Trolling

Recently, there has been a few people banned by Respiren on the account of trolling, those of whom feel unjustly banned. They were given prior warning before, to cease antics such as these and to behave in a mature manner befitting of this server.

We pride ourselves on being the number one roleplaying server, yet, we have people who act in such immature ways, which truly disappoints me. Now, I know we all have a little troll within us, though that being said it is your maturity which measures how active it is, and I am starting to see that there is too many people losing this maturity therefore allowing themselves to become "trolly" to purposefully get under one another's skin and it is not good to see.

We are a large community, we all have our own cliques which we form and become part of, but we are all a part of LotC, part of this environment and community. I see it unnecessary for us to cause strife with one another, when we are all here for the same purpose, to RP.

Thus bringing me onto this next point.

From now forth, trolling can and will be punishable by GM's and FM's alike, based upon a case by case system. We have already seen it done after the players were given formal, verbal warning but from now on this post is to serve as the warning to all players concerning of any future trolling.

Definition of trolling: (for those whom need it)

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion. The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."

Now, after looking over the petition (which might I add was embroiled in foul language and inappropriate images when it was first made, not helping your case), I support Respirens actions. He has always been one who has been strict and just in his bans, he doesn't ban someone for no reason and he is meticulous in his methods when he approaches players appeals.

VA's are meant to be given to players are good mature roleplayers, who are deemed fit to act villainous as long as it pertains to their Villain Applications. Now, I do not feel that trolling and ignoring warnings shows that they are mature enough to be given these privileges. Villains, seem to forget that they are here to provide good, interesting and engaging RP, rather than looting, or stealing from chests upon any given opportunity. Their immaturity is the reason their VA's have been revoked and they will be suspended from making or acting under VA's until the GM's have deemed him fit to act as a villain once again.

I know that you few will feel aggrieved that the decision has not gone your way, and that I have responded to it as such. But if you haven't noticed Danie has been absent for a while and in her stead she has left me with the task of filling her roles till she returns, that includes the appointment of GMs and as head of the GM team, hence why I am responding to this. I will address the two issues which I have seen that the players are most unhappy with.

First off, the revoking of Bananatoyou's Va. Now, I don't know if you are aware of this, but I revoked it in May and Blacklisted him from creating another VA. He was wrongly returned the right to make a VA and it was done without my knowledge. If respiren had not have revoked it, I would have done so anyway.

Secondly, the in-game ban of Divinus. Divinus was banned before for trolling and immaturity, he stated in his appeal that "I have matured enough to where I can play once again on LoTc, and will ensure that I will not make the same mistakes that lead to this ban." . His trolling since then has shown that he learnt nothing, and therefore his appeal was not made in earnest. Mogroka also agreed with this and has supported respirens decision to ban him.

My question concerning the VAs. If VAs are to be given to good roleplayers, explain to me how this has anything to do with the trolling incident, which was purely OOC.

So I have a couple questions about this post, just wanted to get them cleaned up.

-Will smaller trolling incidents be cumulative, and act sort of like the strike report system or be a part of the strike report system? Will there eventually be that tipping point leading to a perma-ban? Or will every incident beforehand not count as evidence for a ban of any sort?

-If the trolling incidents are counted as evidence, will trolling incidents before the date of this post be counted? Or will they be void?

-Will trolling incidents be automatically semi perma-ban and possible unban via appeal? Or will a straight out time-limit be given on things such as teamspeak?

-Will trolling within a party be acceptable if everybody within such party is fine with it? Or will it be dependent on where you are ,such as inside a locked teamspeak channel, or trolling eachother in the middle of Arethor IG? Or will it just not be acceptable in general?

-How will blackmail be tolerated via holding up a person hostage with trolling evidence? Will blackmailing be frowned upon? Or would it be encouraged to just come out with any trolling evidence whether you are blackmailing a person or not?

Anyways, just some of the questions I was thinking of.

Maturity is an important factor in determining if someone is a "good role-player". Trolling is an exceptionally poor demonstration of maturity.

Although someone can write a brilliant VA, it does not mean they deserve a VA. A VA is not only graded upon how well they can write, but how mature that player is. When I see someone I know whom trolls either IC or OOC applying for a VA, I skip their VA's.

A VA isn't accepted for purely RP manners, but also how well that player can behave OOCly.
