Vice Chancellor Ernst steps up to the podium within the City of Ves and speaks to the People:

...

“Dear Faithful flock of GOD,

It is on this day of Godfrey’s Triumph, I announce with great sorrow that His Holiness Daniel VI has passed away and ascended to the Seven Skies. The immaculate Seat of the High Pontiff lies empty and it is the Holy duty of the College of Cardinals to come together and vote upon the new Shepard of Our People. It is with this that I initiate the College of 1737. I hereby call together all Cardinals to the Golden City of Ves to elect the New Vicar of GOD!”

...

After the announcement, Ernst turns inside to the palace and readies everything for the elections. He begins by sending a letter to all Cardinals for them to convene the election within Ves. Ernst then begins praying for a suitable candidate to take the Throne of the High Pontiff of the Canonist Church.

...

The Following Names are the Candidates for the Holy Seat of High Pontiff;

-Cardinal Renzfeld [xboxersz]

-Cardinal Helena [Boiendl]

-Cardinal Avalain [Froschli]

-Cardinal Ves [Frill]

-Cardinal Pruvia [Thesmellypocket]

((Only and limiting the aforementioned individuals may post on this thread. Voting shall conclude when all eligible electors have placed their votes.))

His Eminence Jasper Cardinal Renzfeld, Ph.D., M.Div., approaches the ballot box with vigor, clutching a folded slip of parchment in his hand. Glancing back as he submits his anonymous vote, the young Sarkozic addresses his fellow electors.

“Your Eminence, as a lay member, and a, erm- A junior member of this, ah… Body, I understand that my words may not yet carry significant weight. However… As His Holiness’ personal secrea- Ahem, secretary, during his final days, I, uh, believe that I may perhaps shed some wisdom upon our proceedings today.”

After taking a moment to emit several hacking coughs into his hand, Cardinal Renzfeld continues with a confidence not seen during his introduction.

“High Pontiff Daniel VI was a kindred spirit, a spry theological mind, and a humble servant of all GODly creatures upon the mortal plane. He brought unity to GOD’s humble servants during a period of significant strife, and bestowed upon the Holy Canonist Church a new age of excitement and progress surrounding the scriptures and traditions of yore.

The successor to such an eminent figure within the annals of history should be one of similar stature, holding the virtues of charity, faith, fidelity, humility, diligence, temperance, and patience close to his heart. With this in mind, I host no regret in informing you that I’ve submitted my ballot in support of Peter Cardinal Helena.

There are few members of the clergy with more humble beginnings than the Cardinal Helena. For a humble mudlarker to not only excel in his seminary training, but earn a Ph.D. in Canonical Ethics, is an astounding feat. No less incredible is this thoughtful, upstanding cleric’s ascension not only to the Electoral Synod but to the seniormost post in the Imperial court, advising the Lord Protector on matters not merely secular, but ecclesiastical and ethical in nature. I’m confident that His Eminence would perform the duties of the Vicar of GOD with grace and aplomb, and with enough thought, I have no doubt that you will reach the same conclusion I did.”

With that, Cardinal Renzfeld quickly removes himself from the dais, making his way back down to the rest of the gathered cardinals.

His Eminence Ide Cardinal Ves takes the full amount of time GOD had afforded him to reach the ballot box. Daubing the edges of his lips with a ‘kerchief, his eyes look to the synod before breaking into a slow speech, his hands shakily carrying the folded paper-piece containg his vote.

Such is the frailty of all men, that even as Daniel VI was GOD's earthly voice, and even when Daniel VI was a man that had the greatest consciousness of his own being, where he made the strongest and most pious impression, even in the memory, or in the heart, of his congregation, he yet must perish,—vanish,—and as quickly as he first appeared.

I could tear open my chest with vexation if I were forced to give answer to the grand artifice behind the death of the Pontiff, but it is all for nought. The wheels of faith move onwards all the same.

Cardinal Ves casts his folded vote into the box, giving a brief nod of his head from the dias before making his way down.

Philip Cardinal Pruvia

Cardinal Philip Pius Coppinger seems to be deep in internal prayer. He is wearing a simple cassock, with no pretension of status or wealth. The other noticeable thing about him is his youth: he is perhaps only 21. He seems to mutter something about his spiritual mentor, Humbert, and then Saint Julia. At length, he speaks powerfully and with a dogged stoicism, belying his inexperience:

'Are we not going to start with a prayer?!' He insists.

'Saint Julia, pray for us. Grant us, by the mercy of God, thy angelic sweetness, thy blind obedience, thy profound humility, thy ardent charity, and thy divine wisdom.

Now, brothers in God. I think the spirit of God must guide us in these proceedings. If God should choose me I know it must be His will: for there can be none as plainly unsuitable as I, who am all too young, all too immoderate, and all too rabblerousing. That being said, there is one among us who is clearly suitable in every respect, and the entreaties I have made to God furthermore confirm it in my heart.

That is Cardinal Avalain. His stout service to our beloved Daniel recommends him: and which is more, the love of my spiritual father Humbert makes him of especial regard to me. From the beginning he has been a friend to reformist and moralistic tendancies everywhere, so therefore I have no hesitation whatsoever in casting my vote for him.

Whatever God wills, gentlemen.' He resolves with an awesome certainty and a simple nod.

Archbishop Ernst of Curonia, Vice Chancellor of the Church and Nuncio to the Kingdom of Curonia rises from his seat and steps towards the ballot. He then struggles for a second to take a piece of paper but proceeds to do so. He then looks to his fellow Cardinals and speaks with a loud tone to the other Eminences:

“My fellow Cardinals.” He Says as a greeting before continuing “I wish to thank you all for coming and convening to my Letters as Vice Chancellor. As Said by Cardinal Pruvia we should pray for the soul of our beloved Pontiff Daniel VI.” The Vice Chancellor says before forming a cross and mumbling a prayer to St. Daniel for guidance and blesses his vote. Shortly after his prayer he continues: We must now vote upon a new Shepard for the faithful, a new leader of the Church to bring the faithful to salvation during this time of a vacant See. In My Position as Vice Chancellor of the Curia, I feel myself entrusted by His Holiness High Pontiff Emeritus and see his judgement of my position as true and righteous. So with this Office to be within my hand, I also see this office as a commission to be administered with neutrality. With this Neutrality in mind I place my vote upon myself as Pontiff-to-be.” The Vice Chancellor says before placing his vote within the ballot and mumbles a short phrase: “Quia in una ecclesia.” Ernst then returns to his seat and glances to his fellow Cardinals and prays some more.

The Cardinal Helena rises from his chair. He steps towards the ballot.

“We have been graced by a time of Peace and Prosperity for our realms. We have been blessed by GOD to have been allowed to have such a gracious and wise High Pontiff such as Daniel VI. This is now a time for the continuation of his legacy.

While I appreciate the Cardinal Renfelds support of myself. I am still young, I am embroiled in matters of the State and as such I do not see myself fit to take the helm of the Church. I have prayed much on this matter. There is no doubt in my mind who I shall vote for.

Let GOD smile upon us, and let us show our support for the Cardinal Avalain, our new High Pontiff.”

The Cardinal Helena raises his piece of paper, then slips it into the ballot.

A Monk steps forth and takes the ballots from the altar before loudly muttering a prayer to the Cardinals:

"May the Seven Skies in all their blessings and intercession inspire the Church to select a man befitting for the Holy Seat of St. Daniel. Amen."

The votes have been accounted as follows:

"...Cardinal Helena"

"...Cardinal Pruvia"

"...Cardinal Avalain"

"...Cardinal Avalain"

“...Cardinal Avalain”

“Your Eminences, the ballots appear to be real and authentic wherein Archbishop Ernst of Curonia has received the majority of the Synod. Godspeed to His Holiness-Elect!” The Monk cries aloud with a smile before beginning to clap.
