The Akritian Culture

 

History:

  The Akritian is the culture name forged by House Palaiologos, the house in charge of Nikae, or previously known as Kraken's Watch. It was given to him by Richard Staunton, as a token of gratitude for the House's years of service and friendship with no extra titles. The name comes from the name of the dialect they speak, the Akritian culture.

 

Dialect:

 

  The name of the dialect is Akritian. It is the common language used by humans with a mixture of unique words. Some words include 'Kalispera' which means 'Greetings', 'Ne' which means 'Yes' and 'Nikae' which means 'Victory'. They also got their own numbers and they use them more often.

-'Ochi' which means 'No'

-'Malista' which means 'Of course'

-'Kyrie' which means 'Sir'

-'Archon' which means 'Lord' (Or Archontas)

-'Polemos which means 'War'

-'Agape' which means 'Love'

-'Thanatos' which means 'Death'

 

"A few phrases"

 

-'Malista Kyrie (Capital K if he is a lord)' which means 'Of course m'lord'

-'E taichne tou Polemou' which means 'The Art of War'

-'En touto Nika' which means 'This wins' (I suggest you to show a banner before you say this prhase)

 

 

Population:

 

  The majority of the populace are of Highlander origin, the most native to the Northern enviroment, though Heartlanders aren't a rarity. The men are usually either slim or muscular, due to the long hours of labour for the betterment of Nikae. Women are curvy or slim as well. Their diet is composed of fish, mushrooms, olives, cheese, vegetables, dough products, and meat in case of the wealthy. They also drink wine and ale. The citizens enjoy taking part in activities like running races, chariot races and tournaments.

  The citizens are heartwarming to foreigners and they try to be as helpful as possible. They enjoy conversing with anyone. However, they are realy tough convince them, to change their mind, but that is mostly cause they will always find counter arguements.

Military:

 

  The House Palaiologos has a force of well equipped men to protect them. These men are part of of the Eagle's Vigil, Courland's army. They mostly belong to Cavalry division, though there some part of the infantry and archery. Their Cavalry has an unofficial name "Cataphracts". They are heavily armored soldiers on horseback. They are equipped with a lance and a falchion, however they are free to choose a different weapon. Some of them who are decent archers also carry a shortbow.

Economy:

 

  For the betterment of their land and it's people, House Palaiologos conducts buisness to strengthen itself. Despite living in the north, they are great farmers, capable of producing a large ammount of wheat anytime of the year, except during the harsh winters. Next to their land lies the sea, which provides the ability to the House to partake in trade and fishing. They breed animals and use their skin and meat as trade products. They also do good with gold and precious gems they mine. Lastly, through the use of some small shops owned by the House, they sell a variety of items, from utensils to glass.

Religion:

 

  The Akritians are of Canonist faith. They are incredibly religious, attending masses frequently and often having a small room in their houses meant for praying. House Palaiologos is planning to create a chapel close to his castle.

 

(The culture is basically Byzantine/Greek.)
