      dislike how north america in particular is constructed exclusively around the car insofar as it creates this gay concrete hamster box phenomenon we see everywhere. most people on lotc and at large have never properly walked through a wood or up the side of a freezing mountain. Because the inception of the road and a variety of other factors prompted the inception of the ever expanding cancer of the urbane. 

       

      Beyond that in the urban context in a European city designed for walking you generally lived within walking distance of your residence, place of faith, of work, of shopping etc. Now you have to get in your boring shade of grey / black beige vehicle of the year and shuttle to designated consumption space 4735 or to education subunit 67859. It’s what’s encouraged this atomization that all these young people have nowadays. Where they conceive of themselves as brains in a vat without roots. Having no deep ties to place, people or culture. Beyond that there is the alienating nature of not actually ‘living’ in your environment. The environment becomes a material or a thing. Perhaps a bad way to put it but one who does not ‘walk’ the city, the town, the woods, the fields cannot truly be said to be ‘from’ them as they’ve not immersed themselves in them. They’re just existing.

    I’m all for self-policing but I think it’s something that’s very hard to enforce suddenly on the server due to there being an intrinsic ideological divide between the player-base; there are those that are comfortable with self-policing because they believe that issues will (or can, at least) be resolved at a later date and those that are not comfortable with self-policing behaviour because they’ve got a distrust in the conduct of themselves and their peers. If there is perceivable room for abuse, I don’t blame people for seeing that as a detractor. I think now is the time to hopefully have some show of force of the mod team and some subsequent competency wherein these results are a demonstrable improvement to the previous system. There are elements that people should see as a perceivable immediate benefit – no RP stalling during flubbed bandit roleplay by somebody who doesn’t want to face consequences, less of an out-of-character interference with in-character affairs, etc etc. However; until this is a demonstrated and empirical difference and improvement to the previous system, it’s relatively understandable that people’re going to be sage and cynical to such a drastic reform. Reforms have flopped before, and the risk with having ones that are both substantial and affecting the more middling minutiae of roleplay conflict is that the risks are far more palpable. It’s something that needs some duality of belief in the system (or at least some pretence of it ) to reap some pretty sweeping benefits to the server. But the space for the ball to drop is far too wide, which is something that many of the people detracting the change are far more cognizant of. It’s a sink or swim policy.

I really hope you're memeing because you've literally delineated that roleplay and reality are different things, you've said the medium is a medium for roleplay, youre saying it's a creative community built by creative people.. so we need to care about their political opinions? Lmao. Absolute fatty misnomer and pisses your point up the wall. Politics in OOC spaces isn't some transcendental topic that possesses some liminal space between RP and OOC, it's strictly political discussions in out-of-character spaces. You can absolutely have a roleplay server where you can roleplay things while also removing the yawn inducing snotbubble of middle schooler political discourse that's any OOC political discussion. That doesn't infringe on creative liberty and shouldn't reflect on the RP. If you're uncomfortable with the RP and think it's too extreme, address the RP. Simple as.

I play minebrick to play a dumb videogame, not have ptsd flashbacks of sitting in the back of 9th grade civics and trying to get my buddy to drink window cleaner while half-listening to a lecture on national service bc some 14 year old thinks that everyone!! must hear about the omg political opinion Reddit gave them that week
