A New Leaf

Editor Ebs Telrunya sat down with Avern’len and Elorna for an illuminating interview about the state of Malinor, and what they plan to do to save us during this harrowing time.

Ebs: So, Avern and Elorna, there is much speculation regarding your unexpected resignations from your respective councils. What do you have to say on your side of the events?

Avern’len: I suppose I shall go first. Days before my resignation, I became very aggressive in trying to improve Malinor. I spoke my concerns forwardly to my council, as well as the Lower Council and Highguard. However, no one was truly receptive, it was if all government in Malinor had just... stopped. I could not hope to accomplish anything there. So I separated myself from their system, where I can hopefully continue to establish that I am different from /them./

Ebs: Excuse me for interrupting, this is after the signing of the Treaty with Horen V, correct?

Avern’len: This was after, correct. Had I been there from the beginning, I might have swerved the talks to another direction, but I worked with what had developed with Oceas and developed somewhat more beneficial terms.

Ebs: Thank you. Please continue.

Avern’len: That is all, I refused to the share the title of prince with those who simply failed to do their duties.

Ebs: So you both chose to distance yourselves from Malinor for a time, moving here to Kaedrin?

Avern’len: That is correct, I had come to know the Count and Countess of Hyrr during my travels to Abresi as well as the White Rose fort, of home of the Chivays.

Elorna: It is also the closest Orenian settlement to Malinor. We wished to stay nearby, at least.

Ebs: Indeed, it is not that far of a walk. Avern, now that you have had time to think, what are your future plans?

Avern’len: In regards to what? There are many, the broadest of which is to secure assets and support.

Ebs: Support for what exactly? Further forays into Elven Politics?

Avern’len: My claim to becoming the sole leader of Malinor.

Ebs: There is already a government, albeit an ineffective one, in what is left of Malinor. You intend to force them to seek employment elsewhere?

Avern’len: It is not a matter of putting them out of a job, Ebs. It is a matter of taking the power from those who do not use it for its intended purpose, which is to provide for the people and state of Malinor.

Ebs: I see. What things would you change if you were to take power?

Avern’len: Many things, I am actually unsure of what specifically I would not change. As a member of both the Lower Council and High Council at one point in time... I can tell you. Not many of the positions created are filled, let alone performed properly.

Ebs: This is true, I suppose. If you were in power right now, what would you do to address the quickly escalating conflict between the druids and mali’aheral, which the High Council so far proved ineffective at handling?

Avern’len: Upon my list of foreseen changed, I intend to create a new draft of edicts and laws within Malinor, to attempt to bring order to the chaos. Among these laws, there will be ones concerning magics. The Druii have a deep connection with nature, one might say it could be magical, if not Arcane. I myself as one who at one point revered the Druii, can tell you that they have long lost their chance to simply being allowed free reign. They will be subject to the same laws as all mages. Just as mages are subject to abusing the void, Duii have proven themselves subject to abusing their connection with nature. The Druii’s use of magics will be my main focus. The Mali’Aheral shall be spoken to with the intention to rejoin Malinor. With my intended support across Anthos, I will not only have myself to represent the power I intend to wield. I will be someone that they can trust to get what they desire, and if they return to the embrace of Malinor, I shall allow them the farmland they require without further hassle, as well as providing other appeasements as well, chief being among them that their culture remained untouched provided they no longer provide disservice to my realm or threaten the lives of my people.

Ebs: Well, I suppose I should include Elorna in this. Llir, what do you think of... all this?

Elorna: I think this is what Malinor truly needs, after these many decades of conflict that have persistently dragged her down. It is something, new, something brave. I also believe that the lives of all Mali will improve, including the Mali’Aheral and the Druii.

Ebs: Well, that is all the question I have for you. Is there anything else either of you like to say before we part?

Elorna: Mmm, I do not.

Avern’len: Though I intend to become the only leader of Malinor, that does not mean I am here for any malicious reason. I am here to lead you, to form you into something new, something that you can be proud of. I am here to bring Malinor into a proud new age. I am not a guest, I am not a villain. Malinor’s trees are and will always be my home, and I intend to protect them and fulfill the needs of those within them.

Ebs: Well, that is quite a lot to digest, thank you for your time Avern’len, Elorna.

Elorna: It was our pleasure llir. Van’Ayla.

A Pact Struck Between the Rose and the Aheral

In what could be seen as a stunning blow to Malinor, the Enclave of Haelun'or and the Kingdom of Kaedrin have signed the Crimson-Silver Concordat, which, among other agreements, serves as a defensive alliance between the two against the city state of Malinor. This comes not long after the Mali'Aheral of Haelun'or threatened to burn down the Druid Grove in retribution for earlier confrontations between Haelun'or and the Druidic Order, and the supposed death of Silir. In this treaty, Malinor is revered to uncivilized, and that its fall has left a power vacuum in the West. The High Council's response to this crisis has been nonexistent, and with war raging in north of Malinor, with the neighboring lands of Houses Chivay and Blackmont embroiled in the fight, the entirety of the North has been weakened to such a state that there would be little resistance if the threat coming from that direction were to act now. There have been reports that the force that Horen V united Malinor against is marshaling an army less than an elven week beyond the Northern reaches of Anthos, and if they were to move, not much would stop them from laying waste to Malinor.

The Flayed Man; A Sit Down with Lord Blackmont and his Wife, Lady Blackmont

Editor Ebs Telruya sat down with Lord and Lady Blackmont in the Dreadfort, inquiring on the status of his claim for the throne of the Kingdom of Hanseti, currently ruled by Hochmeister Mirtok DeNurem.

Ebs: Thank you for your hospitality and agreeing to do this interview Lord Blackmont.

Augustus Blackmont: The publicity is welcome.

Ebs: Your claim has been quite the cause for discussion in Malinor.

Augustus Blackmont: Has it? I’m honored. My own wife doesn’t even speak of it.

Lorin Blackmont: I didn’t think it was my place to comment, my lord.

Ebs: Well, there is not much else to discuss, other than the current state of the City-State. Which, I assure you, none of us like to discuss.

Augustus Blackmont: Yes, of course. I had forgotten our Emperor Horen’s bold act.

Ebs: Perhaps it will be for the better.

Augustus Blackmont: And what an Emperor he is.

Ebs: Indeed. However, my questions focus more on the North.

Augustus Blackmont: Of course.

Ebs: If you would not mind, my first question is, could you possibly give us some background on this conflict? Facts are hard to come by these days.

Augustus Blackmont: It happens the Hochmeister believed that this land we sit on is rightfully his. For months, he pestered me with threats and offers of vassalage, which I swept aside. Eventually, with the lowering of crown authority, I made it my personal mission to put him in his place. With war. As the conflict dragged on and casualties rose, supplies more strained, I realized that further escalation was needed to justify such a cost. And so we are at war for a throne.

Lorin Blackmont: This goes back a little further than that, though, doesn't it, my lord? Your rivalry with Mirtok is very old.

Augustus Blackmont: My wife has the right of it. Mirtok DeNurem and I have been at odds for decades. See why I married her? Such a smart, loving wife.

Lorin Blackmont: Augustus was one of the original Lords that brought Hanseti into the Empire, you know.

Ebs: I did not know that.

Augustus Blackmont: I was. Though the Hochmeister would dispute it.

Lorin Blackmont: Perhaps the reporter would like to know about that?

Ebs: Please, go ahead.

Augustus Blackmont: I sent the Hochmeister a fake letter, falsely informing him that I had the backing of all the major nobility of Oren, and that if he did not pay me riches and bribes, I would tear Hanseti asunder with war. The Hochmeister responded by insulting the Emperor, and so there really was war. The result was Hanseti’s surrender. A story not well known, and the Emperor and Mirtok would have it that way, I think.

Ebs: You would not mind if I printed that story?

Augustus Blackmont: I would love nothing more in the world.

Ebs: I see.

Augustus Blackmont: The truth must be known, of course.

Ebs: I understand there were some early setbacks in the campaign. Is there anything you would attribute that to?

Augustus Blackmont: We underestimated the Order, But, it will not happen again. One victory does not make a war, and I do not bend so easily as our King in Hanseti.

Ebs: The forces that have entered this battle are numerous and my list is incomplete. Are there any forces you wish the public to know that are allied with you.

Lorin Blackmont: Yes, Peter, the new King, is my uncle on my father’s side. The White Rose has really become one of the greatest military forces in the Oren. I couldn’t think of  a better ally against the Tuetons.

Ebs: Moving on, I take it you are quite confident that you will be victorious?

Augustus Blackmont: I will not leave the Dreadfort in Teutonic hands. In victory, or defeat.

Ebs: Unless either of you have anything else to say, that is all I have for you.

Augustus Blackmont: I’ll say this. Many men hate me, despise me for my reputation, they may be tempted to help the Order to spite me. But I assure you, once I sit on the throne of Hanseti, and and all that assisted them will be next. No matter whom they may be, or where they keep, I’ll let that be a warning. That’s all I have to say.

Cauldron Filchers

Several seeds ago, a group of humans wearing the colors of the Teutonic Order marched into Malinor with two large boars and stole the anvil and cauldron from the smithy at the front gate. They appeared to wait for some time, expecting for the Highguard to show up, however, when no force came, they left. They referred to their leader as the Hochmeister, however, there is no way to tell who actually carried out the thefts, which were also reported in Kal'Azgoth and Ager, among other places. This highlights the staggering uselessness of Malinor's current defense force, the Highguard. This could be partly to blame in the fact that high ranking members of the Highguard have been seeking funding for the Highguard, claiming that the High Council refuses to give them the funds and supplies they require to defend Malinor. Whether this is true or not, either the Highguard or the High Council is failing in its duty to protect Malinor and her people.

Execution in Salvus

After what seemed to be a botched assassination attempt, a criminal was publicly executed in Salvus this past elven week. In what can only be viewed as ironic, the execution was botched, the criminal floating as opposed to drowning. The Salvian government has claimed that most certainly, witchcraft was involved.

Fair to be Held

The management of the tavern located along the path from the Anthos Highway Crossroads to the Wilds Docks seems to have finally overcome its initial setbacks of not really knowing who was in charge to open the tavern to the general public. The grand opening will be next elven seed, and will be accompanied by a fair. Many merchants have purchased stalls to offer their wares, and other festivities will be planned. The Flagship will be there, covering the events for those unable to attend.

Dwarves Klomped

The Orcs won a small victory over the forces of the Kingdom of Urguan. Suffering very few losses, the orcs tore their way through the Legion's ranks. No territory changed hands in this battle, however, this a major boon to Orcish morale, as the clans have suffered several losses to the Knights of St. Amyas, who have somehow moved into the orcish badlands and set up an entire Kingdom in a matter of months. Even more peculiar is the Knight's abilities to foresee when the orcs will raid them, being able to bring in their allies before such attacks, even when their is no evidence to suggest the orcs will be raiding then. It has been speculated a strange form of communication known vaguely as "Skype" is being employed to gather this intelligence, though, the use of such channels to eavesdrop on orcish plans has lead to deaths among some of the prophets who use this new form of communication.

Crowley rubs his neck as he reads the paper, reading the section about the cauldrons. "When the fawk did we start stealing cauldrons? We're not that desperate....." He flicks his finger, realizing what happened. He chuckles loudly, thinking about the poor broke fools across the river.

------OOC Line----

Elene sat at home, sipping from her tea as the servant delivered the Flagship volume, as he did always so diligently, from Malinor. She smiles, reading the articles with care. Setting her cup down, she folds it up, setting it on the table as she stares into the crackling fire.

"A new leaf indeed..."

*Emanaf sits under a tree in Malinor, frowning at the paper*

"Ebs, you silly man," he mutters to himself.  "I thought you said you would print the add!  There hasn't been a better time for impact since the original treaty.  You silly silly man."

*He seems to approve of the rest of the paper, yet looks puzzled when he reads the interview with Avern'len.  He takes out a pen and circles the title, then draws a dark circle about one line.  Standing, he folds the paper and stuffs it somewhere inside his faded greatcoat, and moves on.

After receiving another copy of 'The Flagship' from a passing illusionist, Lucion sits down at a table outside the local inn, and pours himself a small glass of wine, as he enjoys the last rays of the afternoon sun.

"Ah yes... let us see what frivolous nonsense has occurred lately..."

Any high elf in the immediate area would, were they to walk towards the market district, hear a jovial chortling echoing around the area.

"What is this skype they speak of?"

((I'd also like to point out that there is no water RPly in the hanging. It is simply there to OOCly kill people. If that helps.))

Having only arrived in Malinor this elven week, he picks up his first issue of Flagship.

- Politics, politics. What else could we expect from him but promises.

Takes a big breath not believing in the words of the former Prince.
As he continues reading he reaches the article of the stolen anvil. He makes a small laugh making a small statement.

- Today an anvil, tomorrow Malinor, how things look for now.

Finally as he reads the paper, he puts them down, grabing his hoe, looking upon the farms od Malinor.
