  6. Kor'garr scowls at the missive, face contorted into a rictus of fury before he tosses the parchment to his side. The crackling roar of flames surges for a moment as the forge's fire hungrily consumes the paper, just like the one before giving details of Hook's death. "Agh dah zoggin' zkah'herz blah dat wiz 'av nub 'oner!? Dey wuld vlat ah zmwl mowz juzt azh zhinie koin, 'untyng dem lyk zport wit nub zenze uv der zo kawl'd juztyz." The grey orc glances over to the forge, a cold grin stretching beneath his heavy handlebar mustache. "Kor'garr wuld peep dem twiggiez awl vlatt'd... Agh wihl mayk dah wehpunz vor Kor'garrz nu awliez tu klomp wit. Tik tu pripare dah leetle Mowziz vor ah propah wagh..." The dominus begins drawing out some ferrum ingots in preparation for his craft.

  8. Kor'garr lets out a bombastic rumble of laughter upon hearing the news, posting his arms upon his crouched knees while straining for breath. The grey orc's bulky frame is slick with sweat from exposure to the nearby forge's roiling flames. Amidst the cracks and pops of burning fuel, the scrape of a wooden stool echoes as the metal worker finally contains his mirth. A grey-tone fist holds up a miniature fencing saber about a foot in length, the Yazgurtan still chuckling under his breath and through the thick bristles of his handlebar mustache. "Leetle bahndit mowziz ahr ulreddi duin bub'hozh tyngz... Kor'garr muzt mayk moar wehpunz agh toolz vor zmawl zneeki allaiz!"
  9. On The Blah [!] The following excerpts switch between a large, scrawling orcish script and a surprisingly legible common [!] Dah Blah iz’ag uld wey uv Ork zpeekyng agh wroightyng, azh dat komz vrum dah Uld Blah uv Krug ‘imzelf! Awl Urukz blah dah Blah, doh et iz divvrent vor eech bruddah ohr ziztah. Kor’garr ‘az bin tuld dat Kor’garr ‘az ‘eavy Blah, buht doze loike dah Gulden Rex Zhot’Rax ‘ad veri leetle acczint. The above is an example of especially strong Blah, the orcish dialect, in writing. Blah is a composite language with two main sources; Firstly, it is based on mangled common due to our thick tusks hindering the ability to pronounce words clearly. Secondly, orcish culture uses various words and phrases from the proper language of Old Blah as a way for the common orc to praise the spirits in their day to day life. Old Blah is a very obscure knowledge passed down from shamans to their apprentices, and it is quite rare to see one speaking it outside of ritual. Blah can also be seen in writing, usually by orcs who have not been taught proper reading and writing of common. Instead, they simply spell out words phonetically and ignore most rules of grammar. In either speech or text, Blah varies widely from person to person, every individual having their unique struggles with making certain sounds. It is important to note the cultural traditions of Blah. Since it is seen as a way to praise the spirits and Krug himself, Orcs will be offended by a brother or sister refusing to speak in Blah. Another taboo is for those not of Krug to attempt speaking blah in the presence of proper orcs. Such mistakes are typically corrected with a closed fist or snarl of disapproval. [OOC] On common words and phrases from Blah: Here is a list of some common terms encountered in Blah. Since old blah was a very rudimentary language, many common similes will find themselves represented by the same word. For example, the words mind, think, and know would all translate to “gruk”. Similarly, “grukk’d” could mean thought or knew, and the terms for head, thinker, or brain are represented by “grukker”. General Conversation: Ug = Hi, Hello, Hail Throm'ka = Formal greeting / welcome Yub = Yes Ukee = OK, Okay Nub = No, Not Gug'ye = Goodbye Lat = You Latz = Your, You're Mi = Me, I Agh = And Rulg = Thank you Dabu = Yes, My pleasure (Obedient, Respectful) 'Hozh = Good Nub'hozh = Bad Bub'hozh = Great, Big Body Parts: Grukker = brain, head, mind Peepurz = Eyes Zniffa = Nose Zowndurz = Ears Glok = Spit Fra = Feet Grish = Blood Teef = Teeth or Tusks (or money) Objects: Blarg = House, Home Mojo = Magic Uzg = World Goi = City Luzk = Axe O'lig = Bow Ligz = Arrow Zult = Sword Ztik = Staff Ztabba = Knife Zmazha = Hammer Zpyke = Spear Zteemiez = Redstone technology Wagh = War Votar = Hunt Peepurz = Eyes Zniffa = Nose Buurz = Dark/black Greenz = Drugs, usually Cactus Green Grog = Drinks, usually alcoholic Grub = Food Grubbins = Raw foodstuff Cultural Terms/ Occupations Iilzpak = Orcish Zodiac Hur'Mauk = Ceremonial Duel of Honor, Non-lethal Mat'Mauk = Lethal Duel of Honor Teeflyngs = Smaller bits of money Tunzantar = Tinker Zhomo = Shaman Iilzhonal = Starwatcher Haruspex = Artist Ruka = Worker, Laborer Mau'Kor = Chosen of Kor/Ancestral Historian Ztargush'Stroh = The spiritual afterlife/ "Starlit Path" Living Things Buub = Pig Brudda = Fellow Orc Ziztah = Fellow Feorc Ztowt, Gazat = Dwarf Twiggiez, Treeuggerz, Albai = Elf Zquealz, Zmawlz = Halflings Quickzpawn, Pinkeh, Zhara = Human Nuutzhara = Ascended Nubded = Undead Buubzhara = Zombie Pigman Howlur = Wolf Momo = Mother Popo = Father Rex = War Uzg Leader Wargoth = Clan Leader Kub = Child Foul Language Zog = damn Zoggin’ =damned, cursed or condemned Zkah, Zaahkah = General curse words Pushdug = Stinky Glob = Fool Git = An Amateur, Someone Inexperienced Concepts/Actions Blah = Talk, Speak, Orcish Language Gruk = Understand, think, thought Klomp = Fight, possibly ceremonial Krimp = Control somebody, Stun, Snare, Capture, Defeat Flat = Dead, Kill Wagh = War Peep = See, Look [OOC] On Orcish numbers: Orcs use a standard base ten counting system, much like the other races of Almaris. However, foreigners to orc culture can quickly become confused by the naming system for digits, where those larger than five start with the prefix of “H”. In text, the numbers are represented through a written title or a corresponding system of letters. For example, the number One or 1 would be written as Azh or I. Two or 2 would be Dub or II, and so on. The counting system can be found below. Azh = One = I Dub = Two = II Gakh = Three = III Futh = Four = IV H' = Five = V H'azh = Six = VI H'dub = Seven = VII H'gakh = Eight = VIII H'futh = Nine = IX Azhty = Ten = X Dubty = Twenty = XX Futhty = Forty = XL H’ty = Fifty = L Azh’Kint = One Hundred = C Dub’kint = Two Hundred = CC ...And so on.
  10. On The Leadership of Krug-Kind OOC Introduction: [!] The following excerpts are translated from Blah to common for ease of reading [!] Prelude: On the Volatility of Orc Leadership. It is well known that leadership changes hands very quickly in orc society, even at the cost of efficiency and keeping the community stable. At the end of the day this is due to traditions and values of Krug-kind as a ‘might makes right’ and result oriented people. If someone has an issue with any leader and garners enough support, they will be able to challenge for the position. It could be out of care for the community, differences in opinion, or even a simple thirst for power. Reason doesn’t mean anything compared to whoever emerges victorious from the challenge, for strength is all that matters. Apex Leadership Rex The Rex, aside from being the reigning leader of Krugmar, is also the voice and will of Krug for all brothers and sisters. The ultimate authority, orders given by the Rex must be obeyed so long as they follow the codes of Krug himself. In essence, the Rex is king of all orcs, the highest of honors possible. Rex only passes down through the permanent death of a previous Rex or an official challenge to Klomp for the position. Any potential opponent must be a son or daughter of Krug with honorable standing, as well as the backing of at least three members of high leadership. Dominus A dominus acts as right hand ork to the Rex, acting in his stead when the Rex is unavailable and helping keep the fine details of Krugmar running smoothly. In addition, the Dominus acts as lorekeeper and diplomat for their Rex, helping record their actions and negotiate (as much as orks do) with foreign powers so that the Rex’s big ideas can progress uninterrupted. The dominus is expected to be well versed in orcish history and law, especially the Codes of Krug. Due to the position’s authority and required experience, a Dominus is usually hand-picked by their respective Rex. It is uncommon, though not impossible, for the position to be challenged over. *High Leadership: The Council Positions *** OOC NOTE *** Grubgoth Grubgoth, the merry-maker and feast holder for Krugmar, acts as head chef and party-thrower of the nation. Their authority reigns supreme in the kitchen, and they are usually the organizer for events and celebrations within the city itself. A grubgoth is exceedingly familiar with the culture and traditions of the War Nation, having learned recipes passed down from generation to generation that even the most stubborn Olog will enjoy. Due to their unique qualities, a challenge for Grubgoth is generally held with pan and cooking fire instead of fists. For three days the competitors will forage, assemble ingredients, and prepare the best meal they can from scratch to present the rex. Whoever creates the best dish wins the position, becoming a true Iron Grubgoth. Huntsgoth A Huntsgoth, unlike the Grubgoth, leads expeditions and events outside of the city itself. Whether it be tracking down a mighty foe, searching for an ancient treasure, or seeking ancient knowledge, they are renowned for their abilities and confidence in the wild places of the world. Alongside simple hunting skills, they have knowledge of the spirits, how to bridge the gap between mundane hunt and honored ritual. The position of Huntsgoth is typically decided through a challenge klomp, like most leadership positions. Motsham The spiritual leaders of Krugmar, the motsham has reigning authority over the shamanistic traditions and teachings of ork culture. From teaching of the spirits to leading rituals and spirit walks, they coordinate the vast majority of religious practices and keep both the faith and shamanistic arts native to Krug’s people alive. The appointment of a Motsham is usually decided amongst the shamans, where their most experienced zhomo will take the place of spiritual leader. It is exceedingly rare for such a decision to be made through simple exchange of fists. Rukagoth Leader of the Worker’s Band, the Rukagoth is in charge of Krugmar’s supply chain and inventory. Whether preparing for a large project or simply setting the yearly quotas, they are the one who keeps an eye on Krugmar’s storage to make sure the War Nation can both sustain itself and prepare for the unending tide of battle Krug desires. The position of Rukagoth is typically challenged for in a klomp if not appointed by the Rex. [!] The passage below, labelled Snagagoth, is marked with a large X in charcoal, with a message scrawled in the margins in blocky orcish script [!] While it has been decided that the act of keeping snagas goes against the Honorable ways of Krug, and thus there are no Snagagoth positions (or any snagas) in the Iron Horde, for the sake of retaining our history I will let the knowledge of this disgraceful practice remain. Let us never sink so low into our bloodlust as to subjugate our fellow descendants in such a manner again. Snagagoth The Snagagoth is in charge with capturing, keeping, and maintaining snagas for the War Nation. They are the ones with final say on the duties, permissions, or consequences of any snaga, and coordinate amongst their subordinates the day -to-day handling of their charges. The position of snagagoth is always given through a challenge klomp, as any prospective leader must be able to obtain their captives through skill in battle. Targoth Krugmar’s Targoth commands the military might of the warnation, also known as the Uruk-hai… Which really means they can rally the vast majority of Orcs in existence. This honor is given to a distinguished veteran of many Waghs, one with a body honed for battle as well as a mind for tactics. Commanding the strength of Krug in this way is an esteemed privilege for any uruk, as they answer only to the Rex themself on matters of warfare. The position to command Krugmar’s military is, of course, challenged for through honor klomp. The Targoth is expected to be a peerless fighter. Wargoths Wargoths are the various clan leaders of Krugmar, and act as the voice of each bloodline in decision making for the entire nation. These leaders are responsible for keeping the traditions and culture of Krugmar alive from day to day, providing the entire nation their unique outlook on what being an Orc truly means. Leadership is usually determined within each clan through honor klomp, but different traditions and practices can exist. Yazgurtan Yazgurtans resemble the high stewards of other nations, working to make sure Krugmar thrives as a city in it’s own right. A keeper of the nation’s vaults and locks, the duties of Yazgurtan require a lot of thinking and note-taking. From orchestrating grand construction projects to managing the nation’s currency and housing, they help make the War Nation’s day to day happenings run more smoothly. Yazgurtans are typically appointed by a Rex or Dominus instead of participating in an Honor Klomp, due to the unique responsibilities of their role. Mid-Level Leadership Atisha(s) Atishas act as subordinates of the Dominus, studying the law and records of Krugmar to make sure the important knowledge of our history is not forgotten. Acting as apprentices, the dominus delegates day to day tasks and brings them to diplomatic meetings as scribes. In addition, Atishas are trusted enough to bear the honored task of collecting taxes from the War Nation’s tributaries. Atishas can either be hand picked by the Dominus or challenged for their position through honor klomp. Branch Leaders (Rukas) These hard-working orcs make up the leadership for each branch of Krugmar’s Worker’s Band. Steadfast and dependable, they manage the regular collection of resources and happenings related to their individual specializations. Mining, Farming, or even Snaga management are all maintained by the efforts of each branch leader, who then answer to the Ruka’Goth. Branch leaders can be appointed by the Rukagoth or challenged to honor klomp by a member of their corresponding branch for the position. Draagha(s) Subordinates to the Yazgurtan, Draaghas are prized for their abilities to assist in construction with their keen grukkers or impressive strength. In return for helping in large projects for the city, these orcs are shown the ropes of Krugmar’s economy and even trusted with access to the War Nations supply crates. Draaghas are either appointed by the Yazgurtan or can be challenged for their position through an honor klomp. Skowta(s) These brave orcs scour the wilderness to assist the Huntsgoth in their duties. Swift of feet and sharp of mind, these scouts excel at discovering locations of interest for Krugmar or opportune chances to rally the War Nation with the Huntsgoth’s call. Skowtas can either be appointed by the Huntsgoth or challenge for the position in an honor klomp.

The grey metalworker then paces infront of Krugmar's forge for hours, thinking furiously on how to make tiny yet properly orkish weapons with his own meaty grey fists.

  15. Kor'garr'Lur peers over the introductory paper with a questioning glance. slowly his fingers count off one by one as his crimson eyes scan down the page. "Azh, dub, gakh, futh, H..." Finally, his face scrunches up into a poleaxed expression after turning over the page and seeing nothing but blank parchment. "Oi! Wut boutz Krugmar? Duz diz awthur gruk dey kan juzt ignor dah zunz agh dawturz uv Krug?" A scoff of utter contempt can be heard before paper is tossed into the nearby forge by a grey fist.
  16. Kor'garr'Lur chuckles as he reads through the weekly blarging reports of Krugmar, remembering fondly the struggle of Elvenesse soldiers as they fled only to be struck by his arrows. "Dey ded nub pey en Teef ohr koin, zo enzted dey pey'd en bludz." He soundlessly returns to cleaning the harshly serrated dagger of his own making, letting the bundle of papers rest idly nearby the forge's roaring flame.
  17. [!] A missive would be sent out to all corners of Almaris, a scroll of dense parchment containing surprisingly legible Common script [!] Dey uv Dah Rex: Ah Celebration! [!] A colorized depiction of orcs being served by William 'Gruksmasha' Raven at the Betharuz Tavern. [!] To all brothers and sisters of Krug, and all other peoples of Almaris: There is wonderful news and reason for all peoples to rejoice this day! The War Nation of Krugmar is delighted to announce a celebration, wherein there will be feasting, fighting, and festivities for all! This is a time for laughter and celebration, for our people proclaim the veteran Azhug'Gorkil as the new Rex, leader of all those who share the honor and blood of Krug. No matter your allegiance or status, we welcome you to join us for multiple days of celebration in the grand goi of Krugmar as our Rex takes the first steps in leading our nation to greatness once more. We will feast, we will klomp, we will drink, we will smoke, and we will honor this new beginning with all who wish to attend! This event will be from the Azhty'futh' (XIV) to the Azhty'H'gakh'th (XVIII) day of the upcoming Grand Harvest! The planned festivities include: -A spiritual ritual and telling of Orcish history guided by our Motsham, the legendary shaman Murdok'lak. These rites and lessons will be held for all to witness as our new leader receives the spirits blessing for his reign. -A grand fist-klomping competition, the all new Tournament of the Iron Fist! Face off against friend and rival alike with the most honorable weapons of all, your very own fists. The singular grand victor will receive a trophy inscribed with their own name as well as the title "Ironclad of Krugmar"! This prize will also include an astounding 500 mina. Are you strong enough to reign victorious? -Time with the new rex! All who attend will be given the chance to personally speak with the rex in a casual nature. Ask questions, offer advice, pledge fealty, or even challenge him to an arm-wrestle! - For those who trust the strength of their stomach, Kor'garr is announcing a great drinking competition! Test your mettle (and liver) against various brews of increasing potency from all around Almaris in the Iron Gut Grog Slog, ending with the fabled Blah uv the Spirits itself, a drink rated over 180 proof by volume! Any winners (or the last standing contestant, if they last long enough) will not only win 10 Teef (100 mina) but have a plaque with their names mounted upon the Tavern wall for all to see and be amazed! - Opportunity in the marketplace! Whether browsing for new wares or hoping to open a shop yourself, Krugmar has many opportunities for the aspiring entrepreneur! New goods include special exports from Yong Ping and Talon's Port as well as goods from Krugmar itself. Simply talk to Kor'garr of Lur during the event for more information. -A snaga chase! Several of our snagas have volunteered to be the targets of a mock hunt, so that our guests might enjoy one of Krugmar's favorite and most traditional pastimes... -Drinking and Feasting at the Betharuz Tavern! Feel free to order exquisite cuisine made locally in the goi of Krugmar. Try a dragon egg, jerky, or even an 'orcish delight'! The aspiring drunkard will have many options for grog available to purchase as well. We invite you to Krugmar so that you might pay honorable respects to our new leader as equals, and join in on the celebrations of Uruk culture! This is truly a new beginning for the Rexdom, and because of this we welcome all guests with open arms. No matter what troubles or grudges our peoples may hold, this will be a time of jubilance and respite from the tensions of politics or conflict... Dare we say it might be an offer from our new Rex of that 'peace' you all hold so dearly, brief as it may be. In addition, it has been decided that from now on there will be no requirement of tribute to enter Krugmar, to promote hospitality and interaction between the children of Krug and all other descendants. Feel free to visit the festivities without need of payment or worries over coin! To all those lost brethren who find themselves with the accursed status of whitewash: We will also extend this generous blessing to you. During this time, and this time only, any who wish may discuss with our new Rex the reason behind their status, and if deemed honorable may begin the process of returning to the ways of Krug kind with the ancestors' blessings. For those who were raised without knowledge of the Orcish ways, we implore that you return to us and finally begin learning of your true heritage, to once more follow the honored path of Krug and his blood. With an almost manic grin stretched between his heavy tusks the orc lets out a harsh bark of laughter. "Kor'garr 'az mani wehpunz tu tezt ohn deez Twiggiez." 20. Kor'garr'Lur peers over the missive, a cold grin slowly spreading across his face as he continues to scan down the demands. The grey orc idly fingers one of the black ferrum throwing knifes he obtained from the previous raid upon the Elven capital before setting the sharpened weapon back into the polished leather pouch. He closes the clasp absentmindedly, his crimson eyes scanning to the bottom of the page. Finally, a harsh roar of laughter can be heard emanating from the forge of Krugmar, the grey orc's frame shaking with new-found mirth. "Diz wihl bi 'hozh! Kor'garr muzt mayk wehpunz tu pripayr vor diz nu wagh!"
  21. Kor'garr'Lur gently shakes his grey head, a small grin curling around his thick tusks while the orc chuckles in rumbling undertones. The scrape of a whetstone against a black, jagged war-axe of brutal orkish design echoes throughout the forge with each movement of the tool against his weapon's bevels. Setting the savage axe down with a clatter, the orc moves to open a small leather pouch and inspect the finely crafted set of black ferrum throwing knives within. "Kor'garr gotz tu admit, dey vynd bubu'hozh wehpunz, evin iv dey kan't yuze dem." With a gentle motion he draws one small blade out of the satchel, admiring the expertly shaped feather design of the throwing implements. The grey orc chuckles slightly, before stowing the blade once more. "Dah twiggiez grukk'd dat witnub Zhot'Rax wiz wuld juzt kneel over agh vlat... Iv dey nub pey dah tax ov tribyootz agh zhiniez, den dey wihl pey dah tax uv blud agh trofeez."
  22. Kor'garr'Lur would raise a brow as he peers over the missive. "Diz nuuz... Ez truly wundurvul. Wut du dey blah? 'Ahvey Northlindzgrahd!'"
