The only concern I have with this lore is that it would be used in battles, to see the enemy which could be a little meta.

And I think the concept of seeing enemies from afar is... A way to meta without breaking any rules.

Contrary to popular belief, the horizon of the earth (or in this case Asulon) could easily make it so that you cannot see a coming army. Hills would also be a harming factor. Also the fact that we still don't have glass molding to perfection, so the lenses will be off. It'll be like being able to see half-detailed at Far distance, maybe a bit further. Also I doubt people will constantly be checking the telescope. There are many ways to get around this, and it adds more tactics to the jobs other than "CHARGE, ARMY!".

Also that we will not be able to physically meta unless a plugin gets created where it say moves you (invisible) forward a certain amount just so you can see in that area, and creates a temp NPC of you at that location, however that's thinking too far ahead. We would not be able to use these for meta unless it's something that's pre-discussed in a war claim for example, but then the issue of a telescope would be brought up before the war claim happens. The purpose of a telescope is to add a bit of roleplay, and I think this is a fine way to do it.

It's like you're pressing ctrl in optifine. Probably around a 3x magnification. It would be impossible to use for meta.

...I question how people could come to the conclusion that this is meta. Okay, so, we have a RP'd telescope. Remind me how using something IC to gain IC information is meta.

The fact is that many people create lore simply to give their character an unfair advantage even when it does not fit Asulon's time period. As a scientific advance it isn't a big deal, but as military technology it would be. (yes, I know LOTC does not follow earth's timing but you still shouldn't be creating something that is not medieval without good reasoning) Perhaps as a compromise the device could not b used in the sunlight because of problems with the glass? Just an idea.

... Someone explain to me how there will be ANY metagaming from this. It's a fricking telescope, that will be either on a tower of a mountain, pointing at the sky.

Also, IT'S IC! That's not metagaming, when it's a IC advantage.

I seem to have missed that it would be of a large size. In that case I don't see a problem with that. Sorry about that, my reading comprehension...

I think it's a good idea. Not too much of a jump, in my opinion. You have my support, +1.

I wanted to write lore on the solar system of of Asulon. But I knew I had to write telescope lore first. First someone writes lightning evocation for me and now this. You guys are the best : )

That's really my point. We have enough engineers, but back in the ancient/medieval times many people were interested in looking up.

The Story

Suddenly, idea struck Oelilag. He moved to the small chest that held his personal items, rummaging for a moment before he found the case that held the spare pair of glasses he owned. He hobbled back to the window, arranging the lenses so he had a 3-lense thick. He peered at the moon, and could make out the white surface, dotted with craters.

This is why I voted no, honestly, I wouldn't think he would all of the sudden jump up and exclaim "This makes perfect sense!" and go get his spare glasses. Besides, I plain and simple don't see the point of telescopes, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the inventor of actual telescopes take years working on it to get it to where it functioned correctly? So why would your character perfect it magically over such a short time....

This and the whole possibility of meta and the fact it doesn't seem to fit in with the times of the land....

Oelilag is a scientist. Every night, he gazed at the stars. He had a lens that amplified his sight. Any edumicated man, like himself, would soon realize that maybe if you add more then 1 lens VOILA! BIGGER AMPLICATION! He just needed that little jump of old age forgetfulness, to get a kick in the arse and put 2 and 2 together.

Do you think I should add a bit more about Oelilag's life?

I always thought that telescopes reflect by having the lens' at an angle, therefore how would he have learned this if he looked at it through his glasses which would be....straight instead of at angles?

*its been 5 years since I was in the young astronaut club, give me a break if I'm wrong*

      Stein's Final Moments
Alone, that was the feeling he felt, as he laid on the table in the surgical room in the Hohkmat clinic. Fear made itself  known as well, as he was recently cured from vampirism in that very room. The fear only grew as the restraints seemed to get tighter and the room spinning. Two others made there way in, separate, and at different times. They were once friends, family even if it came down to it. But his actions caused them to forget him as someone good. Hour's passed by as Stein, now called Almer, laid there on the surgical table, waiting for his fate to be decided. The door creaked open and his restraints came loose, allowing himself to sit up. His fate had been decided, the only thing he could do, was make it painless. The choices were simple, die a painful death, or be put to sleep, feeling nothing. The decision was simple, as he took the Nightsap juice given to him.

Before drinking, memories of his life flashed in his mind, memories of his childhood on his farm with his family, that he had forgotten so long ago. Now taking a drink of the juice, memories of his time in Reinmar, the friends he made that grew into a family outside of his original home on the farm. And as he slowly drifted away, his memories were of his new friends, now wishing him dead. The last image that made it's way to his mind was everyone he knew, gathered together. Almost like a final farewell, even though he did not deserve it. As his death drew near a tear rolled down his face, before his heart stopped, his limbs and body turning cold, and his image, slowly fading away, into the darkness, as he drew his very last breath.

      OOC NOTE:
Finally, after almost three months of playing as Stein/Njal/Almer, I have finally made the decision to pk him. This wasn't the ending I wanted for him, however this is the ending I am giving him. I am taking this time to thank everyone that was a part of his life, these past three months on the server have been a blast. Stein and myself have made a lot of friends that I hope to keep and play along side them with other characters I make. So for those reading this thank you and to anyone that knows, give a salute as "The Stone Fortress" has finally fallen.

I will now take the time to thank those that have impacted Stein's life greatly @FunkehMelon @melonth @ickyNuN @confusedjester @Rocky_Wolf @SmothBM  @Irishmanmichael  and of course many more that I am sadly too lazy to actually search up and apologize for it. However though not everyone that has impacted Stein's life will be on here, I have not forgotten you and will never forget you. So thank you all for the fun three months, and I will see you all in my next lives <3!
