actually most empires collapse due to internal strife not external pressure; the conquering by someone else only happens at the very end after the empire has fractured and the fracturing is what gives the other people the opportunity to exploit to conquer their lands

the conquering empire is like a gust of wind that knocks over the tree that has already rotted out on the inside

yes its ******* boring and mind numbing welcome to lotc turns out its not a very good server

people keep doing the same **** over and over and over with the same results (they probably do this because the only thing that's fun to do on the server is fight people). maybe now you'll start to understand why watching the situation from the outside is like banging your face against a wall, and why people in oren get rather annoyed when people tell them oocly that they're just being assholes and dominating and trying to push playergroups off the server b/c they're ooc powerhungry jerks when countless numbers of small playergroups have attacked them and been swatted and cried foul to get ooc protection.

now oreners are indeed just like the other playergroups in that the main thing they do to have fun is find someone to have a fight with, but oren rarely attempts to actually conquer land because conquering land on this server is mostly a waste of time. we have so much land and so few people that oren has effectively infinite space to expand into without having to fight to set up its own empire. conquering land doesn't bring any new taxes or people or anything all it does is deny the enemy the ability to use that land to build a fortress on, which is why conquests only ever happen when oren feels the need to stifle a group's ability to harass them from a fortified position

Read up on the roman empire, a better analogy in my opinion would be the external forces, the bugs eat away at the flimsy, malnourished tree, so it falls and dies. The only problem is in LotC there is no weakness or malnourishment.

the roman empire is the quintessential example of an empire that died due to internal weakness lmfao

the problem with these analogies to lotc, though, is that lotc is a tiny tiny place. oren is only a couple hundred people strong maximum, which makes it the size of a tiny village in population. oren is not an empire, it's a village, and the other nations are hamlets. there will be no sweeping changes because the population isn't large enough for that to happen.

That is the problem, IRL that happens, but then someone else comes along (mongols, huns, etc) that they didn't know about and kills all of them, that can't happen here because there are no "secret races" or anything with new tech.

Well as Pie had said there are some aspects of IRL to this server but there are aspects in which it is nothing like real life. And with the by no means small but how you are looking at it IRL wise small amount of people you cannot compact everything you are thinking of into a server that gets around on a normal day 200 people and a however by however many sized blocky map. Compared to the amount of people that did love in all around spread out places that those Empires had not made it to yet. What you are going for we don't have the capacity for it if WC's got any larger they would be totally unbearable

The internal weakness was caused because the empire was to big to support itself, and you would be right if not for the fact that almost every person counts as about 100.

See, the thing is, in the time that I've played an orc (So basically in all the time I've been on the server), the only reason I would've ever logged off is because there was simply nobody around to RP with, because (Surprise, surprise) the orcs are rather stagnant now. The shamans have broken off into their own little settlement, which leaves the rest of the orcs with glorified human RP with a few more fights and funny speech impediments. This, of course, is simply my opinion. Human RP isn't very... engaging to me. That's the reason I chose orcs. They seemed to have interesting enough magic and traditions, and now with Oren ripping us apart from one side, and the shamans off in Sutica, there's not much room for any actual orc RP. It's just sort of standing around until you hear that "RALLY!" in Skype, at which point you get your iron armour on and prepare for another warclaim.

Honestly, that's probably the only reason I don't particularly like Oren, not hate, just not particularly like. Although it makes sense from an RP standpoint, it very quickly brews hate whenever the biggest faction on the server declares/wins a warclaim yet again, only to be rewarded with mundane at best loot, a lot of wasted time, and a few salty forum memes.

Bloody hell, this post is good for letting off steam.

As I said to Agiantpie most people count as about 100 on the server, for comparison purposes.

Kill, conquer, it is all the same in this server.

We need a *** Geneva Convention around here, that would be amazing!
