Boris, now a homeless vagrant after being disgustingly evicted from his home in Drusco by a corrupt and abhorrent treasurer, readies his mind after hearing word of this declaration of aggression. He departs Alba and journeys back to Drusco, ready to answer the call in defence of his old home, and those he calls friends, should he be requested.

Metaplay: Honestly not sure how this is so different from metagaming. Perhaps it's the contrived plots that people come up with to attain power? Either way, mod/admin team need to be stricter with the enforcement of rules and do need to step in sometimes to steer the narrative. Though I would like to see a big narrative thread in the server akin to the Undead v Ascended plot back in the days of old, it seems the server has moved beyond that. Still, there needs to be a hand, or hands, to guide the narrative of the server. Something like the Kingdom of Burgundy should not be allowed to happen again. Realm mechanics: Players should be allowed to settle where they want. If another group of players want to remove them from the land they should be allowed to through roleplay. However, it has never been this way and probably won't ever be this way. People should not have to write an essay for a lair application, they should just be able to claim what land they want as long as nobody else has already claimed it. They shouldn't need to grovel and ask a realm leader for a tile in their nation. If someone wanted to create a little thieves den somewhere, high up in the mountains or in a cave, let them. If someone stumbles upon a cool looking cave and wants to make it their hermit home for a time, let them. Free build: Yes it should. Hire more mods if there is the concern of ugly builds being built. However there are already a plethora of gargantuan and ugly builds on the server and nobody seems to care. 'State' of the staff team: This one is best for the mods to answer I feel, though I doubt we will ever get a proper answer from them. It seems to me they are primarily here to sort out issues between players/groups now. Discord: Yes it is worse than TS/Skype. The power trips people go on are crazy. The back stabbing is crazy. I feel as though it creates more of a divide in the playerbase instead of uniting us. It falls to older players to try and push younger players to resolve conflict, though discords are usually ran by cliques of players that like the smell of their own farts. The ST: Lore being too boring is not the issue. My biggest issue is coming up against someone in CRP and them sending me a link to their magic lore and I have to read through all of it if I want a fair fight. This server has gone down a route of making people write essays for absolutely everything and it's ridiculous. I am not going to write a 1000 word essay to be a member of your group. I have a life. We should all have lives outside of this game. I would like to see the ST do more events like the player who was building the spooky caves and got kicked off (lol). I have heard complaints of certain groups of players receiving more ST items than other groups though haven't seen it myself so can't substantiate that claim. Yes they should be allowed in leadership positions if they create something interesting. BUT there should be a storyline, it needs to move the narrative along. Wars: Wars have always been bad and will always be bad. I don't understand why they are on a different server now when it was fine over a decade ago on the main server. It breaks the immersion. Never let anything like the Haense coalition and Pontifical State war happen ever again. Delay it if needed. Hate speech & analogies on the server: Yesterday I jumped on and said "Hail" to the marshal of Burgundy and because his title is Kaiser was warned not to say it as it may have Nazi connotations....what the ****? Yes, ban obvious Nazis and others of their ilk. But this has gone too far. When it comes to things like trans rights and homophobia, I'm sorry to say it but people have these views. There are deeply religious Americans that play on this server that grew up in the bible belt and, while they are completely mental, they are entitled to those views. Challenge them on why they feel that way, show them you aren't a demonic gay, lesbian, trans, whatever you are. It crosses a line when they are personally attacking you for what you are, but to break conditioning of people they must be challenged.

The issue isn't with the church/human roleplayers, they did what they did with the cards that they were dealt. Honestly, I can't blame them for running with it. I think most players in that situation would do the same. Not all, but most. The fault lies completely with the staff for not managing this better. Narratively we have now progressed past the point of no return. The Kingdom of Burgundy cannot be undone. The main thing I want to highlight on this subject in particular is that the way that these bans have been dealt with should not be allowed to happen again. Banning 20 people on the side of the Haense coalition and then allowing a war to start should not have happened. The way it has unfolded has been terrible for RP, and it was terrible as an addition to the living, breathing world that LOTC is supposed to be. It is clear that the server have moved beyond having a primary antagonist for players to unite against. This is now, more so than ever, a world created by it's players and the characters in which we inhabit. Banning a large portion of coalition players and allowing the story to continue is the antithesis of what, in my eyes, LOTC is meant to be.

My biggest gripe with how things have been is the enforcement of metaplay bans. The war between the Haense coalition and the Pontifical States should have been delayed until the bans were over for the Vinovians, and I say this as someone that was on the PS side. The two battles that were fought were a complete wipe for the Haense side, it wasn't fun for either side to join and steam roll or be steam rolled by the opposition. We now have another human empire that has been created, I feel, solely due to a large contingent of players from one side being banned. In my opinion this is narratively poor. I do agree that a lot of Aegis era bandits were shit tier. It was clear then, and there was a lot of push-back on people who did the "Minas or die!!!" RP at the time. Every crap bandit back then got a reputation for being a crap bandit. These, from my experience, were weeded out pretty quickly and they knew what that what they were doing was crap. The threat of a modreq usually stopped it and you could move on, and if not it would be sorted quickly by a member of the mod team, and usually these people would leave the server anyway because they can't do their lazy bandit roleplay. Banditry RP back then did have it's merits. The OG Flay's for example went from nothing but a group of bandits to a noble house entirely from aura. They were something to be feared, on the same level as the Undead. RP has evolved since the first map and it should continue to do so. My issue is that RP hasn't evolved much since I stopped playing in Asulon. It's been around 10/11 years and human RP is firmly stuck in a Game of Thrones/Crusader Kings permastate. This is stale. I have been a predominantly human player since I came back in October so that has been my experience, and my opinions have been formed from that. Dalek made a great point in the thread I created about freebuild. The server has relied on worldpainter to create their own maps. This does have it's positives in creating aesthetically pleasing maps, but it brings with it negatives too. For example node mines and an inability to actually play Minecraft. I remember in Asulon when the human kingdom completely fell apart. Activity had completely dropped off and the build was, frankly, shit. It was when Mogroka came in as Horen that things picked up. One reason is because he had the human community involved in building projects. I remember there was a huge aqueduct being constructed from a water source nearby and connecting to the city, and there were loads of people involved in constructing this. It was great for RP, not only throughout building but forming connections with people both IC and OOC, and it was great for gameplay. There is an over-reliance on building something on the build server, importing the plans from the build server and then paying X amount to build it on the main server. Players should have to go on trips to get materials. The closest thing we have to that now is running around the map visiting every mine you can possibly think of, or running around the map to get herbs. We have seen that the server can support multiple maps as we have resource island. I would be so down for a free build map alongside the new worldpainter map when the new map launches. It would give players a reason to leave their nations, go on a perilous journey to another land to secure whatever resources they need, instead of doing mining runs for the billionth time. This could be regened as staff saw fit. Hell, throw in a plugin so people can claim land in this wild, unruly new land that we'd be in similar to how the new nomad system would work. Create some points of interest for players to explore. Have mythical places with interesting rewards, have hot spots for resources like netherite that players can't lock behind 5 iron trap doors and 15 iron doors. It would create conflict focused on something other than OOC dislike. I think RP would thrive here in a place where people can get creative and let their imagination flow. You are completely right on the protection aspect. I remember the mod team having, to put it lightly, some rotten apples in there. There seemed to always be a story of inappropriate behaviour between an older person and a minor. I remember one member of the mod team reading minors bed time stories then switching to reading 50 Shades of Grey. That shit would not be allowed to happen any more, and if it did happen I feel like the person would feel far more comfortable to come forward and have it dealt with immediately, and that is an extremely good thing. I logged on for the first time in weeks on Tuesday night, and the player count was around 130 people online, when weeks prior it would have been hitting around 200. It is fine to defend your experience of this server. Yes, my post was written with rose tinted glasses on and I am clearly nostalgic of the old days. But it's fine to criticise this server too. There are valid complaints, there are things that can be improved. It is only by voicing our opinions that we can hope to see change. This server was a huge part of my formative teenage years. I made some great friends on here that I speak with to this day. I want LOTC to be great, to provide for others who are younger the experience that I had, not what it is now.

Hello everyone. I played this server back in Aegis and stopped playing on the second map. In my times as a young man I spent many days of my early teenage years running down the King's Road, being a bandit with Kane before finally ending up with the Flays for the remainder of Aegis and the White Rose for the second map. I distinctly remember spending my times immersed in the worlds that LOTC had created for my young mind to explore. I wandered far and wide, I met many different people in character (some of who I still talk to this day), all through the medium of in game LOTC chat. I would send messages to people I thought were cool and talk with them in /msg and then get their skype. We would have a skype chat of a few of us, all chatting shit and meeting up IG as we were part of a larger group. I saw nothing wrong with this as we didn't plan any nefarious plots to alter the narrative of our roleplay, or the roleplay of the wider server. I left the server for a long time, and upon being made redundant from work came back to try and grasp a bit of the excitement that this server brought me when I was a nerdy little teenage boy, sat in my bedroom grinding out hours on a MC roleplay server. I came back in October last year and played on and off. I have found my time to be much worse than when LOTC was first created. I understand that technologically (at least outside of LOTC) things have progressed since I played, but discord has done so much damage to roleplay. There was a time, many years ago, that you would have to seek out someone in game to get a job. You would interact with them, let them know what you wanted to do. They would offer you a role in their nation doing whatever job it was you wanted, if they have a place for it. Now it's all done through discord. In fact, EVERYTHING seems to be done through discord. Want to be a steward of a city? Here, join our discord and apply there. Want to make any progress at all in the group you're in? Join their discord, become part of their community and OOCly befriend them. And honestly, this shit sucks. It's not even just discord though. What's going on with the technical side of the server? I feel like it's regressed since I played 13 years ago. There are people on the forums asking for Nexus to come back. Now, I wasn't around for Nexus, I left before it's inception, but c'mon. Where is the innovation? I feel like anyone could make a roleplay server, host it on vanilla Minecraft, and they've basically got what LOTC has now. What really differentiates this server from a vanilla SMP any more? We can do less things than base Minecraft gameplay, and there's a fishing plugin. Even 13 years ago there was a plugin to differentiate races. I can't remember the specific details, but every race had an advantage and disadvantage kinda thing. Where has the uniqueness gone? Is this just laziness from the admin/mod/technical team since LOTC has not been kicked from the number 1 spot of MC roleplay? Is this because there's a large cohort of players that would be against this, preferring to keep things simple with a * or ** emote? Metaplay has also been dealt with horrendously, at least in the case of the Vinovian Company. So the admin/mod team decided it was fair to ban a load of Haense players and then let the Pontifical States start a war to take over their kingdoms? Are you crazy??? Now we have a human kingdom that has been created through no effort whatsoever because 30 of the other side were banned. How is this good for roleplay? How is this good for the narrative of the server? We've also got players who were banned for metaplay coming back to the server and taking high ranking positions in this new nation. Like what?????? How does this work?? Oh, it doesn't. Not only that, but why on earth are so many people metaplaying? I understand that this server hosts people from many different backgrounds. Whether you are disabled, neurodivergent, mentally ill, a "normie", whatever you are. But jesus christ, it's not your real life. This is meant to be fun. You don't need to be coming up with plots to get power in a Minecraft Roleplay Sever. Get a grip. If this server is the be all and end all for you then I pity your life. This server was a source of joy for me when I was younger and it's sad to see the state it is in now. I would love for it to somehow return to the state it was in when I was younger. To build upon the things it has already, not to strip them away so that the experience in bare bones, carried by nothing other than a jaded and spiteful communities roleplay. This community needs to take a long look at itself. Stop being at war with one another OOCly. Stop creating elaborate ruses to catapult yourselves to positions of power, or to topple other powerful characters. Try to have fun. There are things in life to take more seriously than a Minecraft Roleplay Server. Thanks for coming to my TEDtalk. /rant
