“A minstrel with a silvered tongue is more dangerous than a soldier with the blade, for they have the ability to change the opinion of man.”

- Taliyu, C. Vailor

It is a truth acknowledged by all that without entertainment, man would have fallen long ago. The word of a bard elicits bravery in soldiers, joy in sailors, and memory of those who have fallen. Without the minstrel’s talent much of history would have been lost or rewritten, battles lost and forgotten, commonfolk discouraged and bored. Art as it is known has been present in all era’s of history, and for that it’s necessity remains true.

The Lenniel Academy of the Arts has been established to ensure that the minstrel’s art does not go on to be forgotten. Unlike many schools, the Academy was not built out of a single nation or people. It is entirely neutral to ongoing conflict or wars, and welcomes all who wish to learn within it’s gilded halls.

Academy’s Law

Having a gaggle of Bards in one place means that trouble is sure to follow. To minimize arson and stabbings, the Lenniel Academy follows a strict code of conduct. Punishments vary depending on the severity of the rule broken, ranging from academic punishment to expulsion. By sending an application in, the applicant automatically agrees to the rules.

1. Do not claim another Minstrel's work.

To do such squanders your own talent, and undermines that of others. By stealing one’s work you dawn the face of another and relinquish the rights to your own achievements. The Academy is not held responsible for what happens if this crime is committed.

2. Do not bring injury to other members of the Academy.

Murder or injury is not to befall other academy members. This rule may be ignored with written permission from the Lenniel OR if rule #1 has been broken.

3. Do not steal from other members of the Academy. Thievery is not encouraged by the Academy, but if it was, members are not to steal from each other.

4. Do not have intimate relations in the Dorm Room.

Do so in private.

5. Do not burn yourself out.

The light of inspiration is fickle. Ensure you tend to it well, lest it leave you permanently.

Schools

The Academy boasts a well-rounded syllabus, with each course open to all enrolled students. Subjects are often referred to as ‘Schools’, similarly to the ways Magic is. Each course is different and has varying levels of knowledge required to graduate to the next student rank. Most courses have sub-categories, which are often taught individually with the student.

Hierarchy

The Academy has a loose structure to ensure that all students, teachers, and alumni have full access to the things they need to practice their art without restriction. As such, any affiliated with the Academy has full rights to a bed, food, and roof over their head at the Academy’s main hall. Ensuring that everything runs smoothly, there is a rough guideline for those who have joined her ranks.

Journeyman Bard

Second Student Tier, in the second-half of their studies and nearing graduation

Trainee Bard

First Student Tier, initiates and those in the first-half of their studies.

For a Trainee Bard to advance to Journeyman, the Bard in question must approach the Lenniel and state their intention. After this they are to schedule a time that the Lenniel and one other Virtuoso may gather, and watch the Student present a showcase of their learned talents. Both the Lenniel AND Virtuoso must agree that the student may pass before the Bard is permitted to officially rise in position.

Events and Competitions

The Lenniel Academy will regularly host competitions and events, both for members of the Academy and those outside of it. Mina, Items, and Bragging Rights will be handed out as reward to the victors of these events at the Lenniel’s discretion. Outsiders are always welcome to visit the Academy, in and out of events.

A certain wandering wood elf would learn of this new academy while sat comfortably near Yong Ping's Tianrui Teahouse, quietly tapping away at a makeshift erhu before him with a set of crude woodworking tools. He pauses his work as he takes a moment to absorb this information. Perhaps there was enough time before the Lunar New Century festivities really kicked off to make a quick visit?

((Yo good luck have fun with this, I'll come interact sometime. Always nice to have a bard get-together!))

A roguish elf with her softly glowing silvery harp grinned, rubbing her hands together.

“This should be fun. Maybe I’ll tag along with this group for a while.”

Roylan G Sirame blinks as he hears of a new school being formed. Intrigued touching his mind he sought out some information about this school of bards and began to learn of it, and the rules it harboured. A frown tickling his expression at what he read as he tilted his head to the side. "Death? Murder? Theft? What happened to simply enjoying the arts, music for what it is...a freeform and bright light to share, and express to all that is welcome too hear and witness it..."

A little regret filled at what he had read he hopes these rules are just a precaution, over something that actually happens among 'bards'.
