Iv been seeing this thrown around more and more since the start of Azuras. I have been thinking about it in great detail recently and wanted to see what everyone else thought about it.

What xMuted, the ever wise Tough Guy, said

Most staff members are very involved with the community both IRPly and OOCly. But like, collectively, Daisy, Josh, and Squak have had less than 20 hours in the past week. Don't even ask about Telanir or Tythus. When's the last time they've looked at or actively engaged with the forums aside from their own (or moderation) posts? They don't listen when we give suggestions, they don't listen when we complain, and they don't even reply to community posts with hundreds of replies from the community voicing what they want unless it gets like, really, really bad. It's a problem.

That being said, they probably won't reply to this post either. It sucks

what xMuted said more or less. Not really any individual staff member's fault barring maybe some odd choices admins have made as of recent, but I do appreciate the serious amounts of effort all have been giving to try improve the server- regardless of if it is for better or for worse.

I'mma be real with ya'll about my experience with the LoTC community.

I try to reach out to NLs and certain players when the occasions arises as I run the Implementation team. Most folks, especially NLs, are great.

But LoTC has a lot of forum-warriors who are toxic as hell. Large swaths of this community are beyond engaging with. They're usually trying to get us into a 'gotcha' in arguments, typing so fast or screaming so loud in VCs it's hard to keep up. Large segments of the community are pessimistic and depressive, they're reactionary and hate any and all change, and will bemoan any new system or idea as incompetent or intentionally abusive. I tend to not even engage with certain people anymore because their arguments are so devoid of logic it's hard to even prove them wrong, because their arguments hinge on 'vibes' and what they 'think' will work, rather than any designed system or data or really anything other than an idea. Add on the fact they're often just rude, insulting, disrespectful, and you get a group of players who are just not worth talking to in many cases.

And this isn't me saying people who disagree with me are these types of people. Players such as Unwillingly, Elrith, Tide1, Fimlin, and many more (Shout out to the homies) are people I can and have either had disagreements with, or had them tell me a POV I never saw, and had great convos that widened my view.

Personally I don't really blame the staffmembers who choose to just not engage in a public forum with the wider community, because the *loudest* voices usually aren't the best ones. It's why I prefer to just personally DM or VC with people privately. Better, and more human way to engage with another person. The worry is that this can make an echo-chamber, which is why I try to expand the folks I talk to beyond just my friends, or my 'group'. But, we try.

Hello all, your local Triage Goblin reporting in for duty o7

When I joined staff team [both times], I did so with the promise to myself that I'd be as attentive to player concerns and my pex and station allowed as well as friendly and approachable [I'm hoping I've achieved both]. Unfortunately, my perms only allow me to do so much though part of my job is relaying player concerns to the devs, which I've been doing to the best of the ability. It's a set of beliefs I firmly share with Pup, my manager.

I can't really deny that there seems to be a divide, which is both understandable and irritating for both players and staff, though this seems to mostly extend into senior staff, from what I'm seeing.

This makes sense in part because interacting with the community in excess can potentially interfere with the semi-impartiality they're supposed to maintain.

HOWEVER, I do believe communication between staff and players is INSANELY important when it comes to moving the server in a direction that keeps as many folks happy, safe and entertained as possible.  At the end of the day, we all log on with the intent of unwinding in some way, both players and staff- we invest hours of our days, weeks, months and years in the hopes that LOTC will serve that purpose. If players aren't being listened to, it can lead to a lot of resentment that can make the server very UNfun and develop exceedingly unhealthy rings in both groups where a 'player vs staff' mentality develops.

Most players interact with the staff community with respect and vice versa. However, there are still more than the server's fair share of bag eggs and toxic players who can make our job far less enjoyable. The same, however, also applies to staff interactions with players at times. It's a vicious cycle.

There is good and bad in each community and I do think we need to start holding those who are toxic FAR more accountable for their actions on both sides so that it eases the flow of communications.

The same applies across all staff ranks.

This of course is probably just one facet of an elaborate process needed to reopen communications.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on how we can overcome this issue and where the origin lies, given the overwhelming player verdict right now, be it on this thread or over discord or forum PMS. All are open. :)

Cheers

-Mori

Since i don't want think to be a doomer post or anything i will just express that i made this our of pure curiosity. I would like to people to reframe from toxic or gotcha stuff because that's not really going to help anyone. I also agree with @Kaiserand @Morigung-oog for their points on toxicity.

At the end of the day we are all humans and i do believe that a lot of the staff are doing their best with the new map (shout out to the ST who take my random block tickets, @Cheeseand @Smolfor their help with new players and @Morigung-oogand @Venomous_Pupfor saving my horse from the void)

With that said i do want to contribute some feedback in a more positive way along with possible solutions that i can see:

Sometimes a different point of view is important. Personally my biggest 2 issues of the map are not what i expected going into the map. I strongly believed that th food plugin was going to be a major issue with food expiration. However i am happy that i was wrong. (Partly because im doing through 4 stacks of food a day)

My first big personal issue is with the coal, but to be more precise, i do not enjoy how i need to pick between food and ores. Well im not sure if this would work, i would like to see charcoal reimplmented as a SMOKER ONLY fuel in order to cook food. Well yes a campfire is an alternative, i do not enjoy spending 5 minutes just afking well making food... also making crafting torches with charcoal would be very pog too!

My second big personal issue is with the mines, maybe some people enjoy the new system and that's fine, i am personal a fan of the nodes, however with that said, i do not enjoy doing 2-3 hour mining runs just to get less then a full set of armor, not to mention weapons or if i wanted to make rp items or anything, it's a necessary part of the server, but it is not an enjoyable part as i would rather to funny bartender rp. I believe reimplmenting nation mines or increasing yield would solve this for the most part, make everything produce 2 per block instead of 1 per block.

I can't help but think most posts like these are rep farms because people will obviously say they feel disconnected from staff, no hate towards JoshBright.
I will say, Kaiser's words on the issue are spot on in my humblest of opinions.

Forum rep means nothing imo, tho i do agree that some people have attempted to just make 'gotcha' posts for the upvote
