Magical Mistakes: The Mana Battery

(At this point I'm just writing lore to entertain myself and add that millimetre extra of depth to overall lore...)

For long have both those bestowed with magical powers and those with none hypothesised about the so called "Mana Battery". Mana of course is an energy form possessed at least by all sentient things and is what the magic user uses to direct their power source be it Aenguldaemonic in nature or voidal in nature to do their bidding.

Were a mage capable of creating a so called mana battery they could have infinite power. After all, a mana battery would permit them to evade the enemy of all magic users— Exhaustion. For long has exhaustion been a constant source of ire for the mage or holy individual seeking additional power.

Yet why would such a construct be so impossible? Why would something that is seemingly such a 'good' idea have eluded mages for so many years? The unfortunate nature of mana is that while connected to living things it is bound to them. This mana is bound to their will and simple enough to control. However, once it is transfered to an enchantment or a mana containment cell it loses this identity.

The alterationist gets around this lost identity by tasking their mana before it is released. They give this mana the task to power their enchantment, ward or other creation. Thus the mana goes to work, drawing from their power source and slowly enacting their will.

However, a mana battery is a different story. As we have already established this mana has lost its individual identity. Once such is done the mana can not be recombined to the individual who created it, or any other individual for that matter. The tendency for the mana is to complete the magical task imposed upon it or to simply slowly disperse into the environment and vanish entirely.

Thus the mana battery becomes an impossible dream! Any mage may bind their mana to a plate of Arcarum but they shall never be able to rebind this. Perplexed by this enigma perhaps some will give up, but others no doubt will forever chase the fools gold of the battery. Forever convinced what is impossible could be done.

*tasks her mana to return to the caster when needed*

HA!

Just kidding. It's good documentation on something that is quite important to mages.

On the other hand.... Contract magic can move and use mana from another person, it's uses aren't much thought, because it can't be used to create any magic outside of the body of who the mana belongs to.

^, Likes Freya's thinking.

Mana regenerates over time, Usually a spell uses a large amount of mana, and causes exhaustion...but what if the caster choose to cast there spell over the coarse of a day, or several days even? Regenerating mana over this time while also using it.

Such magic is common place amongst groups that require patience such as foretelling the future or speaking audiences with the spirits. Monks have been known to pray for days fasting as they work mystical messages to there heavens.

Even the Summoner Hwaldar used to count the time required for summoning greater creatures by the moons it would take.

I wont take this any further and spoil all the fun, but don't give up "Hope" those who would try.
