  1. 1. Would you change from Minecraft to a dedicated LotC game?

Greetings people.

I was just curious as to see how many people actually enjoy using minecraft as a platform. I know that we use minecraft, because it is the most sandbox game, that allows for various modifications. Now, without revealing too much, say there was another game/platform that was completely dedicated to the LotC universe, would people be interesting in switching to said game/platform?

No. Changing would be ridiculous.

So you're saying no, because it takes too much effort? Or because you find it impossible? Is it due to the fact that LotC has grown into a minecraft community, and changing would break it? Come on.. Work with me, you're giving me absolutely nothing right now.

I cant think of a better alternative, and Minecraft is fine. The plugins have been made already and the amount of work by the coders would be in vain if you`d change the platform. I disagree, #MinecraftLivesMatter

Ah yes, large scale combat is DEFINITELY working as intended. We can have massive battles without an issue! Oh wait...

Yeah, if there was a platform that was better than minecraft in multiple ways, I would not mind switching.

Would be interesting if it was delivered alright. However, it'd have to be free or the community would split, not to mention we get are known as a 'Minecraft Roleplaying Server' and are well known for that. Also, for me, Lord of the Craft is Minecraft and that's that. But again, I'm interested to know what you had in mind exactly.

Well, it's nothing serious at the moment, but I've been looking into some game development with the Unreal Engine 4, and I think it would be possible to recreate LotC on a more graphical appealing, and realistic platform. However, the problem lies in the Sandbox element of LotC. Stuff like creating your own skin and buildings, would become quite hard, since you're working with Blueprints and Assets. However, say that there was a large enough varity of different houses, skins and weapons, you then theoretically would be able to create a new platform/game so to say.

Well, we can look at the pros and cons here:

PRO:
- Getting a new network, which could mean that the server would not act as a **** all the time.
- If the game is actually worthwhile, it could spark new interests
- New, improved looks!
- Improved pvp?
- New ideas, new plugins, new everything.
- Getting rid of the dreaded Nexus plugin?

CON:
- Literally WW3 because of the change
- The server is on a minecraft platform for 4 years now, so changing would require A TON of work with everyone and everything.
- If the chosen game becomes heavy for the computer, LotC  is losing a lot of people (Minecraft is heavy for the computer I know, but it actually works on shitty PCs unlike Dragon Age or similar games)
-The crafting system is gone forever, no way of returning
-We are having people being negative to the current pvp system upgrade, god knows how much hate the overhaul would get.

And looking at the pic you just posted, I kinda have a feeling my pc would put me in a gas chamber...
Still, it could turn out interesting...

It's simply not needed, many people have minecraft accounts and buying a new game to move over will be met with outcry, I can easily say the same that you are giving us absolutely nothing and you receive what you give, all that's posed is "Would you rather stay with minecraft or move onto another one!" without giving any ideas of what you mean. For what you put up, it's simply not doable to the extent that minecraft is due to the high level of customizing you are able to do. Be it your skin, having completely control of it or to simply the environment itself, again having complete control. Minecraft is one of the best platforms for a role-playing community.

Besides, lets not forget the amount of work put onto the server for the past 4 years thrown into the wind purely for the off-chance that a new platform may work, if it doesn't have a 100% guarantee betterment for the community as a whole then I still say no, changing would be ridiculous.

"aha yes we can use the unreal engine"

Enjoy developing a whole game from scratch in this hardware demanding application

While I'd love to get away from ******* Minecraft its never going to happen

If asking players to download some client-side files for super fancy client-side plugins has always been condemned and not even considered, I see this being off the table too. At least, unless Mojang dies or something. Which I don't see happening any time soon.

The thing with minecraft, even if it these days would seem like a game for little kids, you have countless of options how you want to rp. But I would defiantly support a custom launcher with mods and textures. But there will always be issues with modded servers.

Of course if someone could pull off a functional custom game made for LOTC with same opportunities then hell yeah.

Let's move from minecraft to minesweeper.

I feel like if we moved away from Minecraft that'd be a technical nightmare. Like 90% of the interesting things that add to roleplay come from plugins, and even if someone, somehow, made a custom game that was purely dedicated to LotC, all of the Developer Team members would have to figure out either a) a new API for whatever game we're using, or b) the new programming language associated with the game. Not to mention managing all the data that we've got stored for LotC, good luck trying to move all that onto another platform

I doubt we'll see a change in LotC's platform for a very, very long time. Minecraft is still a popular game with a constantly updating framework (whether that be a good thing or not, is down to personal opinion) so we've very little desire to move. Quite honestly it'd do more damage than good within the long run, especially if we're moving to a third party game made by a single person instead of one with.. literally millions invested in it.

However.. Minesweeper..
