I actually once read something interesting about the flood in chinese mythology.

Seems the flood was real, just not as destructive as the bible makers made it seem, it was still pretty bad. Either way, chinese mythology said that a creature of evil created the flood, and that their god was the one that fought against the creature and ended the flood. It was supposibly written at the same time of the story of noah's flood was written, and it makes it seem like the flood has some truth in it. But the chinese mythology makes it seem that the cristian god is an evil creature because it was the one that made the flood happen and it was their god that fought it off.

PS, I forgot if it was indian, chinese, mongol, etc. I'll look for something on the internet about this :3

[edit] I found a wiki article of a great flood in the 3th millenium BCE, no idea when the Noah's flood is dated as

Just going to leave this here as a statement... I am Christian, I know what I believe, I know the Bible to be 100% true. Yet something good an old friend told me once was this, "Caleb you can't argue with people who don't believe in the Bible... they are going to believe what they believe just as you will what you believe. If you want do something then pray... pray that the Lord does something in them as he did in Saul (paul). So to all of you arguing ask yourselves why am I doing this... what am I to achieve, do believe that through my words on this screen that this guy is going to just give each up his beliefs.

So you believe the world is flat and the sun is spinning around the earth? And know it's true?

It doesn't say that in the Bible. The sun spinning around the Earth is just what people, including people in the Catholic church, used to think.

I didn't know that I has such a horrible text-book.

Not an updated one. And apparently not accurate either. It never said the earth was flat or any of that crap which, wasn't even believed in at that time. Many people fail to realize someone couldn't have calculated the circumference of the earth while thinking it was flat. An Ancient Greek, however, did.

There has always been the same amount of water since the world was created, it simply recycles. This is a proven fact and not a theory.

Combustion of Hydrogen. Total number of H2O molecules has increased.

Acid+Base -> Salt+Water. Happens all the time in your blood. Total number of H2O molecules has increased.

Photosynthesis, respiration, the total number H2O molecules changes.

Yes. Now, before we continue, I want to clear things up. The church did in fact steal the image of God from the image of Zeus. Ever see Him depicted as an old, bearded man? Look up a picture of Zeus. We did in fact steal December 25 from the Egyptians. But our concept is completely original. Now, you mention science can disprove the divine. But Neo-Darwinism contradicts science itself. If you read the article, you would know that the second law of thermodynamics does not allow Evolution to happen.

@Reman According to the bible, God has always been, and will always be. He is omnipresent. If you need a better description, feel free to ask.

Well, now you've upset the resident chemist.

THE SECOND LAW OF THERODYNAMICS

In a spontaneous process, the entropy of the universe increases.

Or, in a more popularised phrasing, the entropy of an isolated system never decreases.

So how the hell does life work? Surely life makes things more ordered? Indeed it does, the number of arrangements decreases, HOWEVER, this is outweighed by exothermic processes such as respiration. The heat given off by life processes to the surroundings results in a net increase in entropy, causing the Second Law of Thermodynamics to be obeyed. (see ATP and ADP) How does this disprove evolution through natural selection? It, uh, doesn't.

EVOLUTION, IN CHEMICAL TERMS, IS NOT A DECREASE IN ENTROPY.

Evolution requires non-living matter to turn into a living organism and this has never been observed.

It, um, doesn't.

Evolution through natural selection merely involves natural variation in organisms being directed by the weaker ones dying off before they reproduce.

As for the rebuttal of Part 2, how, assuming it does happen, do you propose that we observe it? The atmospheric conditions likely no longer exist.

EVIDENCE 4: Complex Systems do not evolve 'bit by bit'

Lungs from gills from something else from diffusion (a chemical process). Legs from fins. Complex eyes from primitive eyes. To rebut your baby argument, there are a lot of completely useless vestigal parts of our bodies. The appendix for example. Complex systems take over from less complex systems, which take over from less complex systems. You say DNA is needed? Look at RNA, a more basic version. You can't chain back to bacteria because bacteria are modern organisms, but the original lifeform is probably not that complex, even if we might not, by our standards, call it life, as our perception of life is based on modern lifeforms.

EVIDENCE 5:   The Missing Links are Still Missing

We have so many dinosaur fossils because of the circumstances of their demise. If everything that ever died was fossiled, we would have a very large amount of fossils. Besides, your common ancestor (not 'missing link', it's not apes > humans, it's something > humans and apes) gets found a lot.

Fossils often don't give us much beyond bone structure and a bit of poo. How much can you tell about an organism from just its shape?

For over 1500 generations, fruit flies have been subjected to radiation and chemicals.4 This caused mutations in the flies. If you take a human generation to be 25 years, this is equal to around 37 500 years (1500 x 25) in human terms. What happened to these mutated flies over this time? Firstly, they were still flies and had not evolved into anything else! Secondly the flies as a population were worse off with many dying, having curly wings or stubby wings.

Give me a 37,500 year old fruit fly.

The fruit fly is adapted to its environment. There is no pressure for it to change. If the stubby winged fruit flies lived and the normal ones died, then the numbers of normals would go down. Hail the stubbies.

If humans originated in Africa, where did we get white people from?

Now comes the fun part.

Evolution via Natural Selection and the existence of God are not mutually exclusive unless you're a fundamentalist who thinks humanity is a result of mass incest between two people.

Also, disproof of evolution is NOT proof of intelligent design. Rather than trying to prove your theory by disproving another, non-mutually exclusive theory, prove yours. And we'll see how your 'evidence' holds up.

This is the problem I have with science. You assume everything instead of find cold, hard facts.

The hilarious irony of this statement aside, if something written in a book is cold hard fact, then henceforth you are a panda. I have it written in my little book of Lago Scripture right here.

Now, go find your "evidence" which can only be supported with theories, and we can continue this.

Get yours.

Revelation 7:1

1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on four cornors of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.

So the world has four cornors?  this would make the world flat. Look at a rectangle. it has eight cornors. Look at a paper. It has 4 cornors.

Psalm 93:1  "The world also is stablished that it cannot be moved."

This means that only the sun would be able to orbit the earth if there should be day and night.

Day 4 - God created the sun, moon, and the stars to give light to the earth and to govern and separate the day and the night. These would also serve as signs to mark seasons, days, and years.

The four corners of the Earth was a mistranslation, or so I've read. Here's some page about the flat-earth thing: http://www.godandscience.org/apologetics/dome_of_heavens.html

And of course the acceptance of slavery and suppression of women was a mistranslation too.

Stoning of women, burning of unbelievers, destroying of whole cities because one person does not believe, all that stuff.

But that was the old testament, so most christian sects don't believe that part of the bible. Welp, your god is omnipotent and never wrong, how could you just erase part of the bible from your beliefs.

THE PASSIVE AGGRESIVENESS IN THIS THREAD! JUST... YUM

This thread is basically uninformed people tossing around uninformed opinions in an uninformed fashion. Lotta misconceptions going on all over the place, and it makes me sad. Usually, if someone is taking a sarcastic/passive-aggressive tone when it comes to this kind of thing, they're not going to be open-minded enough to seriously think about whatever you say to them; in fact, it half-demonstrates a kind of mindset that whomever they are speaking to is automatically wrong, misinformed, and ignorant quite often.

Blargh.

I have a lot to say, but I'm not even going to bother because I feel like it'd be a waste.

Sorry where? I don't remember either of these things being directly endorsed. You're trying to read a 2,000+ year old book with the mindset of a 21st century male. Read it with the mindset of someone from 1000 BC and it will make a lot more sense.
