  1. its really unfortunate that you've had such an awful experience with the server and I hope you come to enjoy it if you decide to stick around. have you tried communicating with staff about these players? lotc is a server of micro communities, and some will be less pleasant than others. kind people can be found in the right spots at the right time, just like how unkind people can be found in the wrong spots at the wrong time, though I wish we wouldn't have to say the latter
  2. I feel like as time goes on we're starting to see less and less consistent, passive RP in the activity hubs and more and more afk standing or running around in circles - I feel like every time I try to RP with strangers they're either totally afk or there's just no interest at all. I've always experienced the opposite with post-map transitions where RP seems to be at its peak, but with Braevos it still feels like we're at the end of last map when RP momentum was at its lowest. Might be really anecdotal and I could just be not trying hard enough, but has anyone else experienced this?

accidentally found this while responding to the other question. my suggestion would be to just travel, sometimes people might ghost you but i've found it easier to actually rp (even though most if the time it's short lived, because there isn't a specific plot/idea running the scene) by just kinda wandering everywhere and asking people to buy things

  3. it's really clunky and I constantly see new players asking how to get to x place and struggling to figure out how to SS. Last map it wasn't as big of an issue because last map you didn't NEED to know how to soulstone to get somewhere, but now you do which I don't imagine is great for player retention just having them be warp signs would be infinitely easier and simpler. it's also irritating having to constantly cycle through and rebind and unbind every time you want to go somewhere
  4. whats the most wholesome item you've found in a vault so far

close tie between the OOC letters that are like in-jokes and nice messages from friend to friend and the constant barrage of housemage living dolls it makes me happy that like 1/4th of the server canonically still has their plushies

  8. it would be extremely awesome if tech team found a way to re-implement seventhcircle's book plugin from atlas, I was trying to paste stuff into a book last night and it was very time consuming

  10. [!] You discover an aged booklet containing scribbles of poems and short-stories. Most are torn out, illegible and tattered, but the one that remains reads as follows in careful, clean writing. Between the marrows of human faith and reverence, some forgotten, blinkered cultures tell tales of omen and augur. Some farmhands erect scarecrows in order to ward these avians of their fragile crops, while others do it for a much lesser, paranoid reason. In some cultures, it is said that murders of crows are signs of a shift in one’s life depending on the count. The saying goes as: One for sorrow, Two for mirth, Three for a wedding, Four for death, denoting that whoever spots the murder is to experience one of these events soon. When I was a boy, I witnessed the violent, bloody death of a treacherous tax collector at the hands of the people on the streets of Dobrov. Before he died, while the people strung his body by the rope and gallows, I noticed a gathering of crows along the peaked rooftops. I asked them, “Why are you perched up there?” One of them looked at me, and said: “The trees whisper something cruel, but mankind is something crueler. When they splatter you with blood, cover your eyes and keep walking.” Kingdoms with a history of reverence for the crow are said to draw misery and death for its people. Valdev, formerly Karosgrad of Haense, can attest to the attraction of devil, demon, and their scourges: a prophecy made true by virtue of their sigil, the bad omen. However, consider the opposite, in which we bear witness to their multiple victories in the face of the Inferis legion: a prophecy made true by virtue of their sigil, the good omen. If a crow drops you a dead mouse, it means that you are being hunted by hellhounds. Should this happen, your first step should be to enter a building or small room, and pour raw salt along entrances. Miss not a grain, for these salt lines will prevent these phantom devils from reaching you until help arrives. Do not leave the room. Ensure there are no drafts that would brush away the salt. Re-enforce the saltlines until you run out. Even when all seems calm and days have passed, do not leave the room. Outside, they wait in hiding with glistening teeth and growing hunger. Your only hope is to expect the arrival of a priest. If that cannot happen, then pray. It’s a common misconception that crows are forebringers of these omens, that it is their presence that summons death and misfortune in their wake, hence why their flocks are oft called murders. They are far from such. Instead, they arrive to warn us of misdeeds and good fortune, for they soar with the gales of the ever-churning woods.
  11. there are arguably sillier things that are locked behind a paywall like the fact that if u need to pay to not have ur chat spammed by potato donations
  12. A pale man spies the parchment. He snatches one for himself, later showing it to his companions. A discussion soon follows.
  13. the real solution here is not glorifying nation leaders as an OOC position (along with their government or council buddies) in part I also think giving NLs less OOC power will contribute to making the actual RP aspect more valuable and pave the roads towards respectable leaders who pursue it for RP and not the OOC, and once u do that PK clauses don't need to be a conversation anynore
  14. I'll never trust RP to have mechanical influence because I know for a fact that as soon as you give that to things like alchemy, it's only pursued for the le epic buffs by people who don't gaf about RP and never for the actual niche or character interest. it's bad enough right now that a lot of people only use alchemy to spam potions for the mina grind, and incentivizing it through mechanics would only serve to make it more dull and unimpactful than it already is. we would see people/groups who would otherwise have no interest in this RP suddenly have an alchemy FA up within a day and it devolves into some of the most cancerous, bad-faith functions on the server alchemy is just a good example but this goes for any other niche of RP that might become codependent or even reliant on mechanics. prominent examples of these happening are when we saw a tidalwave of olog CAs come in when defender default was removed, or when bandits and pvpers only played dark elves for the speed boost
  15. It's something tech will probably fix once more players get usernames and lose number discriminators anyways I hate twitterification this username update sucks
  16. I don't know much about engorge but gilding is 99% aesthetic isn't it? It can't actually provide mechanical benefit according to the redlines and is just a visual quirk. Personally gilding shouldn't even require such a demanding creation ritual imo and I'd hardly call it "impactful" outside of, again, aesthetic flavor RP

  21. im curious to know what this entails, escalation in the sense of people not FTBing soon enough? or just as a general hot-topic on the server?
  22. you shouldn't be able to google someone's username or character name and find literal **** or their sex group because even if you argue you're "going out of your way" to search for it it can still be found by accident. especially considering the fact that it's infinitely easier to just google "[topic] LOTC" instead of combing through the hellscape of forums itself. if i want to find a player's profile page i'd be able to do it faster by just googling it and could easily happen upon someone's stash of twitter character art or w/e but witchhunting people who are discovered to consume NSFW content in a non-harmful manner circles back around to being the virtue signaling you guys spend so much time decrying because you're obsessed with being a champion of server protection and child safety. that's not even mentioning @Cloakedsphere's point that like two years ago you guys were head over heels for a certain player who did NSFW content as a young woman and would worship her in your discords but cherrypick who to hate depending on how attractive they are and what platforms they participate in or what services they provide
