A Plea for Help

[!] Within the major cities of the Empire, including Helena, Reza, and Owynsburg, as well as in taverns across Arcas, adventurers might be able to spot a certain notice penned to boards and posts throughout the land... [!]

To Whom It May Concern:

I would first like to thank you for taking the time to read this letter. My name is Amelia Mortimer, a young barrister who lives and works in the town of Owynsburg. I write to you today in search of some assistance regarding a very dire matter...

Quite recently, my father passed onto the Seven Skies. As his only daughter and the sole surviving member of our family, I was left as the heiress to the Riverspire Manor and the Mortimer estate, our family manor house on the frontier. It does not lie within the borders of any nation, situated many miles south of the furthest Imperial outpost. My family was once quite wealthy and used to run a lush vineyard in our lands when I was a child, although it fell into disrepair some years ago after the ruination of our family business.

Some time ago, I attempted to visit my father’s estate in the hope of once again fixing it up. Unfortunately however, I was forced to vacate the manor after a single night. An unlivable mess, the manor is quite desolate… Throughout my night there, I was tormented by the most horrendous of sounds. Worse yet, I found a number of things missing from my trunk upon my decision to depart in the morning.

Something is still lurking within Riverspire Manor, and I need a group that is much more adept at dealing with these sorts of things than I to investigate. It is my own personal belief that the manor is either infested, haunted, or perhaps some mixture of the two. Therefore, I require the assistance of an enterprising group of adventurers to help make this manor inhabitable once again for the sake of both my family’s legacy and for personal closure as to the matter of my abandoned childhood home.

While I cannot pay much, I would be more than willing to pay what I can and offer any group of adventurers that might be willing to assist me a few old and valuable trinkets that cannot be found anywhere else. I may also be able to offer a few things from within the manor, in return for assisting me in the reclamation of my ancestral family home. A group of six or so would be ideal for the job, any more would likely be overkill I fear.

Mind you though, I will not hire just anyone for this task. I will only select a group based on who I think will be able to get the job done the best, and I will pay a group on the basis of their success in dealing with whatever pests might lie within Riverspire Manor. Groups who wish to undertake this task should pen a letter to my home in Owynsburg at their soonest possible convenience, including their pitch for being allowed to take on this job and their credentials to be able to do so.

Once again, thank you for considering my request. I look forward to meeting with interested parties in the near future.

Sincerely,

Amelia Mortimer

OUT-OF-CHARACTER INFORMATION

Hey guys, so this is an event line meant to simulate a dungeon crawl in an old style haunted mansion, relying heavily on investigatory RP and diligent, calculated exploration.

As Amelia is the only one who knows of the location of Riverspire Manor however, interested groups will have to converse with her before entering the dungeon! As such, she will only agree to hire groups that can aptly convince her to select them for the job. Thus, banditry and mina hungry behavior will not be tolerated during this ongoing event line, and only groups who provide the proper RP reasoning behind taking the contract and can prove themselves capable will be allowed to take a crack at crawling through Riverspire Manor.

Multiple groups may also have the chance to have their crack at Riverspire Manor, depending upon the successes and failures of those who try to decipher the place’s secrets. Developments in the event line may also necessitate the involvement of others as well.

If you are interested and have a group between 6-8 players that wishes to try to assist Amelia, then please leave a forum post in the form of an RP letter on this thread. I will not respond in character to any discord DMs that are sent to me. If Amelia is interested in interviewing your group, then you shall receive a letter back in turn on this thread.

Thanks guys, and I hope you have fun with this little event line of mine!

Somewhere in the marshes, a wretched deformed maiden lurked.

”Amelia, ‘melia... rotten thing, daddy’s favorite always be. But you are not the only child of Master Mortimer, and I will claim my rightful inheritance!” The witch clenches her gnarled fists, licking the warts dotted upon her lips.

She stared into her vast, dark cauldron, tossing bits of human toes and drake liver.

“Undead lurk and undead wander,

to tear the household of Mortimer asunder!”

The witch laughs maniacally into the night.

[!] A letter would reach to Amelia by that of a Qalasheen Falcon, on which's back held a bambo container the letter would read the following:

"Peace be to you, Amelia,

I and a few of my men, are willing to investigate this situation and hopefully resolve it. We are well trained and equipt to handle most things. If you are interested in our services, send a letter to myself, Saeed Ibn Hamza.

I pray that your situation will better, bu the grace of Allah."

[!] A letter would be promptly written to the sender of the letter. The envelope would be a stygian black, clasped shut by a crimson seal with the symbol of the Belcourt family firmly stamped upon it. A neatly folded letter would be found amidst the envelope, and upon unfolding the parchment elegant handwriting would read:

“Hello, Miss Mortimer. I hope this letter reaches you in good fortune and in good health. I write to you from the Belcourt family Manor as I have been recently notified of your predicament and the aid that you require. After much deliberation with the individuals in the manor and assessing the requirements needed to provide such assistance, I offer our service forth to you. I extend an invitation to you, Miss Amelia, to the Belcourt Manor on a small visit to meet myself, Solan, and the other constituents within this household that are eager to aid you in your issue. I have no doubt in my heart that you will find us apt in completing this task and returning to you what was rightfully yours, and all will be done in efficient time. Our team is made up of disciplined, avid thinkers but also skilled, ferocious fighters to guide us along the way. I hope to hear from you soon.”

Best,

Solan Durion

[!] Upon the bottom of the letter, the familiar crimson stamp was firmly engraved into the parchment – the pronounced letter “B” ornately enscribed upon the pale piece of paper.

[!]

The letter had seem to had run in with all sorts of elements. The rain had turned made its corners jaundiced; the wax on its forefront had seemingly shattered a quarter of its integrity due to fumbling and bumbling by transporters. A solitary cut of the wax with a knife, and the letter sprung- it’s casing on its last legs- almost as if the letter itself was excited to be finally read.

Good morning, evening, afternoon, night- at whatever time this letter reaches you, Miss Amelia. You know how these pigeons get; finicky in travel as they are to get the letter on their talons. Before everything- bare with me, I am leading you on- I used to be an interior designer. I found a lot of delight in making homes comfortable, traversable, and welcoming to strangers. I made a lot of mistakes, in the beginning of it. I made atrocious homes; with creaky floorboards and holes for roaches to hide in. Your home does not sound all that different.

--

Those days are behind me. Today, I am a Spearmaiden-for-hire, among other things. Wherever there is mina, and morally sound principles, I’m bound to show. I take advice from Haulen’or’s disciplined Okarir’tir, Celiasil. I take advice from Chi Monks of Siramenor; Jiangu Vancrute, in particular. I take advice from every little conflict I have been led into. I take advice from the injuries of my betters, and the deaths of my lessers. I think, you could take my advice- as a former interior designer,- on where to look first, and as a Spearmaiden, you could take my service to get rid of your pests for you. I am a party of one, but whoever else is soliciting the work – I am certain, – I can cooperate with.

In the meanwhile, try Siramenor. Hotels there are cheap this time of year. I would not want you to eat through your coffers before you hire me.

Thank you,

Gretel L.”

Your offer is most graciously appreciated. I must admit, it is a bit surprising to be receiving an offer of help from a fine group of people who live so far away. I shall keep your offer in mind, and perhaps in due course we might be able to meet to discuss this matter in greater detail at my residence in Owynsburg.

Sincerely,

Amelia Mortimer”

Good afternoon, Miss Aemlia.

See, how this time, I rented a worthwhile pigeon! It was a fourty- I miscounted, thirty eight mina fee to borrow it from a Siramenorian Druid, but I can tell it was very, very likely punctual to the time I mentioned this letter would find you- the afternoon. Let me know, if it got to you at any other time. It will give me a good excuse to ask for refund with interest.

Thank you for having taking the time to read my letter, and opting to take my counsel. Whether it be purely with my architectural insight, or with the hopeful eventuality of my physical labor; I am certain what we discuss will be of use to you. Give me, say- three days, while I make my way to Owynsburg. I will not be long.

Thankfully,

Gretel L.”
