KannAllyEnd 12 Share Posted May 24, 2012 You walk into the Inn. Order your drinks, greet your friends--you go about your business as usual. The usual din of the bar buzzes in your ears, the fire in the hearth making the air swelter. As you lift your drink to you lips for a cooling sip, you hear a high voice clearing itself. You turn towards the sound, and see a small figure, standing atop a table. 'How odd,' you must be thinking. We're citizens of Haelun'or afterall; not barbarians who regularly climb atop tables! But you before you can protest, and tell this stranger to stop acting like a mangy Kharajyr and come down off the furniture at once! People eat off of that table, you know--the figure begins to speak. Her voice is only a bit shaky (look closely; her hands are also trembling), but it is loud and clear, commanding attention. "Friends," the small creature begins. She pauses thoughtfully, then lifts her hood from her face. Her pointed ears and fair hair assure her audience that she is no stranger, no impure seeking to ruin the peace. Her eyes dart about nervously, hoping to have answered the most pressing question on her esteemed fellows' minds. "I am Ante'vuln," she says, bowing, "forgive me for scuffing the woodwork, but I wanted...to make an announcement, of sorts." She hops off the table. Being small for a High Elf, Ante'vuln seems acutely aware of her now-diminished stature--and squares her shoulders, straightening her spine. "I wish to offer you all a...gift," she continues, "for being so courteous, so welcoming. I wanted to give back something." Ante'vuln bites her lip, takes a deep breath. "I am offering," she clears her throat, "a contest. With a prize," she clarifies quickly. "Here are the terms: You will choose one of the three children's stories I have written, and create an illustration for your chosen piece. Illustrations shall be sent to me by bird, and judged accordingly." Now she smiles. "The winner will be selected from the applicants. And last story I will write in my series...will center upon him or her! You will be immortalized in words as the hero of my next tale, a story written with you as the title character!" "Afterward, I'll want to do an interview with the winning artist, so I can get an idea of who you are and better translate you into literature," Ante'vuln finishes, cheeks flushing from both excitement and being flustered from the public speaking, "all who are interested--I thank you dearly for your participation!" Sporadic 2844 Share Posted May 24, 2012 Ellir smiles faintly as the petite (for Aheral standards) finishes her speech. She looks at her hands, callused and caked with dirt, wondering if she can see a hilt's imprint in her palms. Can these hands, those of a builder, a warrior, even hold the fine brushes of the artist proper? By Larihei, they can! Ellir is High Elven, and a pure one at that. And as everyone in this city knows, a true Mali'aheral can do everything she sets her blessed mind to. And although having herself or any other pure High Elf as the hero in a story of grandeur would be all the same to her, who would pass up the opportunity to aid a Elven writer in need? Besides, having a book with pretty pictures would mean Valah can finally too learn about Haelun'or ways. If only knowledge could be made edible so the same could be done for Orcs. ((Bamboo tablet? Why that would be his favorite book of all" He thought to himself. Barbu looked over to his mother to see a smile forming on her lips. She too was probably thinking of entering. "Well if his mom could he could too." He thought to himself. He then grabbed his moms hand beckoning her towards the library so they could read some stories.
