I once copied a Red Faith book by hand in Arcas, I felt like I was one of those ******* Monks writing a copy of the bible in Bavaria in the 1200's.

You will be a SLAVE to Peter Thiel and Sam Altman, incapable of doing anything without technology. You're gonna be the ******* fat floating chuds from Wall-E mindlessly consuming slop. I will survive this neo-feudalistic takeover through my sheer will and I will buy you through the new legal-loophopes into an unfavourable contract and turn you into an object. I will make you lick your daily dose of lamb feed (this one in particular: https://epol.co.za/product/elite-lamb-finisher/#open) from the floor as you mindlessly stare into the vacant void, your mind captured by an endless stream of politically questionable instragram reels directly into your brain cortez from your neuralink brain chip. I will stand over you dressed with a wide-brimmed feathered hat and a fur coat like some 80's pimp with my grinning teeth encased with jewels and a large golden chain saying "SUCKS TO SUCK" encrusted with diamonds hanging from my neck. My shoes are going to have a curling pointed tip like i'm santa's best elf and i will tower over you like a sumerian god king. And you won't even know it. You won't even have a capital first letter in your name when its written down. Because you're a cheat and you've forsaken your human spirit for the lie of the machine.

I will archive until it kills me from every source I can touch; I've made damn sure the 'archiving for the sake of preservation' folder is different than the 'had access to this IC' folder. I feel the pain here, but good lord have I seen too many books fall off this server even with the effort of Farglade and its contributors.

I'd still like it to be as ethical as possible. I just dont know how to do so yet so Ive paused my archiving

I think this is a good take. I think these mods HAVE real purpose like that. BUT - using it to STEAL books? ILLEGAL !!!!!!!

As an archivist, I gotta agree with @Shadeleafand others.

Glitchy shelves have eaten so many of my books and caused them to completely disappear from the server. If I only had one copy of a rare book and the shelf glitched and ate my book, I'd smash my computer.

Book copying mods allow the content to remain in circulation even long after the original books have disappeared or gotten lost.

I don't agree with book piracy. You shouldn't put your name on someone else's work. But I'm glad copies of my MC books have remained in circulation for years thanks to book-copiers.

Having a copy of the book doesn't even have to mean that you make an in game item copy of it... If you want to preserve a book, you can save the text, and if it becomes lost you can still make a copy of it whenever. Releasing mechanic items of the rare book that you duped with what is essentially a hacked client isn't archival.

This isn't to accuse anyone of anything, just throwing it out there. Also farglade is amazing 10/10 best project ever.

I think its so shrimple to just say "hey yea you cannot use book mods on any book you DONT ALREADY OWN/During Crime" but it will never happen in big 2026. We need another revision of the war rules so the same 20 human players can LARP.

Posted (edited)

Back in my day we copied 'em all by hand, straight transcriptions no funny business. Nowadays I've got 265 transcribed books to my name and... And... God I'm... I'm so tired. I'm so tired. Please. Let the younger generations rest. Let them rest. Look at my hands. My beautiful hands. They're more tunnel than carpal. God... I've wasted it all... Let the children rest.

And hey at least they're reading.

I shall fall upon all printing press companies that exist irply with the fury of ten thousand hammers in the hands of second graders loosed upon a Piñata at a birthday party in july

Adopt the meta my Witch has, where if anyone copies the books I've written and sells them, I'll hunt them down like a dog and disjoin their skull from their body. I think the best defence against it really is to include your name INSIDE the actual book, the biggest issue is even without the book copying mods, there is so many other ways to be able to copy them that unless you get caught doing it or admit to it, it would basically be impossible to detect, which it kinda would be with the mods currently since they all work client side. But unironically, I think it would also be kinda cool to try to tackle it IRPly as well, start hunting down those that do plagiarism and throw rotten tomatos at them or something.

We are all going to start putting a trade mark at the bottom of each page now. These copyists going to put in the effort to erase it now. Yes we as in you and I. You the reader! Now come here

I am mixed here

As someone who has made books and contributed to IRP knowledge and I am a proud metagamer, the fact that removing archiving books from the server or outright banning is should be seen as a non-issue.

Pros of keeping Book-Copying:

- Archiving extremely important information

- Archiving past roleplay books that could come in handy

- Assists in easy access teaching for Alchemy

- Assists people in repeatedly selling their books

- Assists in continuously spreading knowledge

Cons of keeping Book-Copying:

- Archiving extremely important information that could've been meta'd [Example: Information about Djinn that no one has seen but someone was saved in a book and is so mass produced it's unable to be stopped from being spread properly]

- People "archiving" others books and selling it as their own [Not a big issue?]

- Blatant Plagarism

etc etc.

I am not very opposed but akin to the rules I recommended regarding AI, the comments are akin to my answer.

This isn't entirely a issue to mediate or enforce restrictions on.

What exactly is archiving?

Was the dwarf going into Hnor library last map and coming out w a belly suspiciously shaped like hundreds of books painstakingly collected through RP diplomacy, trades and policy just archiving?
