On one hand, I understand the OP, and similarly prefer 'western', medieval fantasy RP.
On the other hand, I can appreciate deviation from perceived 'confines' in the pursuit of a colourful world.
But on the other, other hand, I wonder what the effect of making borderline allowances is.
It seems to me that, though this is a medieval fantasy RP server "based on LotR", there are different groups coming to it for different things. On one half, 'Western' RPers come for medieval kingdoms, guilds, political power-plays, and glorious battles. Thing is, they seem to rarely interact with the other half of the server that seems to take inspiration from anime, steampunk, and/or young adult fiction for all I can tell. I get the feeling that neither will interact with the other for their disdain of what is unrealistic, and/or 'special snowflake' RP - or, conversely, what is seen as oppressively gritty and hostile, and/or pedantically held to a standard of realism.
Sadly, as long as there's no definitive standard, these groups will continue to roleplay bereft of the other. Perhaps it doesn't matter as long as they're on the server, but I believe it's close-minded cliques, not ghost towns, that lead to diffused RP and lower player-retention rates. If groups are looking for more roleplay, numbers, quality, and ultimately, fun, they should be thinking about how they can cater to, and unify, different server demographics.
