On The Leadership of Krug-Kind
OOC Introduction:
[!] The following excerpts are translated from Blah to common for ease of reading [!]
Prelude: On the Volatility of Orc Leadership.
It is well known that leadership changes hands very quickly in orc society, even at the cost of efficiency and keeping the community stable. At the end of the day this is due to traditions and values of Krug-kind as a ‘might makes right’ and result oriented people. If someone has an issue with any leader and garners enough support, they will be able to challenge for the position. It could be out of care for the community, differences in opinion, or even a simple thirst for power. Reason doesn’t mean anything compared to whoever emerges victorious from the challenge, for strength is all that matters.
Apex Leadership
Rex
The Rex, aside from being the reigning leader of Krugmar, is also the voice and will of Krug for all brothers and sisters. The ultimate authority, orders given by the Rex must be obeyed so long as they follow the codes of Krug himself. In essence, the Rex is king of all orcs, the highest of honors possible.
Rex only passes down through the permanent death of a previous Rex or an official challenge to Klomp for the position. Any potential opponent must be a son or daughter of Krug with honorable standing, as well as the backing of at least three members of high leadership.
Dominus
A dominus acts as right hand ork to the Rex, acting in his stead when the Rex is unavailable and helping keep the fine details of Krugmar running smoothly. In addition, the Dominus acts as lorekeeper and diplomat for their Rex, helping record their actions and negotiate (as much as orks do) with foreign powers so that the Rex’s big ideas can progress uninterrupted. The dominus is expected to be well versed in orcish history and law, especially the Codes of Krug.
Due to the position’s authority and required experience, a Dominus is usually hand-picked by their respective Rex. It is uncommon, though not impossible, for the position to be challenged over.
*High Leadership: The Council Positions
*** OOC NOTE ***
Grubgoth
Grubgoth, the merry-maker and feast holder for Krugmar, acts as head chef and party-thrower of the nation. Their authority reigns supreme in the kitchen, and they are usually the organizer for events and celebrations within the city itself. A grubgoth is exceedingly familiar with the culture and traditions of the War Nation, having learned recipes passed down from generation to generation that even the most stubborn Olog will enjoy.
Due to their unique qualities, a challenge for Grubgoth is generally held with pan and cooking fire instead of fists. For three days the competitors will forage, assemble ingredients, and prepare the best meal they can from scratch to present the rex. Whoever creates the best dish wins the position, becoming a true Iron Grubgoth.
Huntsgoth
A Huntsgoth, unlike the Grubgoth, leads expeditions and events outside of the city itself. Whether it be tracking down a mighty foe, searching for an ancient treasure, or seeking ancient knowledge, they are renowned for their abilities and confidence in the wild places of the world.
Alongside simple hunting skills, they have knowledge of the spirits, how to bridge the gap between mundane hunt and honored ritual.
The position of Huntsgoth is typically decided through a challenge klomp, like most leadership positions.
Motsham
The spiritual leaders of Krugmar, the motsham has reigning authority over the shamanistic traditions and teachings of ork culture. From teaching of the spirits to leading rituals and spirit walks, they coordinate the vast majority of religious practices and keep both the faith and shamanistic arts native to Krug’s people alive.
The appointment of a Motsham is usually decided amongst the shamans, where their most experienced zhomo will take the place of spiritual leader. It is exceedingly rare for such a decision to be made through simple exchange of fists.
Rukagoth
Leader of the Worker’s Band, the Rukagoth is in charge of Krugmar’s supply chain and inventory. Whether preparing for a large project or simply setting the yearly quotas, they are the one who keeps an eye on Krugmar’s storage to make sure the War Nation can both sustain itself and prepare for the unending tide of battle Krug desires.
The position of Rukagoth is typically challenged for in a klomp if not appointed by the Rex.
[!] The passage below, labelled Snagagoth, is marked with a large X in charcoal, with a message scrawled in the margins in blocky orcish script [!]
While it has been decided that the act of keeping snagas goes against the Honorable ways of Krug, and thus there are no Snagagoth positions (or any snagas) in the Iron Horde, for the sake of retaining our history I will let the knowledge of this disgraceful practice remain. Let us never sink so low into our bloodlust as to subjugate our fellow descendants in such a manner again.
Snagagoth
The Snagagoth is in charge with capturing, keeping, and maintaining snagas for the War Nation. They are the ones with final say on the duties, permissions, or consequences of any snaga, and coordinate amongst their subordinates the day -to-day handling of their charges.
The position of snagagoth is always given through a challenge klomp, as any prospective leader must be able to obtain their captives through skill in battle.
Targoth
Krugmar’s Targoth commands the military might of the warnation, also known as the Uruk-hai… Which really means they can rally the vast majority of Orcs in existence. This honor is given to a distinguished veteran of many Waghs, one with a body honed for battle as well as a mind for tactics. Commanding the strength of Krug in this way is an esteemed privilege for any uruk, as they answer only to the Rex themself on matters of warfare.
The position to command Krugmar’s military is, of course, challenged for through honor klomp. The Targoth is expected to be a peerless fighter.
Wargoths
Wargoths are the various clan leaders of Krugmar, and act as the voice of each bloodline in decision making for the entire nation. These leaders are responsible for keeping the traditions and culture of Krugmar alive from day to day, providing the entire nation their unique outlook on what being an Orc truly means.
Leadership is usually determined within each clan through honor klomp, but different traditions and practices can exist.
Yazgurtan
Yazgurtans resemble the high stewards of other nations, working to make sure Krugmar thrives as a city in it’s own right. A keeper of the nation’s vaults and locks, the duties of Yazgurtan require a lot of thinking and note-taking. From orchestrating grand construction projects to managing the nation’s currency and housing, they help make the War Nation’s day to day happenings run more smoothly.
Yazgurtans are typically appointed by a Rex or Dominus instead of participating in an Honor Klomp, due to the unique responsibilities of their role.
Mid-Level Leadership
Atisha(s)
Atishas act as subordinates of the Dominus, studying the law and records of Krugmar to make sure the important knowledge of our history is not forgotten. Acting as apprentices, the dominus delegates day to day tasks and brings them to diplomatic meetings as scribes. In addition, Atishas are trusted enough to bear the honored task of collecting taxes from the War Nation’s tributaries.
Atishas can either be hand picked by the Dominus or challenged for their position through honor klomp.
Branch Leaders (Rukas)
These hard-working orcs make up the leadership for each branch of Krugmar’s Worker’s Band. Steadfast and dependable, they manage the regular collection of resources and happenings related to their individual specializations. Mining, Farming, or even Snaga management are all maintained by the efforts of each branch leader, who then answer to the Ruka’Goth.
Branch leaders can be appointed by the Rukagoth or challenged to honor klomp by a member of their corresponding branch for the position.
Draagha(s)
Subordinates to the Yazgurtan, Draaghas are prized for their abilities to assist in construction with their keen grukkers or impressive strength. In return for helping in large projects for the city, these orcs are shown the ropes of Krugmar’s economy and even trusted with access to the War Nations supply crates.
Draaghas are either appointed by the Yazgurtan or can be challenged for their position through an honor klomp.
Skowta(s)
These brave orcs scour the wilderness to assist the Huntsgoth in their duties. Swift of feet and sharp of mind, these scouts excel at discovering locations of interest for Krugmar or opportune chances to rally the War Nation with the Huntsgoth’s call.
Skowtas can either be appointed by the Huntsgoth or challenge for the position in an honor klomp.
