Noer 577 Share Posted April 25, 2014 The Whole Of Oren Frowns Upon You. You do realize pvp default was to prevent powergaming, correct? And quite frankly, it is only a waste of time for 9 guys without armor to force Rp on 8 men with armor. Its only inevitable for the death of the 9. However, in that time, those 9 will call all of their friends on skype and then, 20 guys With armor will attack the other 8. I have seen this before, and this is the main reason for Pvp Default, to prevent the ability to Stall. Without this, people will see a lot more meta, and a lot more powergaming. This isn't about item hunger, its about rule breaking.

This isn't about item hunger, its about rule breaking. Oh God, I had forgotten about how awful the combat stalling in RP fighting is. In PVP, people can stall for a few minutes, but in an RP fight that would realistically last five minutes, people have half an hour to arrive and help whatever side. It was extremely common for me to be fighting an edgy, only for ten lesbian Elves and assassins to pass by or get called in through skype. A few times I tried explaining that the fight would realistically only last a few minutes and it'd been like 20 minutes, but they would have none of it. And in an RP fight the other day, I emoted trying to stab a guy in the back when he was turned the other way and had no idea I was there. When I did this, he turned around in MC before saying "*dodges*". Or, an even more common occurrence, emoting ignoring. There have been plenty of times where I've emoted an attack but the person kept talking through it or just faked AFK while his friends had time to emote putting on armour, and attempting attacks on me.
Ned Lud 1260 Share Posted April 25, 2014 I think people are over-reacting to this rule change. It's really just a common sense guideline to keep one or two heavily armed players from running into, for example, a guild of mages who are minding their business and in the middle of something else, role-playing the minimum shitty role-play requirement and hacking and slashing them to death because *shrugs* PvP default. This happens a lot and anyone that's ever PvPed regularly has even played a part in the offending party, let's not deny it. So what we have here it a majority vote that wins. If the group you're attacking's majority still doesn't want to PvP with you, you can always opt out of the role-play altogether and head home. No one's forcing you into a horrible ten-man, lagging, confusing role-play scenario. Why would you want a five minute slaughter with players that aren't going to enjoy it anyway? This rule change just gives the more passive groups an alternative to opt out from dealing with annoying marauders that feel they can bully the countryside on a whim. I wouldn't really want to exhaust my efforts on all these disagreements, but then I tend to find myself in like-minded company and I'll simply choose like-minded opponents and change my ways when needed. And if I'm ever the swing vote, you better get your clicker-finger ready.

Aedan The Bard 350 Share Posted April 26, 2014 What about those that, before you even start a fight go "PVP default" right off the bat without a discussion or any form of civil talk? You get a GM and ban their arse on the go.

Lvke 1000 Share Posted April 26, 2014 It was always a rule Rocket, we just misinterpreted it.... now the master elfen admin skygods will ban me ! Seriously, what the ****. So... how many other rules are you gonna suddenly 'misinterpret'? Are we suddenly going to be banned for things that are suddenly changed, or excuse me, misinterpreted? I call serious bs on this move, and now I have no way to deal with the powergamers and their roving cliques.
Aislin 4354 Share Posted April 26, 2014 From the original announcement for the change to PvP default: Just to Clarify: If both/all players want to RP fight, then that's fine. If you can't agree, it's PVP. Doesn't seem like there's a lot to misinterpret there. http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/94966-finally-pvp-is-default/

Alan 1815 Author Share Posted April 26, 2014 I love how Alan is pretending that they always meant for the rule to be like this, when for months the GMs and Admins always interpreted the rule the way it was written and so did every single player. This is just a new silly rule which will end up with 20 man RP fights. The sarcasm is not needed, unless of course you'd like to gain a warn. Don't mistake me with someone that's afraid to hand out punishment in fear of community opinions or illusions regarding "jimmies being rustled". With that being said, I'm not pretending anything. What makes you believe I have anything to gain from referring to this clarification as it is, as opposed to merely calling it a rule change? If we were changing the rule, then I would merely say "Due to recent issues regarding this rule, we are changing it in hopes that it will solve some of those issues" and the effects would be the same. Various staff members have indeed misinterpreted the rule just as the players have, but just because they're staff did you expect them to be all knowing? Various other staff members knew full well the intent and meaning behind the rule, nor can you speak on behalf of every single player in regards to this matter, so your point holds no ground. However, there's a reason this was clarified, so now those GMs do know, as do the players. Also, when those 20 man RP fights that you have predicted actually do occur, please inform me immediately, as I'd like to see such an improbable event come to pass.
