I do not understand why half the server thinks PVP is bad. This is not a hardcore rp server all the time. You do not have to go there if you do not want to. Also, this would improve rp for body guards and such. You could hire them for safe passage through the bad lands. But, I do into think rp killing should be allowed. You should still have to do some roleplay.

Perhaps players who sumbit no-rp kill screenshots will also have to include coordinates using the F3 button or whateva it is

One problem Shiftnative, some people can't use f3.

People can not use f3? How so?

Some people have computers with many different functions for the F3 key and some will not be removed even when trying to reprogram the key's function. Such as my own on my other PC with I MUST use on the week days.

Mac users need to activate a special setting to use all f# commands or else they do special mac-specific commands.

Ah, well then the only ways around that would be to create a consensual pvp plugin for the mainland - so that it becomes impossible for players to no-rp kill there. Or turn pvp off entirely on the mainland, only to have it turned on for designated battles.

A no-RP killing zone sounds great. Regardless of what some people think, the server will not become a giant PVP mess. A large chunk of the player base won't even go near the place, as they enjoy their RP more than PVP. This leaves those who wish to do a little bit of fighting without having to type for half an hour beforehand a place to go to get their jollies.

Even if what I've said here turns out not to be true, the OP says that this is experimental, and on a temporary map. So what if you lose everything you've gathered? It's not as if you won't have to start over in a matter of weeks anyway.

Aye, that is indeed possible - but what if the badlands doesn't have many blind spots and pvp is made much lengthier? Remember, you don't have to travel to the badlands.

Unless some big system is made, 'lengthier' will just be clicking each other for a longer amount of time.

OOC mechanics absolutely promote fear, the same way they did with the undead. If players don't like getting no-rp killed or engaging in that kind of scenario they do not have to go to the badlands.

The Undead had a massive amount of RP behind it. And, in the end, it was not competitive like RP now is. Players fought through mobs to sometimes reach another player to kill, not players fighting each other exclusively.

Agreed, but if you know that going into the badlands then you wouldn't be upset about it.

Then why couldn't citizens of the nation or affected faction be rallied, confront the king and/or leader with their pleas and try and remove such groups from the protection of the kingdom?

Look at The Flay - They've existed, in some name, since early Asulon.

What you describe simply is never going to happen.

I think it could be beneficial here, considering how many disagreements happen in roleplay. If it isn't a place you're forced to go then what's the problem?

It has a great potential to be something RP, rather than something where people go to abandon RP. Rather than being some free-for-all wasteland, it could be some haunted forest filled with mobs that drives people to evil (Such as in the compromise). It could have nooks inside with hidden treasure or lore-books. My problem is that what could be something really interesting may be wasted on a place where people go to click each other, and the rp from it is limited to bragging about ti to ic friends later on.

I agree with Shiftnative above. Some people cannot use F3 so we will need a PvP protections area everywhere but on that island.

I have said this soo many times, but PVP is your OOC self clicking on a mouse to attack and hit someone with a weapon In Game. It has no link to RP fighting simply because in an RP fight there are hundreds of variables that will influence the fight.

With PVP, a 12 year old could beat a Tank because he clicks faster. Does that make sense in RP? No it doesn't.

With PVP, you don't take into account RP skill, weaknesses or strength, or any type of RP tactic. You just smash a sword OOCly reflecting your OOC skill with PVP and not your RP skill in combat.

Though in War it's the only alternative and I don't think it's bad to have the occasional War which is a relaxation in RP, it's controlled by GM's. I don't support a continual No-RP killzone in the least.

But your wrong about pvp.

A huge misconception is that all it is clicking faster.

Minecraft is made so that It's not just clicking faster, theres a certain amount of clicks you can register before the rest of your clicks start to register.

It's about dodging (strafing) and technique, its the reason why many people have been able to fight 2 or more people at once and win, aswell as, it makes powergame nonexsistant, makes things quicker, and as I and erlend said before, more fast pace, fun which is how the badlands sounds like It's being developed for and feared because there is an aspect of fear involved oocly aswell.

I disagree. PvP is in zero ways fun to myself, and obviously quite a few others. It gets things over more quickly, but so does driving over a box to open it.

And no - It does not cause fear.

When I see PvPers, I don't get scared, I just think to myself. "Ugh... those guys".

You're awfully insistent about telling people your thoughts on PvP, aren't you? It gets slightly old, no offense intended at all here...

A bit less shoving such ideas down people's throats would be good, especially because it seems like you're just saying "No, you're wrong."
