  1. 1. Should Forced Conquest be implemented on 4.0?

Because the GMs want rep.

No that's just Leo. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

TBH you'd need a bigger map and a more evenly spread playerbase for forced conquest to work like it should. But then again I'm not opposed to one nation rolling over all the others to create one large empire if they have the desire and strength to do it. You can organize secret, underground  rebellions, you'd have to talk to each other and work together instead of hanging out in walled off cities and keeps. GASP

That kind of map was Asulon friendo. The entire map was divided into evenly sized regions that can be conquested by any nation for any reason. You had to conquest 80% of a nations land mass to take the capital. That was when they had a War Team specifically for this kind of situation. They were meant to be unbiased but they ended up being that so they were removed and now we have had nothing but unstable war systems henceforth.

So pissing off 4/5 of the server that has made it clear it wants forced conquest is preferable the pissing off the 1/5 to which I assume you belong?

Not going to lie, I had fears of force conquest to the idea of "Oh crap, Orens don't like competing RP hubs" Because how SOME are. But I hope if it is. Its not on this map, to be honest. This is quite small , I think a bigger map would fit better.

But my OOC other concern, coming from an plot that gets most the rp. I seem to feel that my road tavern would be targeted for force conquest. Reasons? "Damn road taverns taking all our Rp! " "They are all edgy!" "Purge! " stuff like that.

Icly, My tavern "Scarlet Lotus" or "Red Rose" we are not a military or even a fort. The tavern should be no threat to nations at all. We are like a restaurant or just a spot to relax where all the races can just come in to do whatever: Eat,sleep, relax, talk without having to feel hated. We accept every race,We give and serve anyone that isn't blacklisted from the tavern. We accept all kinds of roleplaying to a max.

There are many times we get: Trolly,Serious, fighting, event, spooky, crazy, edgy all types of roleplay events that happen at my tavern. But I can see why my place would get targeted. Sometimes my ego would go off like "Man they want to attack and war claim us or even take over my tavern because we get better RP than them, its not my fault I see nothing wrong. Sucks for them."

31.gif

From that I would come of as rather an uptight, high ego jerk really. But really its not my fault my tavern gets a lot of rolelplay than most places. I can see why nations have problems with it oocly or icly maybe. But its still not my taverns or my fault. Nations have had prebuilt cites before 4.0 was released. I was one of the builders around. My tavern was taken down and moved and I built it in one day. And still attracts a lot of people. Is it my fault it takes a lot ? No not really.

Back to my concern really and not me just talking. I worry that when this or if its in effect , My tavern would get targeted because its seen as a popular rp hub. And if the nations was to want to conquest the place without a problem like Oren of course having the most and strongest nation out there. I don't hate Oren at all but still I can still see Oren and Orcs doing that to many plots and still worry to other plot owners. Some plots might not even be under a nation but some people will either target due to ooc hate or just to mess with people. If the conquest system was done right where you need a great legitimate reason for it. Not just "I hate them" "They are edgy" "They are heretics". A good reason maybe "They have been harassing and trying to kill the king or king" "They have been avoiding tribute" Stuff like that. As my tavern is a neutral place and rather if you talk to the owners of it , We would actually have a good rp and talk it out.

Thats my thought on it

I really doubt anyone in power in any nation who wasn't an idiot seriously wanted to warclaim a road tavern. People making topics like this often point out that people might be worried about this, but, honestly, this just seems enormously paranoid.

Correct, it sucks. Most i see and hear in chats. "Lets get rid of these damn road taverns" Actually lemme look at the recent ones.

Stuff like what I am showing are reasons some plot owners on the roads are paranoid or even plot owners not wanting to be in nations.

I have no qualms with Ramza, but there's two problems with his Tavern.

1. The tavern is closer to spawn than the more popular nations, sucking all of the RP from other places just because it's closer and easy access to RP.

2. No matter how hard nations try, they can't bring activity to their settlements because of the fact that it's closer to spawn, and the fact that people go there just because it's active.

It's no different from Salvus back in Asulon and Anthos, where Salvus was the only place people were willing to go because it's closer to spawn and the fact that everyone and their cat will go there because that's where all the RP is. The only difference is that destroying the tavern(not that I condone it) would provide slightly less risk of spreading out roleplay than destroying Salvus would.

I would much rather buff raids than see conquests. I don't see raids as a thing anymore.

I'm really surprised that the nation capital of the most populated race is empty, but nonetheless it makes sense because Petrus is the furthest nation capital from spawn, and is forced to have competition with the closest settlement to spawn which would naturally have more traffic and more accessible RP. Plus no one wants to spend 45 minutes scouring the map finding settlements with activity in it.

Don't put the blame on Oren or any other settlement, because activity is not always their fault, neither is it the Tavern's fault.

Onto my stance of forced conquests

I will be okay with Forced conquests if

  • Factions are required to have significant RP/Battles leading up to conquest.
  • There is Valid IC reasoning, and not because faction X dislikes faction Y OOCly.

Forced conquests led to nothing but problems in Asulon and Anthos.

There are three settlements that I can name that were afflicted by it, and some caused nothing but OOC drama.

  • Sanctum - Where the warclaim occured without warning, and the attacking faction never once visited the place.
  • An independant settlement in the middle of nowhere(I don't remember the name, but there were statements that this was done because the settlement owner was not liked OOCly.)
  • Malinor - Where players have been found making alternate characters for the sole purpose of causing a rebellion and starting a war. Quite a number of elves left the server as a result.

To Oren: I have nothing against you, and am not paranoid that you're going to abuse your power and take over the map. Just because you say that you're not going to take over someone's house/tavern doesn't mean some ******* won't put the time and effort to make someone's day miserable. I want forced conquests to protect people from trolly and malicious behavior.

I'm going to give an example right now of why this should not be a thing.

Billy is a member of the server. Billy has fun rping and even managed to get a plot with a few friends! Things are going well for Billy, he's enjoying his time and thinking about how great LoTC is.

But alas! Luke doesn't like Billy. Might be he just doesn't like how Billy acts, might be he doesn't like Billy's build, or even how popular Billy is.

So Luke starts looking for a way he can go after Billy without getting into trouble.

Luke makes sure to alter his rp so that his character gets into conflict with Billy's. After a little while he decides he has enough to use force conquest on poor Billy's plot. For whatever reason he gets a gm to agree. Luke then gathers up a bunch of people who don't like Billy either, or who don't like Billy's plot, and gets them to fight with him.

Poor Billy gets steamrolled. He loses not only the plot but all his items.

Now let's look at Billy's choices of what to do next!

A) Billy could serve under Luke, but this might not even be an option. Luke might just want Billy gone, not to serve under him. And even if it was an option, Luke might try to force things that Billy doesn't want. So very rare that A will work.

B) Billy could start over, he and his friends could get another plot. Gather up supplies again. Once more build up. Aaand probably get steamrolled again because if Luke doesn't want it to happen he isn't going to allow that.

C) Billy could either disguise his character, or even start a new one and see how that takes him. But if Luke's problems with Billy were ooc instead of ic well... Rip Billy because he's going to have it all happen again.

D) Billy could rage quit and leave the server once he realizes he's not going to be allowed to rp.

Now I'm sure Billy will try a variety of different solutions and choices. But at the end of the day you have to realize something. Billy came to the server to rp. He doesn't want to have to constantly deal with people taking his home from him.

You might be thinking "But Grim! Billy could just move into a town!"

Well sure, but the towns have their own problems. Billy might get denied because of his race, his religion, his wife, his kids, or the simple fact that he can never seem to time it when the gate's open. Even if he makes it inside the gate he's got to then try to find one of the officials who can get him a home.

Now let's say that Billy manages to get into a town! Hooray Billy! You made it. Now just make sure you have a job or something because a lot of towns are going to tax you in some shape or form. Oh and obey the laws. And don't do anything someone in the town doesn't want you to do.

So sure, a nation trying to get people to serve (notice I say serve, and not take the land, not evict) them could be pretty cool. Could make interesting rp as well.

But people just being able to force conquest on anyone they want? No. Bad.

Oh and of course let's not forget the real reason this is even up for debate!

The current proposed system is designed to prevent situations exactly like this. To deny all RP conquest because of a bad situation that might happen is unfair on the majority of the playerbase.

Grim that is such a far fetched exaggerated situation I'm impressed that you're trying to work it into your argument. If paying taxes and obeying laws are such a problem for you when it comes to living in a city, you have other factors to blame than the conquest system.

Forced conquest is not realistic. Why? Because this is a game and to incorporate realism into it would make little sense. It basically gives a pretext for Orenian Empire #5ever even if they fall and come back. Why? Because they have the most players, and they probably always will. Why ruin others' stable roleplay with forced conquest?
