I think there need to be new people reporting the news. It's nothing personal but the things said sounded scripted (which in my opinion isn't good :P ) and un-genuine... All things reported didn't really do anything to draw me in, and the intro was a bit shabby and time wasting. I got half way through before deciding to skip through, and even then I only learned what I already knew. 

 

I know there's an issue with getting the 'now' news in something that takes a while to make. Maybe instead of calling it news you could call it something like 'Weekly Happenings' or 'Weekly Updates', as you said yourself this is mainly for players who need to catch up and may not have heard about it when it happened.

 

None of this is meant to be insulting or such, I see it as helpful criticisms in my eyes. Hopefully you all will as well. Good luck with your future projects whatever they may be.

Regarding the pilot, I thought the music in the intro was very neat and for the first few seconds I was pretty interested but I think the fact that it didn't really show anything other than a pan down a road made it a sort of lack luster intro. Perhaps something could be added and changed with every episode, be it a showcase of the newscasters and their names or a preview of what the news will show with clever titles and quick silent clips as the intro music plays (similar to how actual news networks introduce their show). 

Being completely honest, I don't really find any of the news videos interesting to LotC and after some thought, I've come up with a few reasons. The first would be the lack of novelty with the news as well as the fact that most of the stories told are often events that could be read and known about if you look at the forums. Though it is a good idea in theory, the interesting part of the news is taken out entirely when the events, no matter how important, have been explained before-hand in a previous forum post. To clarify, this is mainly regarding the server-wide event story. A way to make this interesting would be to have actual news-people go out into the server and find people who have been affected by these stories. Like in actual news, the first-person telling of what is going on as well as the drama that comes up with finding out details about a person's life after a tragedy is very interesting as well as a good attention grabbing technique for an RP community.

I cannot emphasize enough the need to make the News and the In-Game community a unit. Actual stories that will affect the outcome of role-play is very interesting. For example, say a new tavern opened up in a part of a town that needs workers. The news could then showcase the tavern, let the owner speak for a bit about what kind of environment he/she hopes will be brought about in the future and give details about where it is located. I would honestly watch the news for role-play relevant material like this. 

Also, though it seemed to be rejected before, having some sort of in-game version of the newsletter would also be an interesting addition. I wont go into much detail about my ideas here considering it was already rejected by another but it is something to think about and I wanted to let you all know that someone else thought this was an interesting idea. 

 

On a slightly more related note, I think people are getting crabby because they are expected something different from the Media Team and I supposed they did not want another newsletter even if it is replacing the old one. If the newsletter thing honestly doesn't get good feedback, perhaps something else needs to be brought to the table.

For example, maybe during the Scourge event, there could have been a sort of episodic television show type of thing or during a time without huge events there could simply be some sort of in-character show that changes however the Media Team sees fit. These would probably be rehearsed and would most likely be akin to a play of sorts that would require actors and willing people, both of which may be difficult to find, but it might be worth a shot. It would do the exact same thing the news is supposed to do, inform, while keeping the audience entertained.

 

In-Game aspects. Interviews done IC, actual touring and recording of race areas, asking the races if there are any current problems, etc. Small conflicts, political problems and even petty fights might be captured in these instances. 

With that, I wish the pilot and the Media Team luck with whatever project they plan in the future and hope that my criticism helped in some way.

Because as a news team, you represent the server as a whole. It needs to be 100% unbiased, and if it's not then it seems as if you are denouncing a group on behalf of us all. Zilldude's thing is just that: his own thing. Nobody cares if he says his opinion because he is speaking on behalf of himself, not everyone.

 

By the way, the White Rose are not back. Some of the players are back, but they have made it clear that the guild will not be remade.

You just missed the entire point of my post lol. I never said you were making jabs, I was simply telling you why it's okay for LotC With Me to do it and not LotC News.

 

And I wasn't trying to blame you for having incorrect news, was just pointing it out for future reference lol.

But, getting down to the topic, thank you all for typing my name so many times! Gives me a good read when I search "Zilldude" on the Forums (Yes, I'm that conceited). But, to address some key notes in this thread:

 

1.) LotC With Me is my own thing and not cleared by the Media Team, yet still endorsed by it. Media Team members help make it and it is used as a source of comedy from the Media Team.

2.) LotC With Me receives 0% hate from every episode. Even Sha has admitted to enjoying some of the jokes we make! And if I were to make a White Rose joke, I'd expect laughter since my show is a COMEDY.

3.) Cookies are only good when soft.

4.) My show is to satisfy both our audience and incoming audiences. Being that guy whom others send /t to asking "Are you the guy who does LotC With Me?" is an amazing feeling!

 

That is all I have to say on the matter, and I hope you all realize that my show is no comparison to the LotC-N. Mine is a comedy and going to be more popular on the sheer fact that mine can entertain instead of inform. LotC-N should focus more on informing or perhaps join forces with LotC With Me to create a show like The Colbert Report. Anyone? Eh?
