What Is Everyone's Opinion On Torture Rp?

I was thinking about delving into torturous RP. I acquired the RP and the tools leading up to it. I thought that torture was simply more enjoyable than simple killing. But it would seem people think otherwise.

I plan to make the torture more fun for the victims too. Maybe even try perfectionist style RP to add a scary vibe to the RP.

Besides the graphical content that victims can easy request toning down. What is everyone's thoughts on torture RP and why? What was bad about it? Was it players doing it wrong? How does one provide fun torture rp?

 

Keep in mind that I've never done torture before.

As long as it's not sadistic (i.e. sexually motivated). If it has a practical purpose, like trying to extort information, then sure. But getting tortured for the sake of being tortured isn't fun for the victim.

Torture RP is amazing if your character survives it. Simply put , why bother torturing them if you're just going to kill the victim? It leaves no impression IC , and no where to go from there in OOC.

This sounds very strange in this context, but anywho. 

 

I'd say, if a person doesn't want to do it... don't do it to them, simply because there is a fine line with torture RP between what is okay and what is not, and many people have many different views of that line. 

 

Simply be a courteous torturer, and don't try and make it something they have to do. The freedom of choice makes the whole thing a lot smoother.

I dunno. Always seemed to me kinda like an awkward "hurt, wait for sub-par reaction, laugh, hurt again" kind of deal. It's as fun to me as cybering, which is to say not at all. But I understand that there are people who enjoy it. To each their own and all that.

You must ask for consent before proceeding with graphic detail. If consent is not given then you can continue with the torture but with incredibly vague emotes like "straps victim to spikey chair." "stabs victims hand with knife".

 

And if they feel uncomfortable with the whole thing OOC then just kill them swiftly. Its not going to be for everyone.

To be frank it is sadistic, but not in a sexual way. More like redirecting emotional pain onto someone else in a physical way and feeling empowered about it.,

I've only had ONE good somewhat torture rp, with flays. They asked me if it was too graphic, and the noobie I was, I said 'please no graphic' and they did. I've only had another one by a dread knight that was fun, where I lost my hand. Honestly, nowadays all the villains I see are out for persona benefit, it's really upsetting. but yes, there's a line between how you should do it, doing it in a forceful way is impolite and you could scar someone mentally. 

AKA: I've only had two good situations, otherwise, I've never enjoyed other villain rp much, besides some bandit stuff I did (and, was a noob at sometimes, and was treated rudely and harassed by some players) sometimes, victims aren't willing, and pg a lot too, so it depends on who you rp with.
