The Haelun’orian Debating Society [HDS]

“through logical debate may we find our path”

Manifesto :

Our purpose is to sharpen the wits and keep keen the mind of the Mali’thill, truly exploring important questions and ideas in their full depth. We hope to encourage debate and discussion upon a broad range of subjects : interpreting the maehr’sae hiylun’ehya, current diplomacy, or simply elementary exercises of the mind such as debates over tea and wine.

Structure :

The Society is led by the Head Chair, whose role is to organise formal and informal debates, ensure everyone keeps to schedule, oversee such debates and delegate out further roles and tasks. Assisting them is the Vice Chair, who is tasked with running the Junior activities such as Model Silver Council and Model Delegates, and is also in charge of promoting orators through the ranks.

The ranks for Juniors consist of Junior Apprentice to Junior Orator.

The ranks for Seniors consist of Senior Apprentice, Senior Orator and Master Orator.

One can advance through the ranks by attending debates ; at each debate, orators can earn up to three points. One point is awarded for attendance, a second for well-done research, a third for persuasive style and skill. At non-debate events, 1 point is still awarded for attendance, 2 for exemplary performance in any area.

An orator is promoted from Apprentice to Orator by gaining 15 points, whilst Master Orator is a title reserved for those who show exceptional skill and a keen interest in the art of debate.

Privileges :

By joining the Society, one can expect to be invited to numerous events such as Model Silver Council and Model Delegates (to debate, if one is a Junior, or to chair if one is a Senior),  formal and informal debates, and awards dinners.

A record in the Society also provides fantastic experience for future possible council work, being good evidence that an individual is skilled in speech, quick-witted, diligent, and able to bring new, intelligent perspectives to the table.

Prerequisites of joining our Society are citizenship in the Silver State, verified purity and basic literacy skills.

Members of the Society are also expected to attend fortnightly meetings, conduct appropriate research to prepare oneself for debates, assist in chairing Junior debates if they are a Senior member, inform the Chairs if they are unable to attend any event and, of course, hold enthusiasm for debating!

There is no formal uniform, however members are greatly encouraged to have a specific formal-wear with a lace collar for Debating Society events.

The Haelun’orian Fencing Association [HFA]

“to strive for physical excellence is the duty of the pure”

Manifesto :

Our purpose is to ensure the upkeep of hiylun within the Mali’thill populace, providing a way to strengthen oneself. We seek to guarantee that every able citizen might defend themself in times of need - after all, when the Silver State is threatened, we all stand for the motherland of Haelun’or. The Association also hopes to act as a passage into the Sillumir, allowing those too young to enroll to still remain active and gain experience and training so that they might transfer smoothly once of age, should they wish to.

Structure :

The Society is led by the Keeper, who is tasked with scheduling practices and tournaments. They may be assisted also by Silan, fencers who hold a black ribbon, who are qualified to teach classes and hold practice sessions.

Within the Association, there is a fortnightly Tournament to place members in ranking order, with the top spot a highly coveted position.

Besides this, however, we also utilise a system of ribbon colours to distinguish between beginners and more experienced fencers.

In ascending order:

White ribbon, orange ribbon, blue ribbon, yellow ribbon, green ribbon, brown ribbon, and black ribbon - given the title of Sil.

Beginners will start with an initial evaluation test to place them at a ribbon, and may move up ribbons based upon performance at both practices and tournaments as evaluated by the Keeper and Silan.

Privileges :

By joining the Society, one can expect to learn new skills and gain the ability to defend oneself. You will also be invited to practices and tournaments, and trusted with your ribbon colour and weekly rank to conduct respect from your peers. You may also be given the privilege of accompanying Sillumiran on missions if one is too young to join, yet proves to be capable of defending themselves.

A history with the Society also brings great experience for later roles, certainly showing an enthusiasm for the art of swordsmanship, dedication and diligence as well as impressively well-kept hiylun. This certainly would catch the eye of Elsillumiran officers for those looking to join when of-age, or perhaps existing Sillumiran interested in rising the ranks.

Requirements :

To enroll in our Association, one is expected to be a pure Mali’thill citizen. Exceptions are granted only on the occasion that one holds a special permit, reviewed stringently by the Keeper.

Members of our Association are expected to attend tournaments and assist in practices when called upon. If unable to attend any event, they are required to inform the Keeper.

Members of our Association are also expected to come to the aid of the Silver State should any threat make itself present.

There is no formal uniform, however members are greatly encouraged to  wear appropriate protective-wear for fencing and, of course, the appropriate colour ribbon for their ranking.

Schedule :

Our schedule runs fortnightly, with events as follows :

Day 6 [Friday I] : Weekly Open Practice [CRP].

Held within the Training Grounds.

Day 8 [Sunday II] : Ranking Tournaments.

Held in the Trade District Open Auditorium.

Day 13 [Friday II] : Weekly Open Practice [PvP].

Held within the Training Grounds.

The Haelun’orian Culinary Circle [HCC]

“a fine life begins with a fine diet, a rejuvenating meal to fuel each task”

Manifesto :

Our purpose is to bring life to Haelun’or’s culinary scene - creating menus each Elven Month for the Silver Tavern, exploring foreign cuisines, evaluating and critiquing tastes in our Monthly Cuisine Review. We hope to provide each of our members with unforgettable tastes and culinary experiences, improving their skills in both critiquing cuisine and creating it.

Structure :

The Society is led by the Epicure, who is tasked with keeping everyone on-schedule and organising events such as cookery classes. They are assisted by the Sous-Chef, who is tasked with putting together the Silver Tavern Menu and may host some cookery classes, and the Arbiter, who puts together the Monthly Cuisine Review.

The Circle is divided into three main ranks - Apprentice, Intermediate and Master.

These may have specialities and focus areas tagged onto the end, such as Critic, Vintner, Rottiseur or Patissier.

One can advance through the ranks by providing particularly wonderful items for the Tavern Menu, attending Cooking Classes or writing particularly good reviews. Three stars are needed to rank up from each rank to the next - a star is given to the top two menu items each month, to the top two reviews each month and half a star is given for each cooking class attended.

Privileges :

By joining the Circle, one can expect to be invited to many exciting trips, able to sample wide varieties of intriguing and delicious delicacies. One would also find themselves surrounded by like-minded individuals of high status, with many opportunities to socialise with the finest food-critics and chefs there are.

Members of the Circle are also granted full access to utilise the Silver Tavern kitchens at any time, so long as they take care of the workspace and clean up after they have finished.

A history in the Culinary Circle also provides a fantastic background for any interested in working in food, a certain mark of expertise in the area. It will also of course be a sign of experience and dedication, proving that an individual is dutiful and a skilled, productive member of Haelun’orian society.

Requirements :

Members of our Culinary Circle must hold a clear interest in the Culinary Arts and be pure Mali’thill Citizens. On some few occasions, exceptions may be made to award honourary membership to Lesser citizens who prove themselves exceptionally talented in the culinary arts.

Members of the Circle are expected to attend events, informing the Epicure if they are unable to attend. They are also required to provide a quote for the Monthly Cuisine Review pamphlet on one piece of exotic cuisine sampled the last Elven Week and one other dish or drink of choice.

Members are also expected to provide one unique menu item for the Silver Tavern each month, allowing the rest of the blessed Citizenry to enjoy the fruits of the Circle’s culinary skills.

There is no formal uniform, however members are greatly encouraged to wear straw hats during club activities and especially outings to signify their membership to others and keep as an organised group.

Schedule :

Our schedule runs each Elven month, with events as follows :

Day 2 [Monday I] : Providing and tasting the Monthly Menu of the Silver Tavern.

Held in the Silver Tavern.

Day 9 [Monday II] : Foreign Excursion to sample and critique exotic cuisines.

To meet at the Silver Tavern before making the trip.
