  1. 1. Patch 1.6.5 | What should we do?

    • Keep the skill plugin; update it as needed.
    • Remove the skill plugin.
    • Replace the skill plugin with a different solution, for example something like mcMMO.
    • Revamp the skill plugin, change how restrictions work for different tools to be less difficult.
    • Other (please specify in comments)
  2. 2. What are you most upset about all this?

    • I'm not upset!
    • I'm upset I lost my old skill levels.
    • I'm upset because I hate this skill system.
    • I'm upset because it "breaks RP" and is a "grind".
    • Other (please specify in comments)

100 point system works for me. I just hate the reset, is all.

Oh, well, back to grinding with wooden stuff. Again.

*sigh.

Well the basic diference is weight.A diamond sword would be almost unncariable since its so heavy.Abd try to wied a wood sword Then a iron One.There is a big diference betwen them

Actually, iron is more than twice as dense as diamond. Really there is no reason why a noob couldn't use a diamond sword, but there is also no reason why it should be any better than a wooden one if you can't use it properly. I think anyone should be able to use any grade of tool, but you have to level up the skill to use diamond tools properly. Make it so speed of mining (and damage with weapons) increases with your skill but is limited by the grade of tool, so a low level character can still use a diamond pickaxe but it's no better than a wooden one and can't mine hard ores, while a high level character could use tools up to their maximum speed.

Also, its stupid that you need a diamond pick to mine diamond etc, and removing tree-punching makes it impossible to get money for new players.

Vaq, as much as it adds more goals, I think there should be some way for a GM to make exceptions such as:

I personally build trees. It makes it a lot easier using diamond over wood. Maybe a GM could be able to give people levels, so one could potentially do their job without leveling?

Other than that, yay! Skills!

This will surly keep the RP in line so that that you stay to your profession and we don't have renaissance men everywhere.

I gave in at the Verge to be honest, doing things I could do as a normal mincraft player but IC I would not be able to.

But with the difficulty now of skills and buffed mobs, People will trade more instead of going into the wild to get things themselves.

I like the skills, but there needs to be changes done. The 100 point system idea sounds great to me, I was actually thinking about something like that myself. But maybe it should be a bit more than that, 150 points or so?

I say again this adds to RP with buying stuff. You can finally have guilds that can depend on a single person, say a farm, to survive. Or start a training guild like a Training Camp Guild in which you train people to be adept in fighting. Also makes it so that shops mean more to something.

150 sounds nice. Fifty XP in three categories. My character was a master blacksmith, not so bad with a sword, and a good archer. That's it. SO, I could do 50 to smith and bow, 25 to sword, and 25 to a random clutch of skills. You could just hape people /modreq what they want, and if does not comply with the RP things that they could do, deny the whole thing.

My main problem is the lag the skills cause. I was fighting some pigmen who were very fast and dangerous then we updated to stats and they were moving super slow, that is no fun.

Hey Acornlad,

I'm still working on optimizing code; it's messy as ****. I'm not lagging that badly though.

thats right my internet is truly crap and lotc doesnt really lagg that much for me it even lagged more without skills :P

It would be much better if instead of leveling up in order to use your good items, you leveled up with the item you are using:

Let's say you have a diamond sword. Instead of the "you are not proficient blah blah blah" thing, the weapon would deal the same damage as a wooden one. As you level up with that weapon, it gets to deal more damage until it reaches the MC diamond sword's damage. If you go from a diamond to an Iron, you have to level up the Iron and do the same with the different tools and weapons.

Why I propose this- It makes it more realistic; You level up the item you use instead of leveling up in order to use it. It's more comfortable and realistic, as I already said. Irl you get to be more experienced with the item you know how to use, and so you know how to use it better.

I would like to suggest that planting seeds should add to farming with the following logic applying:

Anyone can throw seeds at the ground and some percentage of the time something will grow. As they gain more experience in farming they will learn how to plant with more skill or more judiciously. To me, it seems that the harvesting of something (at least in LOTC world) is much easier than the planting of it. Any one can inexpertly use an inappropriate tool like a sword to split open a melon and then eat the ragged pieces of it.

Additionally, I'd like for making ale, soup and bread to contribute to the cooking stat (or is that stat just completely not working at the moment?)

I look forward to the addition of archery as a developed stat, but otherwise I am pleased with the change.

(** in the interest of full disclosure I was one of the people with nothing to lose because I did not lose any previous progress**)

Hello! Houston here! I have recently logged on after about a 1 week absence to find out that I have become ingame disabled. The skills plugin was great for roleplay, but when you lose your mining, excavation, swords, and smithing skills all at once, you can really anger a player. ( ie. I had lvl 45 mining and lvl 35 smithing, 20~hrs total work, gone.

I'm upset because I miss the old highscores system with mcMMO. Now with this plugin it doesn't allow you to max out in everything, and for me I enjoy reaching that goal and maintaining a rank.
