning hours, that's what comforts me most. But I fear for you. We've been sleeping. We've had each other and our wars, our losses. We had each other and we ignored them. We kept killing and stealing and we continued to ignore them. We watched an Empire form, the latest in a long line of inevitable failures, and the moment that we were assured that things would be better, that it was over, we forgot about them. Because we had each other. But we were sleeping. I've been sleeping.  And I've been turning away from the truth I wanted not to face. There is a wound that won't heal at the center of the continent. There is a darkness reaching like rust, into everything around us. We let it grow and now it's here. It's here and it's NOT visiting anymore. It wants to stay. The darkspawn and Iblees and the complacent tyranny of the Empire are diseases that thrive in darkness. They are never more alive than when we sleep. It's easy for the dead to tell you to fight. And maybe it's true, maybe fighting's useless. Perhaps it's too late. But I'll tell you this...if I could do it all again, I'd wake up early...and be fighting...THESE BASTARDS...from the start!"

"WAKE UP AND FIGHT, AEVOS!"

Spoiler

OOC: Thank you guys for everything. I'll never forget this journey with Estevot, and I'm glad to have shared it with you. Time for a new one!

Warrin Kolbeck watched as Estevot appeared to him, it was almost dream-like in what was left of his consciousness. Wherever he was, "It's about time you joined us, Estevot," he called out to him, not sure if the man was real or not. Even if he wasn't, Warrin was glad to see a familiar face in this endless void, recalling his fragmented memories of when he was alive

Estevot wasn't sure why he saw Warrin when he was getting strangled by his dragon, but he managed to choke out some words to him.

"Good to see you, old friend."

As Jadelynn watched her husband appear she gave a brief smile and wave though went off into the distance wanting nothing to do with him anymore, seems she still held some grudge against him.

Meanwhile Raenisa blinked and waved "Hey Mister Estevot welcome!"

Estevot was at peace with himself, so he just waved back and let her go. He smiled and waved to Raenisa, happy to see her again.

It was another day in the spires, Another morning like any other. The wind blew eastward- and Vivien had returned from her first travel outside the spires, she had brought souvenirs and story’s to tell. Unaware of another’s story soon crossing hers.

It was when she met her mother Aerith, she had seen a young man before her smiling and laughing. Almost odd, she knew her mother was still moping about the last man she met, she’s too old for younger men. Then she saw his ears, A human?

Something about it was off to Vivien, she then approached both. Only to greet her mother and then Aerith introduced Vivien…

“Vivien this is Estevot, I took him in, he is your brother now!”

“WHAT?!” Vivien seemed in shock, she wasn’t racist, yet a human In a family of elves was odd to her. But odd was her entire life in one word.

“Hello! It’s good to meet you Big sis- my name is…”

“Estevot”

The story flowed from there. Fire and hell came at the pair since they parted ways and met again. Their time sweet and rare, Vivien cherished her brother unlike anyone else. It was a reminder that she has family besides her mother. It was sweet, good, a reminder of the promises she made.

But it was his death that made her realize how sweet his love was, the memories only are but a reminder of what keeps us moving to the future.

if only those tears she was shedding at her bedside fell slower, so she could find a way to keep him alive.

just a little longer.

When Estevot first learned how to see from the skies those he cared for still living, he checked on Vivien first. He wished he could have reached out and hugged her one last time, told her it was okay. But he supposed that trying to send his overflowing gratitude and love for his sister to her would have to be enough.

Savannah only received the news after having her last child, named Maria von Rhoswald as she cradled the new baby she looked toward her sister in law "Could you light a candle for me please, in honor of our fallen family member" as she watched she leans back and admired her new daughter

Ruby on the other hand was crying, not only did she lose her father but her sister Estella too, holding her sister's body tightly against her own, a small child close by "W-why, just why..w-what do I do now.." the teen eyes just watered like it was a never going to stop

Estella was indeed gone, her lifeless body held by her younger sibling, her spirt moved to the seven skies "Soo...how do I explain myself" she hums shuffling as she could not meet her father's view

Estevot just hugged his second youngest daughter tightly. "I wish you'd told me before...but you don't have to explain unless you want to." He led her gently towards her mother, Rosetta, all of them together again.

Lenora was playing with her daughter Rovsan'i above the shop in Nevaehlen when a letter turned up.
She placed it on the counter while she put the girl down for a nap

Upon reading the missive, the news of Estevot's death. There was a pain in her chest and a sorrow that crept over her. How long had it been since that letter was sent? Surely it hadn't been that long.. right? There must have been time to see him. The Mali'ker woman took a deep breath as she held the paper to her chest as gave a soft mutter as to not wake the child "I know you aren't going to meet Kor, however, I hope he guides you to your afterlife, Llir."

RIP Estevot, he shall be missed. I hope that we can rp again sometime soon Yeet.

Estevot watched over his great-aunt, smiling as he saw her playing with a new daughter. "I think Kor may have helped guide me well enough, Llir. I love you, Auntie."

Spuds with the missive in hand reading it between and during slices of a scalpel as he operated on an artificial life he had put together would let a tsk escape from between his teeth “Solider, commander, madman, deadman. You had quite the time of your life Estey. Let me put you to one more use with this little gift.” the mouseman then used the parchment missive to soak up a blood splotch on the table he works on as he would continue fiddling around with the patient he made.

Estevot felt someone speak about him. He wasn't able to tell yet if it was negative or positive, but he was happy that other people were still remembering him. It was nice to know that, no matter how they thought of him, he had enough value to be remembered.
