If I take a student now, will I have to wait 4 months (when they're able to make a TA) for a new slot to open up? Can one student slot be used to teach someone 3 magics and still have it only count as 1 student, or does that bring it up to 3 slots used? How are you going to keep track of this all? Is the 5 student cap per character who can teach or overall player? As in, if I have two characters with TAs, will I still be locked at 5 for both or would I have 10 slots?

The screenshots are a necessary component for self-teaching to ensure the person is learning the magic properly. It is an improvement upon the system of allowing no one to self-teach.

I'm not a fan of illusion and transfiguration being self-teachable. Both of them quite wide in scope and I think they'd raise issue being self-taught.

I would have to agree with Rel and the many others on this one but besides that.... Here Tsu.... Have an Upvote, brilliant job my friend. Self taught magic will definitely/hopefully increase the amount of people who use these magics, which is a huge positive to this new system. Well Done... Well done Indeed. +1

I thought we were assured that the MAT would be a simpler organization than the old MAT, purely existing for documentation purposes, and when necessary, blacklisting. Where did all this rigourous moderation and weekly screenshot come from? Seems like we're getting closer and closer to the old days of super control, which is something we were told would not happen.

Is this some sneaky sneak way to bring the old MAT back? Moderation is good, but don't be too restricted or turn into the overlords of magic (aka the old MAT that everybody hated), it's a minecraft roleplay server and not a forum server, just keep that in mind and everyone is a happy cupcake.

You speak too much sense, magic privileges revoked.

MAT has been "bringing the old MAT back" since it was first created 6 months ago.

Going to assume Fi is not self-teachable, but it's not on the list.

As stated on another thread. It would be a good idea to allow one non combat magic that doesn't take a slot. The reason magics don't really use magics like cognitism is due to it not having any purpose during combat, moreso being a research magic.

MAT just make LOTC boring. I never feel like mages are special, only that they put a lot of time into writing papers and kissing up to someone to teach them. Just not fun. Can we get rid of them now kthnxbai.

Can we get an MAT to respond and justify why illusion and transfiguration are allowed to be self-taught?

When I spoke with an MAT regarding it, they simply didn't have enough knowledge of illusion to realise the issue. You don't always see the complexity unless you actually understand the magic, which is exactly why there were so many problems with illusion when players could do it without being taught how.

A fan of the return of self-teaching, not really much else. Screenshots aren't a good way to verify someone knows how to use the magic, it just gets you five boring screens of magic done without anyone else around, which frankly you'll stop keeping track of once you have a few self-teaching people. Have the person explain the magic OOC'ly before accepting the MA, and if they don't know it, explain it to them. That way rather than getting BS screenshots, you ensure they understand how the magic works.

Also, why are voidal shifting and arcanism not self-teachable? Like I don't really want folks to self-teach voidal shifting, but if the means to learn about it on your own gets out there, it totally should be. And there are books about arcanism available publicly, so that should be self-teachable as well.

One step forward and one step back. Interesting to see how this works out.
