  1. 1. Would you change from Minecraft to a dedicated LotC game?

Minecraft is just way too easily customizable for our needs. There aren't many other games where you can change your appearance pixel for pixel to create an almost infinite amount of appearances.

Let's move from minecraft to minesweeper.

I second this notion

Not to mention hosting said server would cost several thousands of dollars more than it already does, and if you wanted voxel technology that's very, very expensive on the servers, putting it up there in what would probably be tens of thousands if you wanted what minecraft can do.

Also, in terms of LotC moving away from minecraft, there is no other alternative in the world, where we can move over to, and stay the way minecraft is. Even if there are amazing games in development that are amazing for roleplay, they don't have public hosting.

However, given how LotC is more about the community, I'm confident if the entirety of LotC decided to shut down, and basicly rebrand itself as a popular gaming community for one of the newer games, on launch date, it would be one of the largest groups for that game. Not to mention the explosion of people that could come into the LotC community, from the new game release.

Again, the only issue is most of the amazing games in development don't have public hosting, and modding. The only game of epic proportions coming out is Star Citizen, since there will be full on modding by the community and public server hosting. But that's basicly the only option, and switching would mean getting rid of literally, EVERYTHING in this community, all the lore, stories, characters, tech, plugins exc. and move over to something nothing like Minecraft, a space sim lol.

But I digress, I would totally support the LotC community switching over to a more fun, complete game that has roleplaying built into it, we might have to take over a public server, but even then, I feel like the moment we switch to a more platform, even for a day, no one will come back. Assuming more than half the entirety of the playerbase played on it for a while.

This topic is very meaty for a lot of reasons, but I'll keep my own post pretty simple:  If somebody took it upon themselves to make something personalized for LotC, I would TRY it.   I couldn't say whether I'd abandon Minecraft for it or not merely because I'd have no idea what I'm going into and what it would be like.   But, hey...  Why not give it a try, right?

The only thing that I could see happening, something that I hope will eventually happen is switching over to a modpack. Switching to a different game is too difficult, especially considering LOTC builders have gotten to a point in Minecraft.

God...imagine the lag if there would be a modpack...especially during warclaims...

I agree with Selu, if someone was to make a whole customized platform for LOTC, I would for sure give it a try.

But I also agree with what other people have said above, I feel like from those screenshots above, my computer would melt and form a little puddle of sadness in front of me. Not everyone has $4k to throw at getting a new computer that could handle something as intense as that. So that cuts a lot of the player base out of the picture. I don't care for people to educate me about how they can build a cheap but powerful computer. Just not interested.

I think there's a lot of risk in coding such a game. It'd take a lot of time to make and will make you feel like you're losing your mind with the amount of code to write for such a small piece of the game. And if there's any flaws, people will reject the idea of switching over and all the effort put into the game would be lost.

If Lord of the Craft moved to another platform, I might look into it but chances are I'd end up finding a new community to join. I enjoy minecraft as a role play medium. There is so much you can do with it, especially if you have a group of people capable of writing code for plugins. With minecraft, you can sculpt the entire world as a player so long as you have permissions to a given area. With a game like this, that wouldn't be as possible.

Not to mention, my computer couldn't run that. I can't even run minecraft on its lowest settings without optifine, and with optifine I have to run it on all the lowest settings ontop of 15 - 20 FPS limit. Nearly all the games on my computer I cannot run, and if Lord of the Craft switched mediums, I wouldn't be able to follow it. I'm a grown man, I have an income, but I also have priorities and getting a new computer so I could stay in an online community? Not one of them.
