Is There An Ent Equivalent To Elder Trees?

Pretty straight forward, just thought about this while looking at one. Not sure of Ent lore along with Elder Tree lore, and obviously we would have noticed a 100 meter tree walking around, but is it possible?

elder trees aren't actually massive.

They're quite thin, and logically rather short relative to the great trees that made up Luminaire (old malinor)

I believe Ents can be, at most, 50ft in height. Anything taller would be difficult to balance, with gravity being a thing and all.

An ent should have no problem balancing itself if the original tree can be balanced, gravity doesn't really matter in these cases.

But a tree does not have arms and legs. They're rooted into the ground, whilst an Ent is mobile. Gravity matters quite a bit.

Ents are not the same size of the trees... they are beings created from the elder trees actually, if I'm not mistaken (I might be). Tomorow I'll confirm or deny it, there is lore thread written on them, but I have to go to sleep.

[edit]: Got it

Creation

Ents are children of Elder Trees, trees that have become so ancient and massive that they are self aware (though do not communicate with those who cannot communicate with them). The tree produces a special seed which must grow undisturbed for a period of time. Upon which the Ent arises, and the ent protects the forest surrounding the Elder Tree. In a way, Ents are an Elder Tree’s way of protecting itself from danger.

There's actually two different kinds of trees that are referred to as 'Elder Trees' due to mixing of Druidic and Elven lore and terms. Generally when you hear about elder trees, they just mean the very large trees that are impervious to fire that most elven cities have been built in. The other type of Elder Tree is much rarer, and is used to refer to a single, ancient tree in a forest, usually the 'mother' tree of that forest. There's currently only four Elder Trees in Anthos. Ents are born from these Elder Trees, as jistuma said. While they can grow quite large, their purpose is to guard the forest, so being as tall as the elder trees you're thinking of would make that a lot harder.

Just the difference of names:

Eldertree is a name of a tree, the one used by elves on their towns.

Elder Tree is an Elder (very old) tree, they are the ancient trees which the ents come from.

Yes, the difference is very small in name. Example, is that in the eldertree forest of Old Malinor there is one Elder Tree in the middle, which is the only dead Elder Tree in Anthos.

Jistuma, could we ever have an event with a giant ent one day gone mad or something? That would be a lot of fun.

You'd have to ask Arik for that oblivions. Arik created the Ent lore and all events go to him with them.

Actually, as far as I'm aware, there are three Elder Trees in Anthos. The one in the Old Malinor area was the Druid's Grove tree, and the Grove tree is still very much alive.

As for the question:

Okay, what Jitsuma said about the difference between an Eldertree and an Elder Tree is correct. An Elder Tree is an ancient tree that is so old it has gained sentience, and it is normally the mother tree of the forest around it. Ents are born from the Elder Trees. There are three Elder Trees in Anthos. The Druid's Grove tree, one in the south, and one in the west. I believe the Southern Elder tree has produced an Ent, and then Riel'a, an Ent from Asulon, is in Anthos as well. I'm not sure if the Druid Grove tree or Western tree have produced Ents yet.

EDIT:

Jistuma, could we ever have an event with a giant ent one day gone mad or something? That would be a lot of fun.

As I said, we have two Elder Trees left that have yet to produce an Ent, so that's two Ents possible, plus the Ent of the Southern Tree and Riel'a. I'm sure something could be cooked up.

The Elder Tree in Malinor isn't the dead one, it's the old Druid's grove. The grove has already produced an Ent, which is played by Slic3man.

There are also constructs called treants, which are simply trees that druid's have 'animated' to serve some task, and are more like living tree golems. Very different from actual Ents. I suppose, with a strong enough druid, you could make a very large treant, though I'm not as familiar with how that works.

What's that giant Tree in the middle of old Malinor then? It's as big as the Druid Grove Elder tree.

Here's straight from Rittsy, our Druidic lore admin:

So, it's the mother tree of the forest, which elves tend to call Elder Trees, but it's not an Elder Tree in the sense that druids speak of them. For Elder Trees as Druids speak of them, there are three in Anthos. One of which is the the Druid's Grove tree.

There are way too many different types of elder trees <.<

Edit:
And a little more information from both Rittsy and Callax

What about the Normandor tree?  That had been called and elder tree too, I think.
