History and Information

The Levy of House Ashford de Anjou is a military organisation that claims no ancient or paramount origin - formulated only recently upon the rise to prominence of one Robert Ashford de Anjou after his ascension as the Count of Cleves within the Kingdom of Lorraine-Savoy, the levy was birthed as a retinue consisting of common folk and minor gentry with only one goal in mind; to protect and serve the House of de Anjou, as tradesmen and courtiers in times of peace and soldiers in periods of war and strife.

 

The Count and his levy presently reside in the Barony of Ostwick, a temporary fortress of operations for the army. It is here that much of their training and initiations take place, as well as regularly scheduled patrols about the King’s land and recruitment drives. Soldiers of the levy are provided with arms, armour by their lord and the castle blacksmith, as well as three meals a day complimentary of the court chef. In return, however, soldiers are expected to owe absolutely loyalty and diligence toward their count, and in turn, their kingdom and the Royal House of d’Amaury in turn.

Lord of House de Anjou

The Lord of House de Anjou acts as the autocratic archon of the levy - responsible for the undertaking for caring to every one of his men’s needs and requirements, Lord de Anjou’s word counts for ultimate law amongst the soldiers of the levy. This position is one only typically resigned from through death.

 

 

 

Bannerlords

Commanders second only to the Highlord, the Bannerlords are commonly regarded as the leaders of the Levy. Their slot is for the most part filled by the most veteran Bannermen, whose experience has granted them knowledge enough to manage and maintain the standards expected of this militia - however it is not unlikely for a man of de Anjou blood to also fill these roles. A Bannerlords primary tasks are as follows:

• The recruitment and advertisement of the order.

• The maintenance of the order’s armoury.

• The training, disciplining and inspection of the Bannermen.

• The assignment of relevant duties to individual Bannermen.

• Upholding Lorraine-Savoy and Canonist law throughout the realm of d’Amaury’s influence.

 

Bannermen

The core fighting force of the Ashford de Anjou Levy, Bannermen the militia’s most diverse position. Pending approval from a respective Bannerlord (or the Highlord himself), a recruit may begin his duties as a Bannerman as soon as possible. They include (though are not limited to):

• Service in military campaigns and other conflicts approved of by house Ashford de Anjou.
• Acting guardforce of all Ashford de Anjou lands and that of its vassals - such as Cleves or Ostwick.
• Acting bodyguards of the Ashford de Anjou family and that of its noble vassals - such as Horen-Pruvia.
• Upholding Lorraine-Savoy and Canonist law throughout the realm of d’Amaury’s influence.
• Assisting the Crown’s direct forces in all duties referenced above.
• Obedience to the requested tasks of the Bannerlords or the Lord.

 

 

Eligibility for Enlistment

The candidate must be male.

• The candidate must be of, at the minimum, 14 years of age.

• The candidate must be Human.

• In exception to the above, those of Elven descent may be permitted to join the levy so long as their ears are clipped to an acceptable standard. Similar exception may be granted to Dwarves, though their beard must be trimmed to a tidy and neat standard. Both races must also fulfill the other eligible requirements listed.

• The candidate must adhere to the Canonist faith.

• The candidate must not carry any grotesque maimings that would affect their duties in any way (missing limbs, blindness, infirmity, etc.)

 

Application and Joining Process

Able men desiring to join the ranks of the Bannermen beneath the de Anjou levy may take one of two routes in accomplishing this:

 

• Send a raven to Lord Robert Ashford de Anjou (MANDIDEXTROUS) or visit the fortress of Fourland in the Barony of Ostwick, and express your desire to enlist.

• Complete the application form;
