Mage's Guild

I reckon a pair of rival groups of mages could prove interesting, and would give either side a bit more focus than just learning about magic and governing their members in accordance with their own rules.

They could have seemingly opposing idealologies, and one who is a member of one cannot be a member of another.

In terms of RP... It might be fun.

Actually... How about this 'Counsil' (Wouldn't it be Council? Sorry, but typos like that make me cringe) make themselves into a darker and edgier version of the regular Guild, formed by some rogue wizards who didn't agree with some rule that the regular lot do. It'd put an extra layer of exposition on the world, and give an excuse for a fight between mages of similar ability.

.... Wait. Why is this suddenly making me think of how most of the Sith start off in the Expanded Universe of Star Wars.... Rogue Jedi who disagree with some rule, slowly getting corrupted by the Dark side of the Force and turning into monstrous beings of humanoid power given enough time. ... Oh well, it's a fun trope to work with, the whole splintering off into a rival group of evil doing evilly evil people schtick.

Interesting concept. I like it!

I can see how that would be fun and exciting but I can see the if this rivulry continues that the mages with there powere could bring quite a bit of chaos and destruction.

OOC: I'm afraid this concept would only work if the opposing Mage's group actually followed the server's rules in terms of lore, had permission to exist from a GM or Availer, had good RPers in it, and didn't power-game their way into existence. I believe if such a group was created, it would be better to let it create itself naturally once Magic is released and the Mage's Guild as it is now has more members. For now, I'd prefer, personally, if we didn't get ahead of ourselves and let every single person create their own splintered-off "mage's group" before magic has even been released. As of now, we don't have any decent candidates to head such a group. Lets just wait and see how things develop after magic is released, rather than trying to write things into the storyline now?

I agree with this to be honest. We need an actual group to have had a presence in the game for quite a while before we start having splintering offshoots...

I retract my suggestion until magic is released!

*puts the suggestion in the imaginary Hall Of Things To Be Mentioned At A Later Date* (it's next to the Corridor Of Things I Should Have Said At That Time But Didn't, I don't like going around that area much.)

OOC: Mage application's will likely be up soon, but not quite yet. But keep in mind that not everyone is suited to be a mage. It is a permanent commitment, and before you even think about it, make sure to read Slayer's lore in the history forum. It explains why exactly magic hasn't been available until only recently and also alludes to the fact that mages will be physically weaker than other people, as well as that they will get more weak physically as their magical prowess grows. To start thinking about how you would fit in as a mage were you to apply, make sure to read the lore and start thinking about how it fits in with your character background and personality. [/OOC]

Excellent! if you read the impulseHQ's topic on planned orc subraces, you should notice that there should be, in the nearfuture, a sub race called: Slahka (ya, i know the name is kinda weird) anyways, the slahka are an orc sub-race that are very magical, i am going to apply for this sub race the moment it is possible, wich only increases my chance of getting to be a mage! (or in orc tongue, shaman, or sharman) therefor i rest my case saying that it is likely, that i will be granted as a mage

of course, there are no guarantees, after all it's still up to you guys

~ with full respect to the mages guild, Mork the Orc ( soon to be: Mork the Slahka) :P

OOC: The subraces for orcs were changed from what was posted on Impulses' thread. The shaman subrace for orcs has already been released. Its not a subrace you have to apply for, but you are expected to RP it. If you set your race as shaman and do not RP it its entirely likely you may be forced to change. I'm not sure what the policy on orcs is; I'm sure they'll be able to apply for the Mage's Guild, but any other details on how they'll be handled, I'm not sure. Since they don't have to go through an application (as far as I know) to become an orc mage, you just have to set your subrace as shaman. Shamans are the orc mages.

Being in a mages guild will help you in your application to become a mage, and you can only apply once so being in the mages guild will be hugely beneficial to becoming a magic person in aegis. There is no reason to not join the guild. there is no side affects that are bad, just good.

I noticed, that earlier there were multiple people listed as apprentices when new app form came out.

Now that they have all been romeved, I'd like to know are we still part of the guild, or do we need to re-apply?

You will need to re-apply. Sorry about that.

Also new news it is not one chance on the application. You will get several but we expect top caliber people.

so, it's now possible to apply?

please answer very quickly, i would hate to apply to late, then there would already be enough mages and i would have no chance at being expected

~Mork (hopefully soon to be, Mork the Mage)

~PS: is my avatar disturbing to look at? i can change it if enough people dislike it
