An Execution in Vydrik

A Staunton scribe would distribute his account of what happened on the 8th of The Snow’s Maiden, 1525.

Chanting could be heard throughout the opulent Northern harbor of Port Vydrik. Men, women and children shouted in unison, their discordant cries blending into a single, baleful hum as they stood expectantly. The throng gathered closely around a mound of straw whereupon a man was crucified, head bowed earthwards in agonizing exhaustion. Hurling vengeful cries towards the wretch, the crowd jeered in anticipation of the justice that was soon to come.

The Count of Westmark, Percival Staunton, emerged amidst a small retinue, marching upwards to meet the mass of onlookers. A guard of the Vydrik Watch stood near to the prisoner, in his right hand a flaming torch. He awaited command from his liege-lord, his eyes focused upon him.

Percival began to address the bloodthirsty crowd.

“Citizens of Westmark. Today justice will, as always, prevail. I do this in the name of His Majesty, King Guy de Bar. Let this be an example to all who seek to defy his laws. Any man who kills civilians and proceeds to stab men of the Church will be condemned to the fire."

His gaze would be cast towards the Dunamis soldier, clutching his death warrant as signed by Guy de Bar.

“Danis Revlis. You are sentenced to death, as per the Lexicon of Ashford for your crimes of assault, murder and robbery. I pray that the Creator is merciful upon you.”

Percival Staunton of Westmark would then give a curt nod to the guardsman, who would proceed to set the hay underneath the platform alight with a simple underhanded toss of the torch.

With the perfunctory act that sealed his demise, the crucified man could only watch as the flames beneath him engulfed the hay. The embers rapidly became howling flames, in turn scolding the body of Danis and enveloping him in a fiery radiance. Over the din of the satisfied mob, the Count and his kinfolk silently signed the Lorraine.

Justice was served.

George Staunton would sign the Lorraine, speaking softly to his brother. “If they are foolish enough to return here, they will share the same fate as their charred kinsman over there.”

"I knew they were stupid, but this...."

Percival would wonder if Britannius was still alive, foolishly fighting against the Crown.

Lillian would watch the trails of smoke rise from Port Vydrik from the nearby settlement of Nordwen, giving a slight shake of the head. The woman mumbles, "A shame our neighbours are so foolish, no doubt another idiotic act of House Staunton."

-Sits back in his chair kicking his feet up a grimacing smirk on his face he would turn to Bulter Jones before speaking-  "Teasing these fools is the easiest thing to do, I don't think they understand that we are bred to kill, and live to kill. They need to leash their kids or I'll leash them myself." Chuckles "Gather the Horde, tonight we feed."

"I question why everyone feels the need to burn normal criminals at the stake. That method of execution is reserved for heretics and their ilk, nae?" Constantine asks.

Daeron sits on his luxurious bed within the Dunamis keep, overlooking his fireplace, lit pipe resting between his lips. After spending time counting out his weekly pay from Richard, he goes downstairs, eyes half asleep still, and notices Danis coming in, singed threads dotting his uniform, but otherwise seeming fine.

"Are you alright, Danis, serjo?" He'd mumble while heading for the kitchen, its stores filled to the brim with smoked bread and grilled steaks.

"Shut up Daeron, go back to your cows." Danis replied, heading up the staircase for his chambers.

And so he did.

Gregory Therving strokes his chin, "Hardly the holy thing to do, burning a simple bandit alive. Removal of hands would have been better. These Staunton folk will surely be regretting their actions when the Dunamis are smashing down their doors..."

Father Iosif nods in approval.

"The creature that burns plunged his blade into Clergyman's flesh, my own. I commend the Stauntons for capturing the creature and sending him to his doom. To strike a Clergyman is beyond heresy, and to burn the assailant, while cruel, is the method of execution for heretics. Especially those who dare spill the blood of GOD's Ministry, who are naught but peaceful and poor servants."
