Clarification On Harassment.

Hey everyone,

I have just a little rule update and clarification. I have received word that some past members of our server are being harassed on other servers by some of our current members. This is unacceptable, as we have already mentioned in several past threads that we do NOT tolerate cyber-bullying. If you are caught cyber-bullying and harassing players on other servers, whether they used to be from LotC or not, you will be banned from all mediums of LotC until you make a proper appeal and formally apologize to said member and provide proof that you did so. We do not need a select few players causing chaos on other servers and giving our server a bad name, so refrain from doing it or you will face the consequences.

Sorry for the less than happy post guys, but this point needed making. Thanks in advance for your cooperation! :)

EDIT: Seeing as there is/was a lot of confusion on this matter, I will further clarify this post. Players will be reprimanded for cyber-bullying and harassment, which is an extreme issue, it is not merely annoying people or trolling. Here is the Wikipedia definition:

'Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner.'

Cyber-bullying is not simply trying to annoy people on other servers as much as you can, it is not simply being mean so that they hate you. Cyber-bullying is acting towards them in a way to intentionally cause serious harm, and this rule refers to SERIOUS cases, not borderline offenses. We are not trying to dictate the internet, but we are trying to keep players with certain attitudes out of our community. If you still are unsure as to why this rule is and has been here, I recommend you look up Cyber-bullying and becoming fully informed on what it actually is, then you may see why this rule is in place.

I agree with this, many kids are bullied in there real life alone why should they be bullied while they are trying to have some fun on a video game?

This is something that has gotten out of control over the past year. I have heard stories of kids killing themselves because of cyber bullying. That is just wicked to think that someone hurt a person so bad that they killed themselves. Thinks need to be changed. This is unacceptable!

You're right, we can't stop people from doing this on other servers, but we definitely can discourage it by promising punishment for those on our server who decide to do it anyways. If players want to do this, they don't deserve to be a member of our community, no ifs ands or buts.

This is nothing new, it's merely a clarification. For some things, yes, players will be judged based on their actions in other areas besides LotC, and harassment/cyber-bullying is one of them. Even when we accept people to the server we often check for their name in MC bans to see what they were banned for IF they were banned, as there are some people we do not want in this community. For the same reason that we wouldn't accept a player who is known to cause chaos on servers, we will not tolerate those who cyber-bully elsewhere. Not to mention the fact that these actions CAN affect LotC if these players are tracked here, as it does not look good for us.

There's a HUGE difference between trash talking and cyber-bullying. Trash talking at worst makes someone want to punch you in the face, while cyber-bullying is actually illegal, at least in the US, and people have been seriously and permanently harmed by it. It is a big deal and this is why its boundaries go beyond our community, so those who are willing to do it are not the sort of people that we want or need on our server.
