Ya RP is way to spread out. Wasn't on in Aegis but I liked Asulon lots. Old traditions are there for reasons :P. #flashmobtheadmins #15min. Liking the drawing. Would be interesting to have like shipping lanes through the island to mainland canal. It remind me of Vancouver island.

I found this quote in DevinBolt145's signature to be very relevant.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

-Henry Ford

Not that Anthos is a failure, rather what you may consider the mistakes that have been made are the failures. Three cheers for positive thinking!

To be honest...

I don't believe the failure lays with the current map.

Prebuild capitals might be the true problem.

People most easily settle in at, and are always told rp stays around those places.

And while, by pulling all the rp in one place, you keep a strong semblance of 'activity', you're also creating new problems, because of all the rp mingling through each other in chat, and people not being able to follow a conversation without scrolling back..

It also causes for an absence of distinct styles and 'cultures'.

Raevir culture would never come into existance in a centralized city.

A single conflict could easily turn into a city-wide fight, by random people joining in.

No. I do not believe the solution lays with centralization.

I believe it lays in 'specialization'. The developping of a more true character to each region, and having a 'reason' to be in those places.

Not that each city should have exactly the same things to offer, in a somewhat different background that doesn't entirely matter.

Can 4.0 be a land mass were the admins don't build all the major cities... its more fun having to build your own kingdom out of nothing.

Umm "out of nothing" seriously, at the beginning of Asulon we hardly had roleplay for week(s) and people starving. I would say prebuilt camp and basic walls as well as resources in chests for the nation. That would make both groups happy in my opinion, oh and keep up the world painting Shift.

Prebuilt capitals are necessary. Asulon didn't have them and the human capital was never finished. It sucked. Roleplay centralization makes a city more realistic, and if people are fighting in the street, well, it makes perfect sense somebody would want to break it up. Styles and cultures would never develop if there weren't people living together, would it? A single individual couldn't develop a society by himself; they need people under him.

Chat mingling with other chat is why we have the rule of "no meta-gaming." It's a part of minecraft mechanics that is lessened by the regional chat plugin but can't be done away with. I know it's annoying, but non-prebuilt cities wouldn't fix that. People would spend all their time building, and maybe around a month of roleplay time from the new map would be completely detracted from.

I am slightly confused with your "specialization" suggestion. To have a character that is well-developed and actually does something in the society? That's just good roleplay. People usually have excellent reasons to be in cities because of the roleplay it offers, which is economic, political, travel, etcetera. Specialization has no connection with cities. They can easily exist side by side and it is much easier for a character to develop in a place with large amounts of roleplay than in the middle of the woods alone.

Not a bad idea, actually. This is supposed to be somehow a migration from one continent to another. Giant citadels like Kal'Azgoth or Abresi just wouldn't exist from the get-go. That's just odd RP. Having a centralized point with some degree of construction that would be realistic to the situation may actually may a really cool way to go.

Think of the Roman village-camps that would pop up in Northern Europe, and later would be reworked and built up and out, while maintaining the same basics. That'd be some really fun RP and allow players to participate in the founding of their nations' new homes.

Also, I vote for there to be White Rose / Horen V ruins from where they landed on the new continent then all died off from plague or some ****. It'd be cool.
