[Poll] Death And You.

So, it's currently come to our attention that items have stopped dropping on death, magically dissapearing into the void to be lost forever.

A lot of players are angry about this - although it makes me wonder how many of them break the '30 minutes' memory loss rule to recover their items.

We are now taking a fresh look at Death Mechanics, and want the playerbases opinions on the matter.

POLL CAN BE FOUND HERE >>>

1. Old-school 'Lose everything'

  • Makes war more profitable for the winner.
  • Makes death punishing, making players more likely to have self-preservation.
  • Nothing really vanishes - it all gets cycled back into the economy.
  • Some players will powergame or avoid death and war in order to keep their items.
  • Death can be very punishing for new players, whereas veterans can afford to lose.

RP Reasoning : Monks don't care about material possessions, only saving the person.

2. Lose your inventory and armour, keep your hotbar
  • Won't hit new players too hard - they will keep their base tools.
  • Makes death less punishing, but still a setback - you'll have something to restart from.
  • You can keep sentimental items like written books safe.
  • Can't think of any cons at the moment.

RP Reasoning: Monks don't care about material possessions, but will carry a person's valuables with them. They remove a person's armour to treat their wounds better.

3. All items automatically go into the inventory of your killer when you die; if you're killed by a mob they simply vanish.

I don't think this is a great choice, but it seems a valid alternative.

  • Those who do well in PVP are rewarded most - you can't just run around picking up loot.
  • Doesn't make a awful lot of RP sense - in most real-life wars, scavenging enemy equipment was outlawed until a battle is done to prevent soldiers breaking ranks to grab equipment. Of course, there's always exceptions.
  • Death is still quite punishing.
RP Reasoning: Winner takes all, Monsters don't want items so they are left to rot.

4. Only certain items should not be dropped on death, such as written books.

  • A lot less punishing on all players.
  • Makes war essentially pointless if the aim is to loot resources.

RP Reasoning: The Monks now care about a person's possessions, carrying them with them to the temple.

A 'Runescape' type dropping event is better in my eyes. Instead of dropping your entire inventory w/o hotbar included, I would rather drop everything on the ground in a chest form and keep the three most valuable items.

As VAT member, I'd like to see an option satisyfying both, the killer and the victim. Fairness ftw!

So I died earlier... I waited 30 minutes... Went back to where that bloody spider snuck up on me... And ta da! All my items were still there. Am I special? I always wanted to be special.

If "special healing monks" find you and bring you back to life, why can't they also hold onto your items?

That's something I never understood.

Material possessions also means clothes.

Suddenly, the monks are banned for cybering.

Most of deaths come from Mobs, and if you die via Mobs, then you do not loose 30 minutes as It essentially is a NO-RP kill. People have died in front of me and I've left their items on the ground waiting for them to come back and continue the RP.

I say put it back as it used to be. Monks may not care for material possetions, although my Character may and if the monks don't take it, he will.

Clothes don't really add weight and it would waste time taking the clothes off. For armour they would take it off because the time it would take to carry an armoured person would be much longer than the time it takes to carry an unarmoured person.

Anyway, I just want it to be put back to the default MC way.

If possible please allow players to keep written books. No one wants to spend hours writing only to lose all of their progress to mobs. Other than that I like the hot bar idea.

Add the poll freya;) I like the hot bar the most. Keep some items but not all.

Honestly it has never made much sense why the things I keep in my pockets and such suddenly vanish...though from there comes the idea how do I keep stacks of dirt in my pockets, but that's just Minecraft. The fact we loose everything we have on us has always seemed a lot like the coin loss, it is unexplained and sits badly with the rp, though I always rp the coin loss as taken to cover the materials needed to heal me from bleeding out from the giant stab wound. On the other hand loosing everything in my hotbar is a bit weird, that one bar of iron or piece of bread suddenly vanished and I'm pretty sure the monks didn't take it.

What if we did the hot bar but limited it to non block/armor items?
