  1. 1. Free-build or Capture-able locations?

    • Dungeon (There are ruins throughout that may occasionally have rewards in them!)

    • I don't like these options, I'll write my opinion below.

What is says on the tin.

 

This is a poll about how we are going to run the Badlands and integrate it into Lord of the Craft, we've got a base map going (no spoilers!) that we're about to get into heavy development on. Let us know what we'll be spending our time building.

 

What are the Badlands?

 

The badlands will be a Player Conflict focused island (or set of islands) that will emphasize on drawing players together in conflict and allow players to enjoy the Player Vs. Player aspect of LotC while doing something beneficial to themselves and their friends. This is a Completely Optional location that will have no ​Permanent impact on the main world. (E.g - we are not forcing you to perform warclaims on it!)

 

This is something that will be mainly for fun, although if 'PvP' is not your idea of fun then avoid it!

The only thing I'm confused about is the Capture Based part. Will there be teams you can join? Or do you just tell a GM that you've captured a location?

That's somewhat to be determined, it would be fortresses/Places of Interest you capture and hold. The actual mechanics will be ironed out afterward

Oh God yes I want ocean expeditions. As an owner of a trading company I'd love to go colonize islands with my workers and merchants.

You're going to implement dungeons, lore and resource islands which will ultimately draw players that don't want to pvp into the fray because

1. Its new and will be more focused on
2. It's something they can't get on the main map

Badlands is supposed to be free reign pvp, the objective will more than likely be complete control and fortifications will be built and fought over for land. Thats all it should be, however if you add dungeons which have op enchanted Bahr Bows (Heero your clan was whitewash..) and other crap it will grab the attention of rpers and pvpers alike. Focus should be put on how free pvp will be within the badlands instead of trying to butter it up to be something its not. Imo. :)

Something I personally want to see, is events held on the weekends sometimes, which will call people around Athera to come to the Badlands, there would then be an event where everyone can bring their own teams, get locked into the Badlands, and have to duke it out for the reward at the end. It could be like the Athera proving grounds!

 

 

Some ideas for the Badlands:

Essentially, one of the ideas is that there will be very little building. There could be premade forts which could be contested and the like. Another idea in addition, was the use of mines in the badlands, which when captured, would gen ores. The longer you hold that mine, the more valuable the ores will become. These are simply ideas, and we would like to hear what you want!

Really good point, overall, I kinda agree.

However, you should know, I don't think we intend to host actual roleplay events there. Event, as in a Pvp competition.

This might become another Fringe, where it was expected to be an expansion but absolutely everyone just piles into. Which I'm not entirely opposed to, the Badlands sound awesome with the idea of capturable fortresses, expeditions, and islands (what Athera should be, IMO). It might be a siphon of of activity, leaving Athera empty while everyone goes off to wage war unhindered. If the GM team wants to keep activity, they can open up the Badlands during peak times shortly (on the weekends for a few hours, for example). Players will prepare for the badlands, have their share, and then return to Athera afterwards.

What Omny and Treshure said, I can see it being a siphon for RP and make the server become more of a faction based server cause just as stated before, it will be fresh new and cool place to be with items you cannot get in the overworld. Though at the same time I can see it be very very fun and I myself would love to pvp/RP in those dungeons. Though there are a few things I will say in bullet point that I feel should be said. If a GM or anyone for that matter wants more of an explanation just ask.

 

  • Make it so there are a larger number of dungeons that can be found in Athera that can be made with command blocks and throughout or towards the end we can get some cool renamed items or even weapons. 
  • Make Dungeons in the badlands which are much harder all around but may give a better reward, though make a smaller number than that in the overworld, so only like 5
  • Make small 'factions' which can only be made with GM commands for different nations or large number of groups and then have a flag system in a way that may be capturable throughout the map.
  • As Treshure said possibly only open Badlands up at certain times in the days, like so every other day for example for 4-5 hours at a time
