Community Contests

A few days ago I had the idea to put up another contest for the aspiring artists of LotC. I found only one real problem with the idea, however; in comparison to the rest of the community our artists get an awful lot of contests. That's why I tried to think up of a few contests so that most members of the community can take part and have fun in a friendly competition.

Artists Contest: Map Maker

While of course we currently have the incredibly useful dynmap, there's nothing quite like having one of the beautifully made maps that players have made in the past. That is why we are once again looking for the best map you can make of the Isles of Vailor.

If you want some inspiration, take a look at the last time we did this contest here:

https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/124524-the-great-athera-map-making-competition/

Of course just click the “Map” button on the forums for a good look at Vailor, or follow this link

https://www.lordofthecraft.net/maps

Rules and Requirements:

-Significant landmarks are recommended but not required (the volcano on the old dark elf island for example).

-Nation borders are recommended but not required.

-Nation Capitals and other major settlements should be present on the map.

-A legend for any markings your map may have is recommended but not required.

-Do not copy or take another person's work as your own. Plagiarisms bad, kids.

-While you may make more than one entry, please know that you may only win once

All entries can be PM’d to Dizzy771 or Aengoth

Prizes:

1st place: 4,000 minas, the "creative wizard" forum tag, and an elytra

2nd place: 2,000 minas and an elytra

3rd place: 1,000 minas

Skin Makers Contest: Mythical Monsters

Here’s a contest for all the talented skin makers out there. The event team is always working hard creating new events, and as such they need the resources to perform said events. A staple of events for the past while has always been monsters. Weather the event centers around the monster or the monster is just an obstacle on the way to a higher goal, the event team tries their hardest to portray these creatures to the best of their abilities. What better a way to portray these beasts then by having a properly crafted skin?

The idea of this contest is to take one of the monsters from our lore and make it into a skin. For a list of creatures and some inspiration you can either check the creature section of the lore subforum, or for quicker reference see this post:

https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/topic/130056-the-creature-index-new-creature-applications/

Rules and Requirements:

-Skins must be based off of lore accepted creatures

-You must be willing to allow the staff to use these skins for events and the like

-Do not copy or take another person's work as your own. Plagiarisms bad, kids.

-While you may make more than one entry, please know that you may only win once

All entries can be PM’d to Dizzy771 or Freema

Prizes:

1st place: 4,000 minas, the "creative wizard" forum tag, and an elytra

2nd place: 2,000 minas and an elytra

3rd place: 1,000 minas

Builders Contest: Workshops

LotC has always had a vast array of amazing builds and builders. Now it's time to test the skill of these builders in creating another cornerstone of the realm of Vailor.

Whether it be a blacksmith or a stonemason, wizard or alchemist, breeder or farmer, everyone needs some sort of workshop. The challenge we put forth for builders is to make a small to midsized workshop. Themes range from just about any one of our nexus professions, to even some outside of our professions system (eg; the aforementioned wizard). These workshops do not have to be mechanically functional, this is a building challenge not a nexus grinding set up challenge.

Rules and Requirements:

-Workshops are expected to be small to midsized. Please no industrial sized monstrosities *cough* dwarves *cough*

-While it is encouraged to make these builds on LotC, it is not required. Highly detailed screenshots or a video tour may suffice.

-Do not copy or take another person's work as your own. Plagiarisms bad, kids.

-While you may make more than one entry, please know that you may only win once

All entries can be PM’d to Dizzy771 or Wrynn

Prizes:

1st place: 4,000 minas and an elytra

2nd place: 2,000 minas and an elytra

3rd place: 1,000 minas

Seekers Contest: Treasure Hunt [COMPLETED]

The treasures have been claimed and Sir Benjamin Ellis Wildingham III has moved on to hunt bigger game! Congratulations to the winners.

For those curious; the words the letters created were FAITH, VIGOR, and LUCKY. I have also placed the locations each riddle directed you to in the riddle spoiler in case you are really curious

All across the realm of Vailor there is treasure to be found. Brave adventurers, intrepid explorers, and extraordinarily lucky passersby alike have all found immense wealth and priceless artifacts hidden by time. This, however, is a once in a lifetime opportunity to claim some of this treasure for your very own!

The renowned explorer

Sir Benjamin Ellis Wildingham III

Has uncovered three ages old and quite mysterious crates of unknown origins. Unfortunately the crates are all sealed by some form of powerful magic, and any attempt to bypass this magic has resulted in failure. It appears something is required to open these crates and the only hints we may have are the markings on them. The markings are rather distinct, but can’t be traced back to any particular race or culture. Through hard work and the knowledge of many years Sir Wildingham has managed to decipher the markings, however. They seem to be riddles of sorts, clues as to locations perhaps?

Sir Wildingham suggests you follow these riddles and return to him with whatever you may have found. Furthermore he has promised that any person to successfully open a crate may keep its contents, whatever they may be, as a reward.

Sir Wildingham can be found at the cloud temple, alongside the three crates, until this mystery is solved.

The riddles are as follows:

1: Deep in halls of stone, a place where little men call it home.

Watch your step in this grand old town, its an awful long way down.

In the bottom of the cave in which the dwarven city is built in

2: Spires of white that scrape the sky, what a sight to behold with ones own eye.
On top of one of the spire like mountains in dwarven lands

3: Once home to a scholarly race, now a run down and decrepit old place.

The first high elf city of vailor

4: Calling home to a ramshackle tower, no longer can it tell the hour.
The bell tower at spawn

5: A land once covered in blood and steel and snow, now only the scars of battle does it show.
The warzone between Oren and Urguan

6: From flowers to trees to bumblebees, this forest contains many colorful wonders such as these.

The large and very colorful grove on the wood elf island

7: Fire, smoke, and choking ash, to even venture here would be considered quite rash.

The old dark elf island. Specifically by the volcano.

8: So strange it is in the middle of a tropical paradise, a place that is as cold as ice.

The thanhium mine on the Celein island.

9: One can't have an empire without a fleet, finding something here would be quite the treat.
At the Orenian docks, on a small rock.

10: An island filled with dirt and clay and sand and trees, luckily you can take as much as you please.

On resource island.

11:  Here he lies buried, the elf who many might have thought a greenskin he married
Phaedrus's (may he R.I.P.) grave in orcish lands.

12: A Field of wheat, once tended by happy little feet.
A wheat field in the original halfling land

13: A snow covered island far in the north, a strange and majestic arch that none know the origin from now to any day henceforth
The strange colored clay and quartz arch-way on the island of Avar.

14: Deep within a dungeon left to mold, the final resting place of skygods old.

GM graveyard. Underground part specifically.

15: Though many may wish to see it burn, this place is one of the greatest places in which to learn.

Behind the library of Dragur.

OOC:

The following is a scavenger hunt / riddle solving sort of challenge. The players knowledge of the current map may be tested, and to the victor go the spoils. Each riddle will direct players to a location somewhere in the map, there they will need to find a beacon block with a sign on it. For extra confirmation all the beacons will be locked by Dizzy771, just use /cinfo and punch it to see who locked it. Remember what you find on the sign, as it will be important. Return to Sir Wildingham as soon as you think you are able to try and open a crate. Happy hunting!

Writers Contest: The First Rush

Of course it would be a shame to leave out the many amazing writers on LotC, so here is a contest to suit them. As I am not much of a writer myself, I’ll get to it write away (haha, puns).

We want to see the first true memorable moment you ever experienced on LotC through the eyes of the character it happened to.

Something major to consider:

Your writing does not have to be told in the first person, by saying “through the eyes of the character” we mean that it must be a story. We don’t want a simple retelling of what went down in minecraft, we want to read it as if it was a book. What did your character feel during that moment? Were they afraid? Exuberant? Blackout drunk? How did they respond to the situation? I am sure that the writers out there that are reading this know what I mean, but just in case feel free to PM me if you are confused by my own clumsy writing.

Rules and Requirements:

-Do not copy or take another person's work as your own. Plagiarisms bad, kids.

-While you may make more than one entry, please know that you may only win once

All entries can be PM’d to Dizzy771 or Supremacy

Prizes:

1st place: 4,000 minas, the "creative wizard" forum tag, and an elytra

2nd place: 2,000 minas and an elytra

3rd place: 1,000 minas

Reminder: pay attention to whichever contest you are participating in. Submissions for each contest are to be made to different people, so make sure to check first before accidentally submitting to the wrong person.

All contests, excluding the Treasure Hunt and the Tourney, will close submission in 2 weeks time, around Sunday June 12th. Time may be extended if necessary.
