Finally a solid answer, thank you. But possibly a dumb question, how are you going to get the plugin to tell the difference between a dungeon and a forest? Yes I realize you can use biomes...

When people wanted a magic plugin, I don't think they also wanted to say **** off to the three years of established magical lore as well.

The magic plugin was a lot of work, I realize that. You know what else was a lot of work, though? Three years worth of collective role-play and lore writing.

Druids, clerics, etc. -some of the oldest magical groups- look like they're really getting fucked over here.

This just makes LotC an even closer comparison to some MMO.

I hope there's some wood 'gems' for Druids and the like, not all mages use gemstones in their staves!

What do you mean by nature magic? Anything that involves communion or growing something permanently has been locked forever.

We strive for accessibility to magic for as many people as possible, there will of course be spells guarded by certain people with keys when necessary but as few things as possible should be clique-based. Don't be mistaken, these are still difficult to acquire. :)

This post is absolutely wonderful. Telanir, to those who fail to realize that it's impossible to code magic lore perfectly or effectively into a plugin, please just ignore them. You've done a great job and done something that a TON of us have wanted for a long time.

First, the burning questions everybody wants answered

Q: Does that mean all of my work goes to waste?

A: No, provided that you roleplayed out your magic in the past you are most likely a much more profound roleplayer than most seeking to engage in magic roleplay. People will be more willing to agree with you roleplaying powerful magic than those who have yet to learn self-control and the lore behind spells.

Q: If I haven’t learned a spell in Nexus-Magic does that mean I can’t use it in roleplay?

A: We designed this plugin to augment your roleplay and give magic a fun way to be represented through mechanics. As usual if someone disagrees with your magic prowess they can demand combat through mechanics. You may roleplay any spells how you want following the rules from this post: https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/101639-let-loose-the-magic/

I'm really glad you're not releasing the spells as books. Power to you.

this

also, maybe there could be a druid "attunement" spell (given to select druids) that unlocks druid-only magic for people? druid magic should only be accessible to those who have gone through dedicancy, not just any random dude

So druid magic is getting partially unlocked by the plugin?

Compensating old mages should be easy enough by taking into account who was a holder of an MA when they were removed. Anyone who's been using magic that long should get some sort of bonus.

No they shouldn't, and I have an MA from back then.
