Edict Apostates, Rogue Magi And Witches

Issued and to be confirmed by Imperial Majesty Horen fifth of his name of House Horen, by the grace of the Creator Emperor of Oren, King of Renatus and Seventis, Defender of the Faith, Protector of the Realm, Regent Eternal of the Kingdom of Heaven, Duke of Ardania, Crown Lands, Marna, Balamena, Count of Saltridge, Alnfayat, Alzlam Alardy, Hrq Rmal, Garath, and Gwent, and Most Holy Emperor of the realms.

 

To all Lords Spiritual and Temporal and all other Our Subjects whatsoever to whom these words shall come, Greeting.

 

Its is decreed by the word of the almighty and herein carried forth by our will by his wisdom and light.

 

For long has apostates, rogue magi and witches plagued our good citizens, using their sorcery to corrupt minds and bring violence, for this it is re-decreed that all good and honest citizens that possess the ability of magic, to register with the church and receive a licence to study and practice magic.

 

 

If a person is found using or studying magic without a licence, or caught abusing his ability with the licence, meaning the person is using his magic to break the law via causing violence this excludes imperial forces as that is not violence but service to the Emperor in keeping his peace, then said person is also an apostate.  

 

Apostates punishment

 

1- If a person is caught without a licence for practicing accepted magic.

 

They are to be hunted and caught they are to be beaten in public and the subjects hands are to be chopped off and burnt, his tongue is to be ripped out of his mouth rendering him mute, his eyes gouged out rendering him blind, his ears pierced and chopped off rendering him deaf. He is then to be handed to the Church to do as they please with said person.

 

2 - If a person is caught abusing his magic with a license.

 

 a- If he was abusing it via causing violence or manipulating others, the person it to be dragged in the street beaten and whipped forty times and his license revoked for a period of two years if the person is caught practicing magic after the revoke the person is to be burnt alive.

 

b- If the person was abusing it in other ways.

 

Then they are to be fined or their license is to be revoked for a period of time or the punishment can be harsher if the crime is major, all options are left to a judge to decide.

 

3- If a person is caught practicing in dark magic such as witchcraft or necromancy etc. 

 

They are to be placed on a stake, there entrails are to be ripped out of there stomach before they are burnt alive.

Maric paces up and down the bridge within the Nexus, his inquisitorial robes and armor still adorned from the previous week's duties in Kingston. A copy of the Edict in his hands, he reads it over and over and over again, almost not believing what the Creator had finally delivered to him. Justice. Justice delivered through his prophet, the one true Divine Emperor. He continues to pace, gripping the edges of the parchment so tightly with excitement that it begins to crumple and tear slightly. A satisfied grin lays across his scarred face, a mark that would forever remind him of his hatred of the menace that is magic.

 

He returns to his chambers, if only for a moment, his heart pounding and his arms shaking with excitement. Maric grabs a hammer and nail, nailing the edict to the wall beside his bed, opposite the alcove where various bloodied mage staves lay, so that he may always be reminded of his duty, both imperial and divine. Putting up his hood and gathering his sword and miscellaneous equipment, he leaves the Nexus to go carry out the Creator's will.
