Pandan 1452 Share Posted June 12, 2016 The Department Initiative The Department Initiative stems from the brief acknowledgement I gave to the concept within my June staff address, which included the following; “Instead of operating as a single entity we’re units within a machine; The AT accept applicants, who get monitored by the FM’s and GM’s and are supplied content by the ET. There isn’t any.. Connection, between the teams. It often seems like 90% of responsibility and power is within the GM’s and they’re the highest authority, and most important. But, that isn’t the case. Every team has its role, each as important as the other and that fact isn’t recognised by the staff or the playerbase as a whole.” An issue of this sorts I’ve been considering on for some time. The almost obsolete inter-staff communications that’ve continued to fail and lack even a glimpse of success since the very establishment of staff teams. Teams. That's the word that irritates me, it defines what we are and what we do. In the modern world of business the hierarchy isn’t established as teams but instead departments and when the topic of team building arises it's a global thing for everyone to get involved with. The team should represent the business for they all work for the same goal. Now this isn’t saying we’re a business in the slightest. By any stretch we’re a non-profit to which purpose is to drive community interaction and activity through whatever means you’ve selected. However to neglect a perhaps better way of running and defining how our volunteers work and operate would be absurd and because of such I’m announcing The Department Initiative. What does this all mean? This announcement introduces the new means in which we define our staff team. By that of departments; no longer are we separate teams but instead a single aiming to achieve a single goal. Inspiring, improving and adding to our community. For the most part you won't see this alone causing active change but it's an attempt to shift the player bases opinion away from what it has been and towards a slightly more positive direction. To better explain please read the following upon the new format of staff teams; Leadership Division Leadership Director Taking upon the responsibility of ensuring that all departments are performing to a satisfactory level whilst also being the goto place for issues that may occur during the running of the team. Department Director An individual rank, only accessible by being chosen to lead a department through showing dedication, commitment and bringing continued progressive ideas to the table. In being chosen you’re expected to lead a team to a high standard whilst fixing any issues that may occur. Information Division Application Department Responsible for the reviewal and acceptance of new applicants onto the server, ensuring they’ve the sufficient knowledge and capability to roleplay among new and existing members whilst also lending hand to those that struggle. Magic Application Department In charge of the control and documentation of magic users within the community. Ensuring that all magic users are correctly taught and will provide sufficient roleplay to those they interact with. Wiki Department Aims to document and make ease of access to the majority of information upon the server; whether this be locations, lore or general facts. A successful department will continue to update and maintain the wiki as the masses of information comes into the fold. Moderation Division Forum Department The forum moderation department hold the responsibility of monitoring and organizing the forums as a platform. Making sure that posts remain according the the community/forum conduct as well as keeping on top of the constantly busy forums. Game Department Active figures within the moderation of the server; acting as figures that enforce the rules and regulations that have been pre-established. They are also the driving force within server progression attempting to bring forth new ideas and implement them with success. Creative Division Event Department Established for the purpose of providing interactive events for the community as a whole, this may include large and expansive quest lines to one-off events just to provide people with fun. They should commonly work with the Lore Department to bring forth an enriching history to the server. Lore Department In charge of the moderation and introduction of new lore for the server, whether that be for player usage of story based. They should aim to give the story a main event line to follow whilst working with the event department to help bring that to life. Development Division Developer Department A "Developer" is the senior level position assigned to members of the team who have proven themselves capable. Along with this comes a hefty amount of trust mainly to allow the user to have more freedom with their skills. In rare cases developers may be promoted without being coders to begin with, but there is no application for a Developer. Coder Department A "Coder" is the entry level position onto the department. This is the only position you can apply for on the Development department. The work includes either creating Plugins solo or sometimes in group effort, either projects on your own free time or projects assigned to you. Usually, you should be comfortable with either, dependent upon what is needed. A Couple More Things.. From Global to Game This one is quite the small one but relevant to everything I’ve highlighted above. The word ‘global’ to me almost empowers the role, makes it seem likes its relevant within every crevice of the server and the ‘leading’ role. Again this is a difficult perception to break however it's one that will require time! So because of this the ‘global moderator’ will be changed to ‘game moderator’. The role will remain the same, so you’ll not see much of a difference. PS: Before this gets brought up, several years ago when the ‘server moderator’ rank was introduced is not the same in the slightest to this. The role remains under the same rank, instead of being split as before. To lead or not to lead. For a while now there has been a mindset that to become a team lead you must be a GM; and although this does have tangible benefits it also (at least within opinion of the administrators) blocks significant potential. The fact that in order to hold a leadership position you must be willing to give time to modreq and settling player debate made little sense, as the two skill sets are incredibly different. So although this is a short update, its confirming that from this moment any staff team member can potentially become lead of their team through showing dedication, commitment and positive leadership attributes. Anonymous Staff Report Forum One thing that's important to me personally is ensuring that the standard of our staff teams remain high. However I also understand that to some people reporting their friends, or maybe even people they don't know is of high difficulty. That is an issue I’m looking to tackle with the introduction of this new forum, located here; https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/forum/588-anonymous-staff-report/ By posting here only us, the administrators, and yourself can view the topic. Therefore meaning you can anonymously post troubling actions without facing flak from the community, I hope this helps! Cultures Subforum After a point raised by Chaotikal I realized that individual cultures didn't really have much of a place to post the content relevant to them. With the race subforums constantly dominated by racial nations even the important posts quickly become swamped beneath the oncoming waves. So in turn I quickly threw this new forum up; https://www.lordofthecraft.net/forums/forum/590-cultures/ Hopefully that’ll make things easier for those it is relevant too.

Inspiring, improving and adding to our community. That's great, please listen to us and remove 1.9 combat and nexus professions please. Thank you! I'm glad you're finally going to start listening! That'd certainly inspire, improve and add to the community who have demanded time and time again this improvement to the game.

Equinox 245 Share Posted June 12, 2016 Remember that we (the departments) as a whole can not change overnight, and as much as i'd like to be overly optimistic of this decision. This will stay take a greater quarter of the year to produce and reform to proper aesthetic, societal, and technical standards. I'm glad we are improving, but there needs to be more depth to break the silence among the teams. Which are not quick and swift blows, but rather gradual endeavors.

We've more plans and are well in knowledge this is a longer process than people imagine. But, change!

Change without purpose is a fad, a fad comes and goes, dear McCree. Let us all hope for the best.

mmat 7460 Share Posted June 12, 2016 The whole corporatisation of the staff is pretty cringey if I'm totally honest. Just makes things more robotic and bureaucratised without any real positive change. 'Communicate between teams' all you want but if the players hate you for brushing off their problems then whats the point.
