Dangers Of Order

Recommended Posts

Although the Military of Oren depends almost entirely on Levies and Military Orders, this system is one of the largest dangers internally to the Kingdom. Time and Time again, these groups of Orders and Mercenaries have caused great discord within and without the Kingdoms lands, commencing in civil conflict, aiming to empower or overthrow various powers, and generally be detrimental.

Throughout the History of Oren, there has been an assortment of famous military groups, the Tuetonic Knights, the White Rose, and more recently, the Decterum and the Lucienists. One thing all of these groups have in common, is that although they service an empire, when not in active wartime or military forays, they serve a private and self-interested schedule. What does that mean? It means, that they do not serve the Empire or it's Kingdom all the time, that they also can aim to further themselves with lands, or private goals; such as gaining more land. They are, in essence, a duchy or holding of a Military Order.

More historic examples, the Tuetonic Order commenced in a civil conflict, acting as a Duchy, not a military, and lost this conflict to the Blackmonts. The Rose damned the Empire and the Horen Dynasty, by leaving to lands, a private goal and activity. The Decterum became engrossed in slaving and other nefarious deeds, and eventually broke out into another civil conflict with the Lucienists over who knows what.

With these examples, one thing is Clear. When a Kingdom or Empire relies on Private, Land owning military orders, it is doomed to fail. The Exodus of the Rose destroyed the first empire, leaving it defenseless agaisnt the Strelts. The Civil war in Oren between the Lucienists and Decterum led to the fall of the Carrions rule, having weakened it for the taking.

How to deal with this dangerous and deadly issue, is still up for debate.

And we have the Elendils! Who supported rebellion against the Emperor in the lands of Asulon. Men do as they damn well please and will continue to do so. Your fear of organized men who thrive on times of war is deeply concerning.

Make efforts at sowing dissent once more and be hung for your stupidity.

Arnorian sighs, talking to himself. "You realize, if what I speak of was not a problem, the Rebellion would not have happened..?"

I do, if Oren did not have those you speak of, it would have been successful and it wouldn't be referred to as rebellion. To be blunt, I care precious little of your input and you've been given warning. Continue to act in this manner and suffer the consequence.

well actually the Decterum don't serve the empire they serve house Carrion, the only reason the Decterum lead to the fall of Carrion was because of one mans ambition.

I don't particularly see what you're getting at here... Or is this... the start of the next Adunian rebellion!!!!

"Elendil, you contribute nothing but mocking soldiers and trying to sneak a hand under ladies' skirts with your high-fallutin talk of manners. Write as many treatises of how to sir and ma'am like a good little Adunian, but in the field of military - you would be buried thrice over.", states Theodosius Visconti ne Nicator

"...Or you could centralize the Military to simply serve the Empire directly under one army divided into regiments without private landholdings."

"Poor author...I appreciate his effort, but who will take to his advice when he has yet to prove himself? Until actions prove his words and he has built credibility in the realm, his words mean naught."
