ShadowNinji 34 Share Posted March 2, 2012 This has been an idea I have had for a while to cut down on no pvp ban reports and improve over all roll play. Please tell us what you think?
Secret Lizard President 313 Share Posted March 2, 2012 Personally, I prefer PvP during wars, but not at any other point. :

Trouvo 205 Share Posted March 2, 2012 I think that pvp being turned off in general would boost people actually rping, vaq added in /damage for a reason. I think that if pvp was only turned off in certain areas it would just cause meta of people running there when being mugged or something, but due to how world guard works we can turn pvp on in the region for a war/seige/etc for pvp of the battle, but otherwise if it was off there would be much more actual rp and even *gasp RP fighting, instead of who can click their mouse the fastest
awesumninja123 54 Share Posted March 2, 2012 I think that pvp should be enabled throughout the whole world of Asulon (Including citites). It would be more rp-ish.
Alranor 41 Share Posted March 2, 2012 Although we do have problems with people attacking for no reason, I think that it is better for the rp to evolve naturally. If it evolves into fighting, so be it. I personally would like no-PvP, but I don't think that we should restrict that right for everyone.
UltraRed 78 Share Posted March 2, 2012 I feel that disabling PvP would increase the number of powergaming mages and invincible warriors running around Asulon. Currently, if you encounter an RP invincible human, you can challenge them to an arena fight, or pull out an axe, and they stop powergaming. If that was TL;DR, then... removing PvP removes an objective way of deciding the victor, and replaces it with consensual victory and loss, leading to more freedom for players who refuse to lose. V0idsoldier 1139 Share Posted March 2, 2012 No, and no. One: It is impossible to rp sometimes, when people powergame like a sailor, it gets absurd, and sometimes you need pvp. Two: No more bandits. People run without emotes as soon as you try to rob them, then cry no pvp when you kill them, but you CANT rp when they are running it is impossible. They run, rp is over, and everyone runs. Three: Will make the atmosphere worse IMO.

Twilight Druid 188 Share Posted March 2, 2012 It's not as easy of have it on have it off. Each RP is different and different methods are needed. Yes RP fighting is better but have have you ever watched a 3v3 or more fight over emotes? It turns to absolute chaos or emotes and actions being missed in the sea of yellow writing. It's up to us RPers to know when it is suitable to use PVP instead of emoting it out.
Aerinyes 402 Share Posted March 2, 2012 PVP for lethal fighting. RP for non-lethal fighting (including unarmed). First option assuming PVP doesn't result in a no-RP kill. There's stat/skill system in effect that promotes RP. Even though it doesn't look like PVP will make RP happen, it actually does. It forces great warriors to be dependent on not so great fighters. To outfit a warrior, you need a miner, a farmer, a blacksmith, and possibly and excavator and lumberjack. PVP means he will want the best stats in fighting skills he can have, to survive. If RP fights were the heavy norm (meaning PVP was only during wars) one could slack on 'PVP oriented' skills and focus on the gathering professions instead. Knowing they could merely RP their way out of fights. Not easy to regulate as you can't check skills, course when was the last time you checked for a title before a RP fight? You probably haven't even thought of it till now. Now since a warrior oriented character needs all those craftsmen. He needs to find them. There's RP right there. In addition I like having 100 stat swordsmen or berserkers to guard me from monsters or bandits. The act of PVP is little RP yes. But the preparation of PVP is alot of RP. In addition the threat of being attacked is scary when traveling alone or in hostile areas. The sense of dread and uncertainty is a great thing. I've never in my 10+ years of RPing online felt that on any RP server of any other game I played. The exceptions were PVP servers. But of course I didn't play on these because of threats of being killed by non-RPers out of the blue. I like the no-RP kill rule we have here. Its sufficient enough to keep most PVP from disrupting things.
Toastersaurus 412 Share Posted March 2, 2012 Generally, it should only be used for wars. This is a rp server, I don't understand some peoples difficulty to rp. You can easily rp a fight fairly, you just have to be realistic to your character. That's why there is a /damage command. PvP isn't fair due to most people emote stabs opponent and then rushes you with clicks. I mean I used to pvp at points but not anymore, I just prefer to use full emotes. Or even use the rolling system to fight. Just a side note, I've been killed quite a few times for being on half a heart from starvation and then people just hit me. It just stops or interrupts rp randomly dying from people punching you once.
--peerless42 59 Share Posted March 2, 2012 I already tried don't bother; it won't happen. Figures some of the same people would still shoot it down.
LTKiinG <3 2 Share Posted March 2, 2012 i personally find pvp a fun thing, not too long ago i was getting robbed, he punched expecting to bruise me and instead killed me due to me being on half a heart, he freaked out and then we both burst out into laughing
xmrsmoothx 317 Share Posted March 3, 2012 The server would first need to be purged of all of the miserably horrible 'roleplayers'.
