Stevie 1598 Author Share Posted July 17, 2014 I'm glad the winter mechanic is received positively but am also worried it will eventually become a nuisance for players if they are preoccupied with struggling to not starve every week. How about instead, we occasionally launch some kind of extended winter or locust plague that will require you to watch out for? I don't know how feasible lengthy famine is with current food expiry times, anyway, but I can figure it out. Well, announcing a sudden plague or harsh winter might actually go against your intentions to avoid people from struggling. A clear-cut and defined time of exactly when winter will set in will allow those same people you fear that will struggle time to prepare. By making it arbitrary you take away any pre-planning and that's often more dangerous (take natural disasters as an example. They're often so sudden it is impossible to react quick enough). A four week system, in my mind, is the best system (with one and a half weeks being the end of autumn and the start of winter). It allows everyone to have ample time to stockpile and prepare. And hey, if a small band or a log cabin's inhabitant runs out of food, they might decide to instead stay in a city or local town for the winter, gaining the benefits of its food (and thus encouraging more roleplay). We're not looking to encourage a famine, Sporadic, just to encourage some sort of planning behind an economy that manages larger nations, forcing decisions among the (nation's) administration. I thought the point was not being prepared thus facing hardship. Nobody saw this winter coming, after all. It wasn't an announced feature, it was just there. It wasn't an announced feature, it was just there. Yes, this is true, but nonetheless a weeklong winter would force a good decision to those who were ill-prepared. They would then have to decide where to go to survive and how to better prepare for next winter. The bottom line of this is, in my perspective: award the prepared (with food they prepared for the winter) and show that those who didn't plan that they need to improve (or not. It depends on how they choose to view their situation). It allows a lot more choices to be made for both the big nations and the smaller factions. Sporadic 2844 Share Posted July 17, 2014 All right, it shall be taken into consideration. But I will want at least 2 trial runs of such a winter before making it the norm. It has the power to annoy a lot of people.
MajesticOwyn 334 Share Posted July 17, 2014 I agree, the winter is certainly interesting. It actually created some cool role play for my clan and added to the struggle of being a small group of players. It was refreshing. +
calculusdesola 1658 Share Posted July 17, 2014 +1, the seasons are pretty cool so long as people take them for what they are rather than "wahh its winter we cant raid". Makes strategy more of a thing.

Agnub 605 Share Posted July 17, 2014 I like the seasons. Make longer now. Arguably the winter/season plugin is my favorite Nexus addition to the game.
Miquill 188 Share Posted July 17, 2014 I didn't like winter. My mobs kept despawning from it, and it's hard as hell to find mobs in the wild.
Agnub 605 Share Posted July 17, 2014 I didn't like winter. My mobs kept despawning from it, and it's hard as hell to find mobs in the wild. That's the genius of it - you have to prepare for the winter ahead of time during the good seasons.
Helbolt 129 Share Posted July 17, 2014 When seasons were suggested it was shot down multiple times, Now that its implemented people love it, I know I love it, every time I travel I almost run out of food, then have to walk the rest of the way, almost starving. Then a random Kha comes up and begs for food and we are in a moral quandary as whether to share or not, We share, and we all make it, but man it was close, Plus running is a choice with costs! Fast travel? Yes, but there goes all the food. Won't be as big of a deal in 4.0 because towns are closer but it was still fun! /ramblings...
Minniefox 16 Share Posted July 17, 2014 Well you beat me to it to make a thread, damn you! But yes I think it would add a lot, and it would make food jobs even more important!
