The Quest For The Golden Cross

A chill ran down Eze'Kiel's back as he stepped out of the palace in Abresi. He'd just
finished pledging his allegiance to King William Horen III, who had assigned
him the task of retrieving a forgotten artifact from the ruins of the Wilds. It
was for the purpose of proving Eze'Kiel's new faith in which the quest

was assigned.

He made his way down the roads of Anthos all the way to the docks where the ship
departing to the Wilds was ready to sail. As he climbed aboard and set sail,
Eze'Kiel planned out how he would carry out this challenge and hopefully
achieve the goal of finding this lost artifact.

A day or two passed and the ship finally reached the docks of the Wilds. Eze'Kiel
stepped off and began his journey onward to find the ruins. With some help and
pointing in the right direction from settlers, Eze'Kiel finally approached the
bridge leading to the ruins. He could see the large, moss-covered buildings
standing tall above him. The clear ancientness of the ruins was apparent. These
buildings had been here for ages, and it was hard to tell if the artifact would
even still be within them.

Eze'Kiel made his way across the stone bridge, which, unlike the ruins, had remained
intact somehow. Everything seemed to be calm and still within the stone ruins.
Not a footstep of a man, not a scratching of rodent claws upon the cold rock,
and not even the flicker of an insect's wings could be heard. All was quiet,
which seemed to agitate Eze'Kiel; somewhat.

He walked towards the largest of the ruins, thinking that this would be the
obvious place that the golden cross could be. This building could have been a
church, a palace of a king, or anything of the like. Light shone through the
broken ceiling of the ruin, but within the outmost corners of the building the
darkness was still thick. The darkness was where Eze'Kiel looked first.

As he stepped into each of the darkened corners of the ruin, Eze'Kiel cautiously
placed his hand upon the hilt of his sword in anticipation of any sort of
attack, but no attack came and no golden cross was found. So it was on to the
next building.

The next ruin, though not as spacious, was immensely more darkened. It resembled
the likes of a tower. The stairs leading upward were broken in multiple places
along the staircase causing the tower to be removed as an option of
exploration. Knowing that he could not even try to search the tower, Eze'Kiel
moved on.

He searched every ruin he could see, but no luck came. Soon, he gave up hope and
made his way back across the bridge he came to the ruins from. As he left,
Eze'Kiel turned back just to check one last time that he had not missed a ruin,
and sure enough... he had.

There was a small cliff that ledge to a riverbank and within this cliff there was an
opening. And opening the what? Eze'Kiel did not know, but nonetheless, he went
to find out. As he stepped into the cavern, it was clear that it was as old or
even older than the ruins. Stalactites and Stalagmites were scattered out in
patches within the cave. As he progressed inside, Eze'Kiel could see clear
signs that humans had been here. There were paths, small statues, and even
three rooms, dedicated in showcasing the elements of Anthos; Earth, Wind, and
Fire. And lastly, there was a bookcase. A large bookcase that must have help
over a thousand books; all dusty and tattered from the ages of not being used.

But something caught Eze'Kiel's eye. It was a glimmer, and it came from in between
two, inward slanting books. Eze'Kiel stepped closer to the bookcase to observe
the source of the glimmer. He reached in between the books and grabbed a
smooth, dusty object. He pulled it from the shelf and stared at the brownish
artifact in his hand. Eze'Kiel slowly rubbed the surface of it and then smiled
with a guttural chuckle. He saw shining gold.

He took the artifact into some clothe and carefully cleaned the dust from the outside
of the now shining and spectacular cross. The length of the metal symbol was
about 10 inches and on each side, two stems branched out. It was the double
cross of the One, True Faith of Oren. It was magnificent for the eyes to see.
It was the goal of his quest and token to his new life.
