So I've heard before that many people dislike the idea of combat skills in Nexus. I want to see what the community's opinion of it is, and I wonder if such skills will be added in 4.0. I'm not so much proposing a system in this topic as I am attempting to get a measure on who likes/dislikes such an idea.

Either way, feel free to post your opinion below. I made this topic out of curiosity.

If you're gonna change how Minecraft works... it's crafting and it's mining... might as well improve it's swinging of swords too.

I'd say yes, go ahead, but don't treat it like MCMMO. Sure, allow someone to level up in certain traits, but becoming a better swordsman does not mean the weapon you hold will somehow become more sharp. Possibly do some things with haste that let people swing better, or give them other buffs like that at higher levels, instead of just giving more damage. A stab is a stab, and while being a better swordsman might let you get someone in a critical area, the sword isn't going to get sharper because you're more skilled.

I don't know how it would work exactly, but I would love to see extra dynamics to combat that do not interfere with the vanilla pvp system. You still run and swing your sword the same way... but add something more to it. Things I could sort of imagine being added to accomplish this effect would be combat medics, war horns, possibly small deployable barricades, and numerous other things. The combat medic could of course heal people, doesn't interfere with PvP. War horns could be an item that when clicked sends out a sort of message like... 100 blocks wide (something like "The horns of Oren sound twice in the distance" or something) this could of course be used for signalling attacks or troop advancements and give another sort of dynamic without affecting normal PVP. The deployable barricades could work much like the tent plugin, but add some restrictions (don't want them being used as an impromptu staircase of course) and just be a temporary little wall that can be set up on enemy territory. All of these things could be combat skills that you would have to learn, like the warhorns are for the "sergeant" skill and the barricades for the "engineer" and of course combat medic is combat medic.

All of these are just examples of course, but I feel there is plenty of opportunity to add to the dynamics of combat without changing its over all system.

See THIS is smart. Adding new elements instead of modifying the completely fine PVP vanilla system that is already in place. Warhorns, barricades, and all that is certainly a more immersive and unique approach to combat than just giving you a +1 attack because you've maxed your swordsmanship skill.

I kind of liked the way they used to have it where Axes were for AoE, Swords were for 1v1/high damage, and Unarmed was good for disarming. But do NOT make it where a level 1 swordsman's chat is just this:

Johnny swings and misses
Johnny swings and misses

Johnny swings and hits!
Johnny swings and misses.

That plugin that made you swing aprox 30 times just to hit 5 times was stupid. And flooded the chat. With Nexus magic, it would be cool to do some kind of dynamic to weaponry. Right now, everyone will try to get Legendary Diamond Armor and Swords come 4.0 because that's the best you can get. Why use an axe when it does less damage than a sword? Well, maybe it does half the damage of a sword, but can hit 2-3 people at once! Allies included. Didn't people used to say that we'd get stuff like Crossbows, Maces, Spears? Something to change up PvP again? Imagine people actually using formations. 5 People armed with spears moving to take out the charging horsemen. Or three 'beserkers' who flank the army with their axes and just run around hitting everyone for a little damage, to weaken them for the main cavalry charge?

I have a dream, one where we can see a 'general' organizing his army over TS. Him and his advisers standing in a small tower on the edge of the battlefield coordinating charges, retreats, and flanking maneuvers. I think a reasonable army could number in the 40s-50s, with Oren probably pushing twice that... but imagine squads of swordsmen, pikemen, mages, crossbowmen, cavalry, axemen... That would be something to get people interested in LotC again. A combat system that makes Vanilla PvP look barebones. But alas... if this hasn't already been in the works... it never will be. Just don't give us a trash system that is there just so we can say we have 'custom combat'. Nexus is the next generation of Minecraft. It's crafting and its profession system has changed how LotC works. PvP and Conflict RP is the number 1 RP on the server. Please don't ruin it with half-arsed coding and poor planning.

You already made my character who grew up on a farm a mentally deficient glue eating moron who can't pluck a carrot from the ground.

Please don't make my soldier character a braindead vegetable who can't hold or swing a sword. Pls.

Only if it's something like what Vaq made for us in Asulon, which allowed longer and epic battles to happen.
