Greetings LOTC'rs, and welcome... to the thread?

Today I bring to you a proposal for a brand new unique shop system that I have written up today. Upon bringing it up in GM and Application Team chat, it receives positive responses - and now it's time for you, the playerbase to get to give us your view!

This proposed system will permit us to make shops work in a way that actually make roleplay sense! This includes a shopkeeper. I've put the information into a flowchat for easy viewing, you can check that our here. It will allow you to understand the plugin further.

I'll also go over it briefly here so that you can get a quick overview of it:

When a player creates a store he is asked where to place the Shopkeeper, the creates a Shopkeeper NPC. The player set's a title for the shop which displays when anyone enters the vicinity of the store. To stock up the store the owner right clicks on the Shopkeeper with an item and types the quantity to top it up with. He can then alter every aspect of the store via commands:-

  • /shop edit name <newname> - renames the shop
  • /shop edit desc <description> - changes the description (shown via /shop info) to whatever is entered
  • /shop edit item <item> <price> - alters the price of the specified item
  • /shop edit item remove <item> - removes an item from your shops stock and adds it to your inventory
  • /shop delete - deletes the store after a confirmation message, returning all stock to inventory

Now - onto the average-joe entering a store. He is displayed a message saying "Welcome to <shopname>."

  • /shop browse - allows the player to browse the store's stock, displays item name, the quantity and price.
  • /shop buy <item> <amount> - allows the user to purchase the specified item, then deducts money from the user's account.
  • /shop info - displays the message that the shop owner has chosen to display and the shop name.

When a player is not in a shop, the NPC is not in existence. When the player enters a shop, said NPC appears.

Moderators are able to delete any store, rename any store, alter any store's prices (if they're set to something like 1,000,000,000,000 minas per carrot).

Shops cost 500 minas to set up.

With this system we can actually make shops make roleplay sense (unlike in Aegis when we had vacant shops selling millions of things), and also avoid the problems for players in non-busy time-zones being unable to get goods, etc. The 500 minas set up fee can be considered as the shopkeeper's wages.

Please vote in the poll and give your opinion, post further ideas below. Please note: Selling to a store may be included if the poll results indicate it is wanted. If it is included, shop owners can decide what they want to buy, and how much.

The plugin hooks into WorldGuard meaning you can only make a shop in regions where you have permissions.

In other news, the newsletter will be out in two days time.

I like it, Danny. Nice work.

First, too.

This sounds VERY similar to what we had in Aegis. By all means - Yes. As for selling - Yes. As long as the shopkeeper decides what he buys.

Well, it is essentially taking quite a few of the aspects we had in Aegis but making it make roleplay sense via the Shopkeeper, etc. It also aims to allow more customization for the shop-owners also. It also works more efficiently, due to it's hooking into WorldGuard.

Would this be for donors only?

Likely, yes - however there is the chance it would be member only. If the later a further expansion on it would be introduce for donors, perhaps a second shop or something.

Maybe I am missing something, but i don't really see how this would prevent people from just selling literally every item needed in one shop?

I really like this, I feel as though it will be better then the previous attempts at shop plugins. That said, I am assuming that this will not be mandatory for anyone with a shop?

Perhaps a limit on the number of item types sell-able at one time, might be suited?

It would not - players wanting to run shops by hand still can.

Although the system seems a bit confusing, I would still support it as long as their was a limit on the amount of items. It is really hard to create an economy without a shop plugin. In an ideal world it would not be unnecessary, but RL does not allow people to just stand around all day selling things in a virtual world.

Edit: Also can this only work if you have perms on the land, because I recall with chestshop people made the monks chest into shops.
