Inkthorn 1434 Share Posted January 15, 2017 On this solemn day, loyalty is suicide. To rally before that banner of purple and black is to end one’s own life. Therefore I am made to consider the alternative, and to consider the cause of the armies which brought the Empire to its knees. The cause of my good friend John d’Amaury, of the relatively infamous Tuvya Staunton, and of many, many more — I am today made to consider their cause. It is not without deep deliberation and undoubtable eventual ostracization that I do thus declare my support for their cause. I believe in a particular ideal: the vox populi. The voice of the people must be heard, whether by an enlightened despot at the helm of some imperial machine, or by the right of might and a champion to fight for the people’s cause. These rebels have made themselves such a champion. And it is therein that they have made a significant transition. They have moved from rebels to revolutionaries. Their cause has proven not only just but it has been embraced en masse by the people. The armies of the revolution have marched on the armies of man and proved victorious upon the field of battle. God favors them on this solemn day. With such in mind, I do renounce my oaths of fealty to Philip of House Horen and declare my allegiance to John of House d’Amaury. It is with tired hands that I raise my banners to march against my brethren, but at least with such exhaustion I may bear my sword and shield with a clear conscious, knowing that my cause is just. Let us deliver the Empire to its grave. Let us provide mankind’s deliverance into a new golden era. Let us bring prosperity and security to the realms of man. And for those who remain loyal, remember: fides est mortem. Join us, and fight the good fight. Signed, Ser Sylvestre Halcourt ✝

"Is it nobler to die, loyal to a disgraced notion of an Empire on its deathbed, or to throw one's weight behind the plight of the people and their worthy revolution? Indeed I do admire the stoic knight who fights to the last breath, but I am no such idealogue. I am a pragmatist, and it is pragmatic to return to my friend's side in Lorraine.
