  1. Cruelly ironic were the dealings of the dark, that beings so tortured and loathed yet almighty as they would seldom be vanquished on their own terms. No less was the irony of the Ivory Prince, whose virtue prevailed his vice, yet failed to guard that fragile, trusting blind spot oft prone of monarchs. It was, perhaps, best that the dealings of Sul eluded the eyes and ears of Galahad, for how sickening was it that one so devilish and wicked as he, so comfortably lurked behind one so goodly and noble as him.

  4. hello, this is a rewrite and expansion of my previous elven translations post. the last one had many mistakes and I decided I wanted to correct what was there. elven is a broken and difficult language so I don’t expect all of these to be utterly flawless, and I’m always open to suggestions or corrections to anyone more fluent than I am I provided a column for a breakdown of each translation to both explain how I formed it, and also hopefully help teach those wanting to understand the language better. translations marked with a red asterisk* are translations I particularly struggled with and would be open to hearing corrections on. most translations are in SOV order, which is reflected in the ancient elven and breakdown columns if you would like anything translated pls comment I ran out of ideas. also sorry the formatting is so ugly Inquiry & Questions Ancient Elven Common Translation Breakdown Talonnii heynae’leh? 6. if you're not going to engage with the point you should probably turn your attention inward before being passive aggressive or waffling on applicants (for standards that literally NOBODY else is held to on the server once you're whitelisted btw) because the truth is theres several people on CT who fall into this category of poor writing quality themselves, yet never in a million years would you throw these petty twitter one-liners at them or already whitelisted players or other staff members for it
  7. and yet none of this is actually enforced once you're whitelisted. not a single whitelisted player will ever be, or has been, reprimanded for not spelling great, not punctuating properly, or writing poorly, so why do we hold applicants to these non-existent standards? also we need to be clear that I'm not talking about people who barely speak english and need a translator to play the server, obviously you need a basic understanding of english to play I'm specifically talking about players who fall into the former category of not having great punctuation or spelling or the ability to write at-length. in truth I don't really know what you mean that, "if they can't do any of this, LOTC won't be a good fit for them." why not? there's many players who fall into this category, both new and old players alike, as long as they have a basic understanding of server rules and player interaction why are we measuring things like "basic punctuation, grammar, or spelling?" I've witnessed many new players who have subpar writing abilities but are somehow more desirable to interact with than LOTCers who spend 7 minutes describing how their Azure Orbs Panned Towards The Personage
  8. I'm making the point that regardless of the pending/deny label these things shouldn't really be taken into account because of how harmless they are, not that they get "instantly denied" for them. even putting players on pending on principle, it's a gamble as to whether or not they'll even bother revising their application later on. I'm also citing the infamous "human put on pending for having green eyes" (yes literally) incident which we seemingly never got any explanation for. as rigorous point out above, players should really be tested on their ability to understand the fundamentals rather than adhere to pedantic lore standards
  9. happy to see the metagaming and powergaming questions changed, I've disliked those ones for years. I hope in the future there will be further consideration surrounding granting leniency to apps instead of denying them for things that are super harmless in nature, such as "your highlander can't be that tall" or "your wood elf can't have white hair" and instead focus on things that would either ruin the experience for themselves or others on a fundamental level, such as with the importance of metagaming or powergaming. I dislike the elitism mindset some people (not CT specifically) have about applicants and "literacy" standards people have towards applicants truthfully and I wish that leniency was reflected in the application process

  12. It wasn't long after a terse, but honest audience with the Imperial Crown Prince that Galahad would revisit this proclamation with more consideration than before. As Emperor Hadrian is to Mankind, King Kairn once was to the Elves. For all of the right reasons, they were monarchs both feared and revered, yet would go on to usher an age of prosperity for their people the likes of which only witnessed in dreams. Ever closer, the Mantle of Malin.

  18. Within the heart of some craggy, dusted dwelling lurked one Malphas, curled in a little alcove among a trove of baubles, trinkets, and stolen shiny-things. A pitiful little Zevn passed along a copy of the parchment, and fluttered away just as quickly as it had came, for not far lurked the hungry jaws of the old crow. Hollowed sockets surveyed its contents, and with the likeness of an owl did its head slant in such a way that defied anatomy. A shrill, curious sound flees it. Though few things brought thrill to its wretched, joyless life anymore, the contents of the parchment were enough to rattle from its chest a phlegm-ridden cackle. It'd smile, had it the flesh, for pathetic wars of quill and ink were enough to remind Malphas of its mortal coil. "Hur-hur," it hitched. "Bravo! Little thing scribble on paper, think will save, think will matter! Will not. Will die anyhow. Or dis-appear."
