A Righteous Petition

Addressed to John Frederick Horen, Holy Orenian Emperor

We Lords of Orenia have felt the oppressive sting of the presumptuous Church of the Canon under Everard II for years now, and refuse to stand for their divine proclamations any longer.

It is the right of a Lord to rule his people, and establish law in his land; not the Church. The Church, however, has established laws they claim to be of divine nature. No man can maintain law in his own land while the Church claims to enforce the law of God in that very land.

The Emperor can not act without the support of we noblemen, and so know that we ask for your action in this with the utmost desire to see freedom to practice separately from the Church be granted. While we love and respect our Emperor above all rulers before, we beseech him to act, and wait no longer.

Our great Emperor, we seek to henceforth instate ‘cuius regio eius religio,' and Free Investiture. We do this only at your behest. We beg of you, act righteously, and know we act to please and protect none but God and our Mother Nation.

~ Otto Sarkozy, Duke of Carnatia
~ Jan Kovacs, Count of Kvaz
~ Adrian de Bar, Count of Drusco
~ Bryce Vimmark, Viscount of Alamar

Arthur Roswell, Count of Pompourelia

We invite all the Lords of Orenia to add their name to our petition, so that the Emperor may know our unity on this matter.

Sighs reading the document, "A needless reform over the proclamation of divinity? Is this even a reform or a petition for the most arbitrary law in the canon? Every lord in this petition holds some unsatiable avarice towards the Church. Not only will this system of Free Investure be abused it will be set as a precedent for any corrupt lord of our time to twist and deform the system of free investure for their malicious intents."

The old Publius hears of this, and nearly weeps in his poor state. His mind already swimming with illness that has consumed him over the past year or so, his condition worsens in his worry over the issue.

As this word reaches the man called Caspar Bracchus, he swiftly looks down, sighing, shaking his head. "Hopefully this petition will not be accepted."

"Reformism? That is not what I signed for." Otto Sarkozy grunts out, tapping his finger upon the table.

TO OUR BELOVED SUBJECTS,

For the good of Our realm, Our integrity, Our conscience and Our faith, Our Imperial Crown cannot and will not accept this petition. To level such requests upon the Emperor, whose power comes from GOD, is thoroughly condemnable, and all those signatories who seek to subvert the Imperial Authority by doing so shall become the subject of Our most earnest suspicions. While such written words do most brutally hurt and wound the sentiment of Our person, that We are a dear friend and ally to His Holiness, who We shall defend until death (So help Us GOD) We do acknowledge the gross excesses, abuses, and immense oversteps of jurisdiction practiced by several such Pontifical agents buried in the midst of the Pentarchy and Inquisition, who We shall not name nor accuse publicly at the minute but for Our Love for Everard Secundus, the Holy Person.

To address such corruption, We do hereby summon James Turnbull, who We promise safe conduct and immunity from detainment, to the second Diet of Metz, to be held at the castle of Dour Watch, hosted by the Duke Philip of Istria. We also summon the representatives of the Church of the Canon, and the signatories of this document, to the assembly. There Our Imperial Crown shall hear the cases of the faithful and adopt a binding resolution on the matter of corruption, abuse of power,  'Reformist doctrines' and ecclesiastical jurisdictions.

IN NOMINE DEI,

Signed,

2nd of the First Seed, the Year of Our Lord 1534

His Imperial Majesty John I Frederick of the House of Horen, by the Grace of GOD, Holy Orenian Emperor and rightful Emperor of Aeldin, forever August, Apostolic King in Oren, of Savoy, Westphalia, Kaedrin, Haense, Renatus and Salvus, Defender of the Faith, Grand Duke of Kaedrin, Duke of the Crownlands, Carimea, Erochland, Kingston and Leone, Margrave of Greater Kreden, Count of Felsen, Louvain, Beauclair, Wett and Metz, Sovereign of Humanity and Protector of the Elves, etcetera.

My Lords, I write to you with fervent apology in hand. I made swift yet non-essential changes to the wording. Free Investiture is a direct compromise of the Canonist Faith, and wholly against it's dogma. Instead, 'cuius regio eios religio' gives each lord the capacity to practice according to the beliefs of themselves or their people. However, I will return the petition to its original form, for I made these alterations without your consultation believing it to be non-essential do to its arbitrary changes of wording.

Additionally, I accept the Emperor's suggestion of Diet, and will attend if such safe passage is truly upheld.

Jimena Snow, bastard daughter of John Frederick I of House Horen signs his name on the petition. Her writing is very flamboyant.

"A great cause, I agree!"
